There are several players who could have performed way beyond expectations had they continued to play and train hard. For every Alvin Patrimonio or Robert Jaworski or Jojo Lastimosa who are peerless when it comes to discipline, there will always be the likes of Vergel Meneses or Bong Alvarez or Marlou Aquino underperforming and lacking in discipline to go beyond his potential.

dalhin mo lang sa FT si taulava, nahinto mo na siya

i think it will be a prime eric menk. of course past his prime na si cap nung 1999, pero eric menk was a beast that time, inside and outside.

If you have a copy of the PBA's First 25 coffee table book that features the Top 25 players, you'll see that a lot of PBA legends took digs at Meneses' lack of conditioning. I can't remember who it was but someone said that Meneses could have been one of the very best if he had the discipline to train harder and play as point guard.

I think it was Ron Jacobs who said that Vergel was the one best offensive player that he has seen in the PBA. Definitely, this guy can take any shot. Name it, post up, fade away, off the glass jumpshots, 3 points, slashing to the basket, and he can also act as a PG with his passing ability. I would put him in the same category as Benjie Paras who also would've had a better career if they only worked harder.

I'd pick Eric Menk, Ramon Fernandez, Danny Seigle

I like Paras' playing style though. He was the first renaissance center (i.e. a center who was as effective outside as he was inside) who had an NBA-esque flair for showmanship. And yes, I would have picked Paras as well since he's my favorite player of all time
As per sheer talent and athletic ability, I'd pick also Paras. I think this was discussed already here before. The Tower of Power was a freak of nature. But Alvin was the more dedicated one, the more hardworking one. When Paras was focused, he was more unstoppable than Alvin. But of course, if you'd pick a player you'd also equate the attitude towards the game. That's Alvin's advantage.

Alvin Patrimonio also got a lot of calls to his favor while Paras got a lot of calls that went against him. #bitterparin

Iba talaga ang '99 season, it's like nainvade ang PBA ng mga imports

Back to topic, malamang sasagot ko Taulava, Seigle, at Menk

The problem kay Seigle at Menk were injuries, Taulava naman old age na din pumasok siya then in his peak years he had citizenship issues

Pero ang stats nitong 3, hindi ko nakikita sa mga fil-ams ngayon

so you have to think did '99 season raised the bar sa pba in terms of talent, or magagaling lang talaga itong tatlong ito

A prime Menk especially nung MVP year nya.

i think Menk & Paras would be a deathmatch against him, body for body, it's an all or nothing match-up. Hence, D.Seigle is good but i don't think he has a body that can banged up against those 3 guys, since if it comes down to taking a shot in the paint, D. Seigle would be the one fading away than those 3.

Just curious, is Alvin Patrimonio the GOAT of Philippine basketball?

Most people say either Jaworski or Fernandez.

Patrimonio is often referred as the greatest Power Forward in PBA history.

  17. #57
He's at least, a Top 3, alongside Fernandez and Jaworski or Jaworski and Fernandez.

The other two in the Top 5 of all time would probably be William Adornado and Benjie Paras.

Mr. JPM, would you agree that The Captain is the Greatest Power Forward in PBA history?
