Post 10 most cynically milked franchises...

If at first you succeed, churn them out until long after everyone is sick of it...

You can't really blame the games industry for wanting to cash in every year with a new version of its latest successful, proven, low-risk franchise, can you?

Of course you can! If you're a gaming purist - sustaining a successful franchise, particularly if the publisher feels it needs to be updated every year, has got to be a cynical exercise in sacrificing quality for profit.

Although there have been rare examples of franchises that haven't become appreciably crappier as they have progressed. But surely the following have been milked to death?

    1. Call of Duty
    2. Final Fantasy
    3. Mario
    4. Resident Evil
    5. EA Sports Game (FIFA,NBA,Tiger Woods, Madden)
    6. Leisure Suit Larry
    7. Street Fighter
    8. Tomb Raider
    9. Pokemon
    10. Football Manager

Mario games made are pretty solid (in terms of Mario platformers).

Need for Speed series and Mega Man series. Talk about milking the cash cow.

Granting for the sake of the argument that they didn't milked the franchise at the first place.. What do you think will happen to the gaming industry?.. It will fall down because like hell. There's no fascinating games coming out, plus, milking a franchise is not a bad thing though, Publishers and developers will never back-off just to give way to the haters, to not release their milked-games every year...
In my opinion, milking a franchise is a good thing than to release a mediocre new IPs..

You know one thing that keeps me wondering these 7th generation of gaming is that, many gamers around the world, especially in USA are becoming whiners and I really really don't understand why are they complaining about it?. If they find a game/s so overrated and milked by it's creator then one thing is the solution... DON'T BUY THE GAME.

The funny thing is, they keep on spreading this issue just to detract the game companies.. How awful.

Mario franchise has so many games through the decades. The good thing is that many of those games proved to be good and acclaimed.

    the sims ..bakit hindi kasali..hehehe

if you're still playing the game in the franchise.

    then why bash?

    i agree with hitman.

gamers now a days only like to whine.

there are so many titles out there.

don't buy the game if you don't think its worth it.

they have the rights to complain! because game industry are so F*CKED UP now. imagine you buy $60 (incomplete game)

    1.sport games like nba,madden
2.Call Of Duty Series (for sure after black ops. modern warfare 4 naman) until no one buying it like Guitar Heroes.

  11. #11
    then don't buy the game.

    if they screwed you once.

chance are they'll screw you again.

i don't remember ffxiii-2 having dlc content na kailangan mo para matapos

    yung laro.

asa sayo na lang kung bibilhin mo o hindi.

and gamers now a days got it easy.

    try unlocking those costumes.

    malamang tatamarin na lang sila.

The reason why they keep on running this business is because, they really want to earn money, they're milking their blockbuster IPs to earn millions of dollars.. They have employees (Developers, Computer programmers, Accountants, Executives, Utility personnel, etc. etc) especially if they run a multi-national company like Sony Computer Entertainment, Ubisoft, Capcom, Activision, Microsoft, Nintendo etc.. You have thousands of personnel that you should pay and give a benefits...

Establishing a company is not like a non-profit organization. You'll have to choose the right decision for the sake of the company, and one great decision is to milk your favorite franchise or games. They can't risk releasing new IPs not even knowing it's fate if will fail or succeed. We'll true sometimes, when they released a new games, some of them succeeded and unfortunately, majority of them are failed..

So I guess, it is a great decision for the company to keep on releasing well known games every year for the company to survive, like these days economy's status especially in USA is not good, and the video game industry is affected.. Publishers and Console manufacturers are choosing a more effective decision in releasing their famous titles to gain profit.. Or else they will fall down. Next thing you'll know they'd file a CHAPTER 11 Bankruptcy, I don't want that to happen and of course some of you here too.

    @Cole
I agree about what you've said about fvcked up status of current generation of gaming.. But I guess DLC issue is not pertinent in this topic. Well it's a different story my friend.

parang BF3 & ME3, day 1 palang DLC na pinaguusapan,

  14. #14
Nothing wrong with this as long as they bring something new to the game each time. Otherwise it's gonna backfire sooner or later...

Final Fantasy is not a milked franchise. Every main installments are different games. They have different stories, different characters, different goal, different gameplay system, and are set in different universe with different myths. God of War is a great example of a milked franchise. It follows the same character in the same world using the same gameplay system.

its like Gears of war series, the stories are all connected.

    ito for me

    1.Sports games like madden,nba series
    2.Call of duty Series

but now nag focus yata mga developers sa incomplete game & DLC later

Which is why Final Fantasy is not a milked franchise. All the numbered titles are totally different games.

And yes, I have played God of War and the reason why I say it's milked is how there's been many games released this gen. And now, we have another one coming. I'm sick of the franchise. They should give Heavenly Sword a sequel instead.

    Thumbs down

like EA & Actiblizz they release AAA title games(BF3,ME3,COD series) with $60 price tag then titirahin ka nila later on sa DLC, kung itotal mo lahat yung binili mo aabot $75 to $110 dollar yung isang title lang ng game ha, you see how greedy this publishers nowadays?

I liked the earlier Tomb Raider games. Hoping the new one is better than the rest.
