OPOL, Misamis Oriental – On February 10, 2011, security guards of A. Brown Company, Inc. pointed their guns at Gilbert Paborada, a leader of the local indigenous peoples group Pangalasag. One of the guards threatened Paborada that he would be shot if he and his fellow tribesmen do not leave the land.

though I'm not sure yet if A Brown company "LEGALLY" purchased the land,

and I'd like to ask how many "percent" the foreign company is at fault. Considering the fact that foreigners only get 40% of the company and a pinoy counterpart gets 60%

the article leaves a lot of info out though. such as the land ownership and history of sale/lease

Sounds like a foreign company does not always equal a foreign company...

A Brown Company Inc. was originally incorporated on December 21, 1966 as Bendaña, Brown, Pizarro & Associates, Inc. and later renamed to Epic Holdings Corporation on October 1, 1992. The company name A Brown Company, Inc. (ABCI) came to be after a year when Epic Holdings Corporation, the surviving entity in the merger with Brown Chemical Corporation and Brown Chemical Sales Corporation, changed its name in July 1, 1993.

A publicly listed company in the Philippine Stock Exchange since 1994 (code: BRN), ABCI serves as the holding company of the Brown Group of Companies. ABCI is primarily engaged in the business of real estate development (high-end, middle-market to socialized), and in oil palm plantation development and milling. ABCI is also starting to venture into the utilities sector particularly in renewable energy and power, and water.

The company's prime real estate development property is the Xavier Estates located in Cagayan de Oro City. It is Mindanao's most successful Class A residential subdivision. Xavier Estates follows the concept of a mixed-use, nature-themed, well-planned integrated community. ABCI’s other real estate projects at various stages are in Cainta and Tanay in Rizal, Valencia City in Bukidnon, Butuan City in Agusan, and another subdivision development in Cagayan de Oro City.

The company has major interests in other businesses, as represented by its list of subsidiaries and major investments:

    • A Brown Energy and Resources Development, Inc., a 99.99% owned subsidiary of ABCI, is engaged in the trade of crude palm oil, and the sale of aggregates, palm seedlings and water services.

    • Another subsidiary, Brown Resources Corporation, owns and operates hotels, apartments and restaurants, and also engages in other real estate activities.

    • ABCI also has interests in the energy sector through its investments in Monte Oro Resources and Energy Inc. (MORE). MORE’s wholly owned subsidiary, Monte Oro Grid Resources Corporation (MOGRC), together with two other investors, took over the operation of the country’s power transmission network in January 2009 and sold its investments in March 2010.
