On being a fake scholar

financial aid grantee kasi ako.. 100TF. incoming freshie

Middle income lang family ko. kahit papaano okay ang living standards namen. yun nga lang, "mahihirapan" kaming iafford (which is quite different sa "di talaga afford") yung tuition plus yung allowance ko pa kaya nga nag-apply kami for financial aid. Kaya good thing nalang at nakapasa

Yun nga lang, natatakot ako. May mga nakakausap kasi ako na reliable sources/ateneans na nagsasabing ang mga kakilala nila daw na financial aid grantees e yung mga tipong wala laptop (pero kung meron man, e yung sobrang pinag-ipunan talaga nila yun) and the like. May mga part-time job din daw. Kumbaga, although scholar ako, mas nakakaangat ako onte compared dun nga sa mga kakilala nila (i just don't know about the rest of the scholars though)

Kaya ayun, takot ako. Kasi ako we have a laptop and deskptop at home and naafford naman ng family ko yung ibang neccessities. May sasakyan din kami, although yung simple lang. Afford din namen tuition sa UP (yung 20k/sem). Pero of course, I chose Ateneo parin And I'm glad na nakuha ko nga yung grant kasi nga di kami ganun kawell-off

Takot lang ako kasi baka sabihin ng mga tao e fake scholar ako. e uso pa naman yun, yung fake scholar thing.. yung tipong iisipin nila ba't meron pamilya ko ng ganun...

Hopefully naman, di lang ako yung ganto, right?

Also, ano ba mga living conditions nung "usual" scholars sa campus?

Don't worry. I was a scholar in Ateneo and I had my own car, sometimes with a driver, a laptop, etc. My family is middle/upper-middle class.

The key is grades/QPI. As long as you get high grades and maintain the QPI requirements, you're okay.

Same situation kami ni TS, incoming freshman and a 100TFDA grantee ako... Sobrang swerte ko nga halos wala nako babayaran during my stay e Talagang kailangan ko naman yung assistance kahit UP yata di ako makakapagenrol kung walang financial assistance e :P baka magtaka lang sila niregaluhan kasi ako ng laptop ng tita ko natatakot ako baka bawiin hehehehe

once you're in school di na naman magma-matter kung scholar ka or not. wala naman tayo sa UP na may brackets pa.

I also wouldn't be surprised if other scholars (no pun intended) might question my identity.. baka sabihin nila fake ITR namen, etc.

mag aral ka na lang mabuti, ganun naman talaga totoong meaning ng pagiging scholar di ba? yun matataas ang grades at deserving at hindi dahil gusgusin at maralita?

ok lang yan... even middle class families will have difficulty sending their kids to ateneo, and naiintindihan yun ng ateneo, so maraming scholars ang tulad mo na may kaya naman sa buhay, di lang talaga kaya ang tuition sa ateneo... actually, hatid sundo ako ng driver nung freshman year ko sa ateneo, but nobody really questioned my being a scholar...

Okay lang 'yan TS. Sure, I've known people who are legit "fake scholars." As in, pati kaming hindi scholars, naasar kasi talagang hindi niya kailangan yung scholarship. As in, we really have no idea kung paano siya na-consider for financial aid. LSGH ba naman nag-aral tapos sa Dasmarinas Village nakatira. Bago pa yung kotse na ginagamit araw-araw. Bago pa lagi cellphone, iPod, and laptop niya lagi. Mamahalin pa damit niya.

i don't think magkakaproblem ka dito. financial aid scholar din ako dati. at sa pagkakaalala ko, may form naman yan na isusubmit every year to assess yung financial status ng family ng student. at if ever may significant change man financially, pwedeng mabago yung grant ng student. so don't be afraid. basta totoo naman yung lahat ng pinasa mo sa OAA, no worries. inaapprove nila yan for a reason.

Hi, ask ko lang, mayroon bang financial aids/scholarships for Ateneo Med students? Baka po mayroon sa inyong alam kung anu-ano ang requirements for applying to these. I'm planning to pursue med sa ASMPH. Thanks in advance sa mga sasagot.

naalala ko tuloy iyong classmate ko nung high school. he was a tulong dunong scholar all the way but his clothes closet was always stacked and his shoe collection was vast much to our envy ( bata pa kami tapos wala pa kami uniform nun sa ateneo high kaya ganun ). reason being was because his sister worked in japan and she provided him w/ brand name clothes and sneakers galore

he became a scholar in college too but too bad though he didn't make the required grade to maintain his scholarship in college (katititing lang ata ang puntos na kinapos niya). after that unfortunate academic mishap of his, we just sort of drifted away and now nobody in our high school class know where he is.
