I hope you're not misinterpreting my messages; I don't intent to hate on what you're planning to do. I think the Philippines needs more entrepreneurs like yourself. I guess I'd just like to point out that there's a chance that you won't be able to attract serious, consistent writers if you don't commit on compensating them in one form or another.
If you rely on volunteer work, you will have to deal with very amateur writers who might not be able to write articles that are worth reading. Or worse, you might find yourself dealing with writers who consistently miss deadlines or suddenly just decide to quit. Wala kasing commitment diba, volunteer work lang.
And this is especially considering that people know you're going to grow this effort into a revenue generating entity. How do you think writers would feel if they know that the articles they're writing for free would make money for the website's founders in the long term?
It doesn't need to be financial, and it doesn't need to be big. You're still starting out so it's understandable that you can't give out cash. But you can compensate in other ways, like treating your freelancers to dinner, handing out tokens and t-shirts, or even promising stock options, profit sharing, or management positions for the very first batch of writers.
Your first batch of writers will be the very people who will determine your company's future, so do treat them with respect and value your business relationships with them.
Anyway, I'm just posting some tips I have personally learned along the way. At the end of the day, it's really up to you if you want to try them out. Thanks for reading my posts. Good luck!
