    Blessed are the poor...

    http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx...bCategoryId=63

Poverty is increasing in our beloved land. Some 55% of Filipinos now rate themselves as "poor". "Food poor", or inability to feed sufficiently, thus one of the worst categories of poverty, now affect 45% of us.
    ____________________

MANILA, Philippines - The number of Filipino families who consider themselves poor grew by two million in the last three months, a survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) revealed.

The poll, conducted from March 10 to 13, found 55 percent of the respondents (about 11.1 million families) claiming to be “mahirap” or poor, 10 points higher than the 45 percent or 9.1 million households registered in December last year.

The SWS said the number of families claiming to be “food-poor” also increased by nine points from 36 percent or an estimated 7.2 million in December to 45 percent or an estimated 9.1 million families in March.

Ok lang. They will inherit the kingdom of God naman e. I wonder why a Christian country like the Philippines is trying to fight poverty and hunger. Other christians of whatever denomination do too.. they still spend their waking lives accumulating money and indulging in food and striving for happiness, even if they know and believe fully well that THE POOR WILL INHERIT THE KINGDOM and those who HUNGER AND WEEP will be rewarded accordingly.

The world is full of hypocrites.

    Luke 6:20
And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed are ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

There are always two sides of a story. A lot of times more than two.

I think these surveys overstate and understate the results for the most part (purposely or otherwise) thus giving an inaccurate picture of the situation.

For me, the real poor are those deprived of the basic needs for so many reasons and yet exert effort to change their lives. They're the ones who despite their inadequacy find reasons to live and be an inspiration to others. They're the ones who deserved to be called blessed.

    Ei tonton!

Poverty is an economic component that is why every government exerts effort to manage it.

I don't see any bad reason to accumulate money or wealth for the right purpose. It's a way to maximize and be responsible of the resources God has provided.

The term "poor" nowadays has vast meanings.

But if the poor escape poverty, they won't inherit God's kingdom anymore! If I were a bible believer I'd choose to remain poor!

"Poor" in spirit is extremely different from poor in material goods.

When Mary Magdalene lavished perfume to wash the feet of Jesus, Judas was materially concerned and offered to sell the expensive perfume to give cash to poor people instead.

Judas' heart is worldly and materialistic. He eventually sold his Master for 30 pieces of silver. Yet he appears to tend to the poor.

The POOR in spirit in contrast means to be empty of personal biases. Giving up everything to buy that field is not only the lesson of gospel parables; TRUTH is unless we die in our ideas of what ought to be, we cannot be filled with the divinity of Christ where we become like sheep following the faithful shepherd.

God's Kingdom is the Body of Christ on Earth where the God-Head is in Heaven since what Christians are supposed to follow is the Will of God and not their own, often conflicting and contradictory non-divine and purely individual will. Christ is about aligning our hearts and minds to the thought of Jesus who did the Will of the Father to the point of passion and death on the cross.

Hehe... I expected to see flowery words again to explain things away. Poor doesn't really mean poor. Poor means everything else except being 'money' poor.

    Matthew 6

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Close your savings accounts already and give them to the poor.

.. and God wants ALL, not just a portion.

    Luke 21

1 And he looked up, and saw the rich men that were casting their gifts into the treasury.

2 And he saw a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, This poor widow cast in more than they all:

4 for all these did of their superfluity cast in unto the gifts; but she of her want did cast in all the living that she had.

But Jeeezas reassures us all, but nobody really cares. Wrack up the money!

Matt 6:26 Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they?

No need to worry about cash. God will feed you like he does birds!!

I have similar concern as Tonton's. The blessed "poor" is not really our ragged poor. It is something else mystically esoteric so hifalutin that can only be understood through some divinely inspired hermeneutic exegesis of the term, is it not?

If so, our impoverished but hopeful masses, "pooritas" in street lingo, are deluded. They thought they are special for their poorness. They better think again. If they don't have the metaphorical perfume to poor on the feet of religion, then they are nothing.

In our modern age, the socialists are the ones creating a world void of God based on a purely materialistic approach of humanity that ignores the SPIRITUAL. They are your Judas, who will sell to gain power and control in the guise of helping people in need since what they are doing is crafting a kingdom for them to RULE instead.

Meanwhile, Jesus reveals the Good News of the Kingdom of God and wants the faithful to seek it first and all the things we consider important would be added on to us when that Kingdom comes.

If God so loved the poor, what would he feel for guys like this one featured above with his 30 most expensive cars stored in subterranean garage with elevators? He got a total of 400 cars, so he can only drive a car one day each year. But he is poor in spirit.

You confess too that you suffer from the same poverty of spirit since you seem to get TRAPPED on the same material plane or realm. The difference is the car collector wallows in pride while you are pained by jealousy since you cannot afford the luxury. He got wealth and how you wish you had money.

If you only understand the Gospels, then you cannot have the taste for materialism. In fact, the early Christians discovered dignity and real wealth by remaining simple and sincere. The deprived were able to surmount their conditions and progress in the spiritual gifts which they purchased by sacrifices; Genuine Christians are free from hate and jealousy and devote their work and time to the service of God by serving one another in Christ instead.

    i don't think Ateo's spirit is poor.

just by reading his posts here in RoT, one can learn that this guy is formidable.

The one with a poor spirit is the one who cant recognize and discern the person behind the words written here.
