I've just moved to my new house, and have been DIYing many things due to budgetary constraints.

Here's my recent project. Finished it this morning, before going to work.

    CHBs, 4in, assorted -- Free
    Soil, 10 pails -- Free

    White Angel, 4 pots -- PHP40 ea
    Topeia, 8 pots -- PHP5 ea (small)
Forget Me Not, 6 pots -- PHP20 ea (small)
San Francisco, 2 pots -- PHP50 ea (medium)

Hopefully, these plants would thrive and in a few weeks time, less soil would be visible. The variety and layering with the different leaf shapes/textures and flowers would then be visible as well.

I am still trying to scavenge rocks from around the village which would be suitable for landscaping. The facade only has 1 for now. I've seen lots of them along Governor's Drive. I am not sure if I would be allowed to get them though. These rocks when sold in gardens would cost PHP100 to PHP1,000 each.

The round Pokyante still needs its pedestal out of old kawali and some landscape rocks.

The two Eugenias at the side will be trained to be spiral in shape in a year.

    Neo,
Panalo to! Saan ka natuto ng mga ganitong skills?! Always wanted to do something like this, but never had the artistic inclination to even conceptualize a design. Good job!

    Thanks, bro.

First, I checked the materials I have on hand and materials I could scavenged around the village para bawas gastos.

Then I checked for full sun variety plants.

I also checked for different textures and shapes of leaves, at kung gano sila kataas pag lumalago, at kung paano ba ang paglago, lateral ba o vertical. At kung ano ang magiging hitsura ng kabuuan kapag malago na in a few months.

Tapos ang color variety din. Although ok lang din naman ang mga halaman na walang bulaklak but with different textures and shapes, mas ok kung may iba't ibang kulay at shape ng bulaklak.

Kelangan iyong mga hindi din alagaing halaman. Low maintenance variety. Maski walang insecticide or fertilizer.

At ang pinakaimportante sa lahat. Dapat pasok sa budget.

I'm gonna edit my facade next week, to add more color. Will be adding creeper peanut plant with yellow flowers, dun sa harap ng hollow blocks.

Hindi maganda ang bahay kubo ko. Swak lang.

Sa Rey Marketing Pasig. Sinabay ko when I bought the tiles for the whole house. At the time di ko alam kung saan ko gagamitin. Nakita ko lang na mura. I also bought other cheap stones and pebbles.

Dunno kung meron sa lahat ng branches.

Yung Bohol stones, iregular ang shape at diifferent sizes. At di masyadong maputi.

Sulit! Maganda lumabas ng idea nyo po.

Ayos.

So the garden suggested via trike na lang. At sobra pa sa facade and courtyard. Yung mga horse tails and another shaped pokyante, di ko pa nailalabas.

MY MINI-COURTYARD WITH PATHWAY AND PLANT BED

Here's a glimpse of my Oakwood B house renovation. My courtyard with my DIY courtyard-rock garden-on-a-budget. With a glimpse of my kiddie pool-laundry area-homemade jacuzzi, removable metal stand for my herb garden, wash area-backyard sink, carport, gate.

    BEFORE:

    AFTER:

63 pieces Dubricon Red Rectangle concrete pavers at PHP11.92 each = PHP750.96

inexpensive Gray and Bohol riverstones from Rey Marketing = PHP300

    leftover when I renovated my Nanay's garden-grotto
    5 sacks of G1 gravel
    4 sacks of sand

8 sacks of soil from the nearby street from the balcony footing excavations.

The stones and gravel were placed to be on the same surface level with the concrete pavers so that any part of the courtyard surface can be stepped on, and not just the red stepping blocks. The river stones surrounding the pavers may look slippery and loose, but they are actually locked in place by the pavers and the G1 gravel.

Nothing is fixed, so everything could be changed or moved around anytime. I might decide to replace the gravel and river stones with Frog grass in the future.

It took me about 4 hours to do this courtyard.

This courtyard that absorbs water during the rains and while doing laundry would also help in making the house less hotter. Had this space been concrete paved as well, it would be hot even in the evening, as concrete radiates heat. The open courtyard also lets in natural light and ventilation. Sunlight is a natural disinfectant.

And those are the main reasons for having this courtyard, incorporating the benefits that I could get from nature.

Actually, my original design was for a Koi pond but I realized it may be expensive and high maintenance and may be tempting for other pets/animals. And Koi pond would only serve 1 purpose. I am a sucker for multipurpose items/areas.

Basically it's my enclosed laundry area. However, I found some Mariwasa bargain tiles that were used by a real estate developer in swimming pools. So it became a kiddie pool (cheaper than those inflatables in the long run). It is also equipped with showers and fountains/water shooters on two sides. So pwede na syang home-made jacuzzi.

    Here:

The guys didn't bother to remove the hose they've used in watering the plants.
