Why are there no shrink in the Philippines?

Bat short tayo sa mnga ganoong professionals. Andami kasing mga psychologically-damaged sa Pilipinas, sa sobrang shortage lahat bumabagsak sa mga religious counseling. Sa tingin niyo bakit?

Actually there are plenty of psychiatrists in our country just check NCMH, Veterans or any tertiary hospital for that matter. The problem in the Philippines is not the number of psychiatrists but the stigma attached to patients seeking their help thus few Filipinos are actually willing to see one.

In the Philippines people who go to see psychiatrists are automatically labelled "baliw". Unlike in western countries were you can see a "shrink" just to vent out or have someone to talk to or even consult with regarding your mental health without anyone judging you.

Filipinos use the word "baliw" too generally. When a person is depressed... baliw, bipolar... baliw, personality disorder... baliw, eating disorder... baliw, basic counseling... may deperensya agad sa pagiisip...

im talking about shrinks that are psychologists, not psychiatrist. psychiatry has to do with really extreme mental problems. while psychologist deals with psychological disorders. you know, the kind that engages in talk therapy or psychoanalysis or hypnotherapists. not some doctor who interview you for an hour and then prescribe you drugs. it just doesnt exist in the country. or may be it exists but you can only count it with 1 hand.
