James Yap's place in PBA history

James Yap has won two MVP awards. That already puts him in elite territory in terms of the very exclusive group of people who have won multiple times.

How would/should history look at James Yap's career against the other greats?

If Yap were to retire at the end of the season, is his body of work already better than any of these SF/SGs?

    Vergel Meneses
    Jojo Lastimosa
    Ato Agustin
    Samboy Lim
    Allan Caidic

Looking at the past award winners, shooters rarely get recognized as MVPs. It is only recently that shorter players have won the MVP award with regularity.

He'll definitely be up there. You have a rare combination of accomplishment and popularity that Yap has in his possession. Yap is arguably the most popular player of his generation, with perhaps only Mark Caguioa crowding him for this title. He has two MVP titles, one of only 8 players to accomplish this feat.

Robert Jaworski, Sr. only won one MVP title in 1978 but he's in the elite crop simply because he was the face of the PBA. Yap definitely's up there with the rest of them. If he succeeds in winning another MVP title and tie William Adornado with three titles, then he'll probably be in the Top 5 all-time alongside Jaworski, Fernandez, Patrimonio and Adornado.

James Yap will be remembered for his BIG GAMES in all his Finals appearances with Purefoods/B-MEG.

He never fails to perform well when it comes to the Finals. He may struggle and be at his worst during the eliminations, but whenever his team reaches the Finals, expect him to play like a true MVP.

At syempre, ang infamous na 'sipa sabay takbo' move ni James kay Terrence Leather. Laugh trip talaga 'yun.

I think he has already passed Samboy, Ato (this pains me since I am a HUGE fan of these guys), Jojo and even Vergel. Im not sure about Allan since I still think Allan is the better shooter and more clutch. Although James beats Allan in terms of MVPs and longevity.

BTW, how many titles has James won?

More clutch? It's james over Caidic. Ilang taon ko rin pinanood si Allan sa Presto, streak shooter talaga. Pero hindi mali ang monicker na Big Game for James.

magaling naman si Ilong eh. if he didnt marry Kris Aquino, i think he would even be more revered today

after Jawo, Fernandez and Patrimonio, Yap has been the face of the league, like it or not.

    Two Philippine Cup titles.

He is the face of the PBA, together with Caguioa, for at least 9 years now. His combination of popularity, longevity, skill and both individual and team success will be hard to match.

Yung performance ni James ngayon e' somehow reminds me of his comeback performance (after suspension) nung game 6 AFC Finals against the defunct Sta.Lucia.

30pts performance din sya dun. 20 of those came from the 4th QTR!

BIG GAME JAMES talaga! Saktong sakto!

Ang moody lang ng paghanga ko kay Jems. minsan ang tingin ko sa kanya is sobrang bagal at napaka tamad. Pero when he's on fire, maybe asa top 10 siya.
