The US of A has been known to leave their friends behind after starting a bloody war. One example for this would be the Bay of Pigs Invasion. They trained some locals but they needed Air Support from America which as some say JFK did not authorize therefore letting a massacre such as that happen. As some say referenced by the Game Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare when Capt. Price said, "we do not leave our friends behind".

Same can be done here in the Philippines. If we only ask for assistance and won't give something in return, we are only dreaming. Or worse we could be another Cuba wherein we waited for Assistance but it never came because of what Americans perceive as their public opinion. They would lose money on war protecting these Islands while also loosing an economic Partner. They don't have any bases here in the first place. Should they worry? Maybe if Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia get into the conflict they would help us because so much more is at stake when they would lose the aforementioned trading partners. China is starting to loose some grip because of Vietnam but their time to go down is still years more. Their Labor problems are still manageable at this point in time.

Its either we let them build bases here or let us be invaded by the Chinese or fight a senseless war loosing more than we could have ever dreamed about. We were never self sufficient when it came to the defense of our country. So we might want to look at what we could give to our friends if we really important to them.

Another plausible thing to do is to form a stronger Alliance with Japan, South Korea and other ASEAN Countries. More of a Military Alliance since we share a culture with these countries. We could also include India to this since they are the only capable country to fight one on one with the Chinese as regards Population and Military Technology. Let us also not forget that they too have a border tension with the Chinese.

Doing things alone is like shooting ourselves in the foot.

I know it's hard for others to accept this matter,
and other people depends on diplomacy (but as we see it does not really work)
until time when we realize that we are in the midst of war when China attack us!
accept the truth that we can't ignore it and escape from the effect of this...
