working from home vs office..alin mas gusto niyo?

not sure if there's a thread like this but did search the thread but I did not see any similar result puro advertisement lang. If there is pls. just merge. thanks

JUst want to ask your opinion bout working from home vs office. Just got an offer to work from home full time but I am currently working in an office. I find it hard to decide since I just got transferred to a JAVA project(I am .net) which I really like to acquire as additional skill. If you were me would you pass or take the offer?

    more details:
Current employment vs Work from home
NEt take home pay - P100 vs P103
Benefits: SSS,PagIbig, Philhealth, HMO (no deopendents) vs none
Travel time: 3-4 hrs vs 0 hrs
    Travel expense: 2.5k-3.5k/mo vs 0
    Status: Regular vs. COntractual
    Tech: JAva vs .net
Working hrs: 9hrs vs 8 hrs
    Working time: Flexi vs 7am-4pm
    Social life: so-so vs zero
Other expenses: decent clothes, snack /eat with friends sometimes vs electricity, upgrade DSL connection(i have basic plan 1Mbps) and upgrade pc specs.
Main adv: I am being trained as JAva dev which will gain me more skill thus I can demand higher pay in time VS. I can stay at home 24/7 esp I have a newborn (to attend to monster yaya if ever)

Can u site any other benefit/factor I should consider in choosing between the two? thanks.

It might be hard to believe but it takes more discipline and effort to work from home.

    * You need to give extra effort to get yourself to work instead of lounging around, sleeping, or what not. You may be at home but you will need to focus 100 percent of your attention on your work.

    * You need to give extra effort to define the boundaries of when work ends and rest begins. I work from home sometimes and often find myself working for 9 to 10 hours because I know that I can go to bed easily and anytime. This is especially true if you have deadlines looming close. It's actually hard to shut down the computer completely at the 8-hour mark.

Social life? It's really up to you. Nothing is stopping you from going out at night. Again this might actually require discipline. If you're single, you run the danger of ending up as a shut-in and unable to meet potential life partners, unless you make an effort to go out from time to time.

    thanks for ur reply.
Yeah, I can relate to what u're saying that you need to focus 100% and can not go slacking around unlike when you are in the office. Because you always have to prove that you are trustworthy. I know because I used to wfhome for my current employer for about 3 months (I had a complication in pregnancy) but it was different since It is the same company and I am enjoying the same benefits like I work in the office. Now my dilemma is totally giving up my current employment and sign contract with a new one. I asked around and they said there will be screen capturing every 5 minutes and I can not live like that (not that I am afraid to be checked every 5 minutes, it would be just damn annoying and distracting). Also, the skill I will be getting from my current employer will be a major plus in my career so I turned it down just this morning. No regrets. I hope.

good decision @pinay_pay, mas maganda ang regular status sa job kaysa contractual. saka work from home, in my experience, mahirap mag focus sa bahay dahil maraming distraction.

Because you always have to prove that you are trustworthy.
Interesting point. Theoretically, wala dapat silang pakialam as long as you are delivering results. Unfortunately, society isn't that enlightened yet, and people still cling to the notion of "the person is making his effort visible, therefore the person is working hard". In Japan, for example, people stay really late everyday to show everyone that they are working hard and deserve their jobs.

As gonefishing6 has mentioned though, your case is unique kasi may baby ka. I really can't comment or make suggestions in that department, but I can wish you the best of luck on whatever you decide.
