BS ComSci(UPM) to PM in Applied Math(UPD): Is it possible?

comsci major po ako sa upm...pero gusto ko pong mag take ng masteral sa upd which is yung pm applied math nila major in actuarial science. but,, just like what ive said, comsci major po ako,and as far as i know, only bs math people are accepted dito. may possibilty po ba na if i finished my undergrad. degree in comsci, matatangap ba ko sa grad. program na gusto ko na pm in applied math???

makikiepal lang ha(d pa kasi ako up student, UPCAT taker palang this yr, pero tagal ko nang nagreresearch about up math tsaka gusto ko rin mag PMAM 4-5 yrs from now kaya medyo may maisasagot ako sayo hehe..)

sabi kasi sa webpage ng PMAM, in order to be accepted in the program, students must have a bachelor's degree and must have taken at least three (3) of the following courses or their equivalent:
Math 114 (Matrices and Applications)
Math 150.1 (Mathematical Statistics I)
Math 162 (Theory of Interest)
Math 164 (Mathematics of Life Contingencies)
Math 171 (Numerical Analysis)

may nahanap akong curriculum ng compsci sa UPM and pwedeng pwede ka naman pala mag PMAM kasi may equivalent/equal courses naman pala:

UPD Math.....................UPM Computer Science
Math 114 Linear Algebra = Math 120 Linear Algebra
Math 150.1 Math Stat I ≈ Stat 130 NP Stat Methods
Math 171 Numerical Analysis = Math 174 Numerical Analysis
Math 162 (elective) = Math 162 (elective din)
Math 164 (elective) = Math 164 (elective din)

I wonder why meron ding 162,164 at 165 sa UPM, hmm..

It all depends on whether you can get an adviser who will take you in as his/her student. Related naman ang BS mo eh.

Baka pakuhanin ka muna nila ng ilang undergraduate courses bago i-accept.

talaga po? so pwede ka pa po pala maadmit sa PMAM kahit you didnt take those prerequisite courses kasi pwede naman itake pa during the PMAM period?

Tama si tubong_batasan. Pwede ka naman makapasok sa PMAM kahit di ka BS Math graduate. Yun nga lang, kelangan mo mag-spend ng 1 or 2 sems para i-take yung mga required courses.

Konti lang naman ang units ng MS/MA, you could finish the coursework in a year/2 sems (incl. the extra units). Ang matagal ay yung thesis work. I know of a handful who took 10 years to finish their MS in UP.

Pero kung BS math ka po, pwede ** bang kahit ndi mo na muna i-take yung 162 at 164? if ever makapasok ako sa BS Math, gusto ko kasi sana ang electives ko 117, 126, 131 at 180.1 kaso malilimitahan nung 162 at 164 kung ipursue ko ang kagustuhan kong maging actuary.. hehe. eh pano na po niyan ang admission, san na nila ibibase ang requirements?

Saka mo na isipin yan kapag pasok ka na. Kapag pasok ka na, mag-consult ka sa professor/adviser, sila magsasabi ano subjects ang dapat mong kunin based on your interests. Yan ang trabaho nila.

d lang ako sure kung may grade requirement din. pero sabi nga ni prof leydee at tubong_batasan, baka magtake-up ka ulit nung mga undegrad subjects na yun bago ka magproceed sa PMAM proper. and isa pa, dahil nasatisfy naman at least 3 dun sa requirements, sapalagay ko kahit hndi ka na magtake nung 162 at 164 pwede na, im not sure lang kung credited yung Stat 130 niyo as Math 150.1, in this case, mag 162 ka pa. hehe. To be sure, makiusap ka na lang sa mga advisers niyo at sa UPD IM din, baka hindi kasi credible ang mga sinabi ko eh.
