JC de Vera and Nadine Samonte relish the company of seasoned co-stars in ‘Valiente’

Since they entered show business at right about the same time in 2003, JC De Vera and Nadine Samonte have received accolades for their acting ability.

But both say they have never felt more fortunate to be in the company of the powerhouse cast of TV5’s extended top-rated teleserye “Valiente”, which includes veteran and mostly award-winning actors such as Jaclyn Jose, Gina Alajar, Mark Gil, Tirso Cruz III and, most recently, Lorna Tolentino.

“Masaya, marami akong natutunan sa kanila,” enthused Nadine who plays the saintly Maila Branganza.

“Iba pala sila behind the scenes. They’re very caring and they put us younger actors at ease as they are not selfish in giving advice on how to act out certain scenes.”

JC agrees. The actor. who plays the heroic but tragically disfigured Gardo Valiente, continues to be regarded as one of the country’s most sought-after leading men after being dubbed as Drama Prince by his former network.

While he confessed to being nervous doing scenes with no less than Lorna Tolentino on her first taping day, he said he is particularly close to Michael de Mesa, who played Gardo in the original “Valiente.”

“He has sort of taken me under his wing,” JC revealed. “He gave me some advice on how to attack the role since he is already familiar with it. And he has been coaching me a lot when it comes to this character. Inaalalayan talaga niya ako dito.”

Has he ever asked Michael if he has done a good job playing Gardo?

“Nahiya akong magtanong sa kanya,” JC sheepishly admitted. “But I believe I have given justice to the role and since he hasn’t said anything, I’d like to think that he’s very much okay with how I’m doing so far.”

The two, however, reserved their best compliments for co-star Oyo Boy Sotto, who plays Theo Braganza, Gardo’s best friend and Maila’s brother in the series. JC said he has no problem sharing the limelight with his more experienced co-star.

“Oyo is the most professional of all,” JC declared. “He comes to the set always prepared, always doing his homework. Ang galing niyang mag-memorize ng lines niya.”

JC is likewise all praises for his working relationship with Oyo. “We have also come up with a good way to work. Inaalayan din niya ako pero pagdating sa action scenes, sasabihin niya sa kin, ‘Ikaw na bahala diyan’ so ako naman ang umaalalay sa kanya.”

Nadine, on the other hand, said Oyo, who used to be her real-life boyfriend, has not changed through the years. “Other than the fact that he’s now married, okay pa rin siyang katrabaho. Pareho kaming tutok sa work namin here.”

The “Starstruck” alum added that it feels good to play a non-kontrabida role again after playing antagonist roles in several teleseryes, most recently in TV5’s “Sa Ngalan Ng Ina” where she made life difficult for Nora Aunor’s lead character.

“Mahirap maging kontrabida pero mas challenging gawin,” Nadine pointed out. “Buti naman, hindi rin nagagalit sa kin ang mga tao sa totoong buhay unlike other actresses who play these kinds of roles.”

JC, for his part, admitted that he was surprised when he was asked to do the lead role for “Valiente.” He was offered the part when he was taking a vacation after finishing the remake of “Babangon Ako’t Dudurugin Kita” opposite Yasmien Kurdi.

“When I found out our director is Joel Lamangan, I immediately said yes,” he fondly recalled. “Maganda ang rapport namin ni Direk Joel kaya naman favorite ko ‘yan.”

BANGGAANG LORNA AT JACLYN,KAABANG-ABANG SA VALIENTE

KAABANG-ABANG at kapana-panabik ang tunggaliang magaganap sa dalawang premyadong aktres sa bansa na sina Lorna Tolentino at Jaclyn Jose—sa pinag-uusapan, kinagigiliwang classic drama series ng taon, ang Valiente sa TV5.

Hindi na solo ni Jaclyn bilang mapang-api at malupit na si Donya Trining Braganza ang pagre-reyna sa aktingan dahil papasok na ang tataob sa kanya na si Lorna ngayong extended ang serye hanggang June 29. Siya si Mila Regalado-Arden, istriktang COO at Acquisitions Director ng Crimson Estates at nakababatang kapatid ni Don Luis Regalado (Tirso Cruz III).

Sa unang araw ng taping ni Lorna, agad siyang isinabak sa maiigting at madadramang eksena na mararamdaman ang kanyang poot kay Gardo Valiente/Nicolas Vallejo. Subalit sa likod ng kanyang matatalim na salita at pusong-bato, mababakas ang lungkot sa kanyang mata. Gusto niyang hanapin at punuan ang pagkukulang niya sa kanyang nawawalang anak.

Hindi nga lang nakatanggi ang grand slam best actress nang sabihan siya ni Direk Joel Lamangan na sampalin si Jaclyn na napapanood sa TV plug ng Valiente.

“Gusto ko sanang tanggihan ang request ni Direk Joel. Puwede naman kasing dayain. Pero wala akong magawa. Sinampal ko si Jaclyn,” rason ni LT.

Eh hindi naman nagpatalbog si Jaclyn, ginantihan din niya ng malutong na sampal si LT, huh!

Of course, patikim pa lang ang sampalan nina LT at Jaclyn sa series na mapapanood next week. Siyempre pa, hindi paliligtasin ni Direk Joel ang husay ng dalawa sa acting at batuhan ng matatalas na salita. After all, hindi sila magiging best actress for nothing, huh!

Sa simula pa lang ng bagong bersiyon ng Valiente, agad itong pumukaw ng pansin sa manonood. Bukod sa pagiging glossy nito, walang tapon ang acting ng buong cast mula sa veteran at young actors—Michael de Mesa, Jaclyn, Gina Alajar, Oyo Sotto, JC de Vera, Nadine Samonte, Nina Jose, John Regala at iba pa. Maging ang dating adik sa Valiente na unang ipinrodyus ng TAPE Inc.,giliw na giliw sa makabagong kuwento ng series.

Hindi lang ang tunggalin, sabunutan, pasiklaban, at batuhan ng malulutong na dialogue nina LT at Jaclyn ang pasabog ng Valiente kundi ang marubdob na kuwento ng paghihiganti at pagmamahalan sa mga susunod na gabi.

Mapapanood ang Valiente mula Lunes hanggang Biyernes sa Kapatid Network pagkatapos ng Wil Time BigTime.
