WEDDING TALK: Destination Weddings is the trend

If you love weddings like i do (i used to work as an events organizer), then you already know that more and more couples opt to have their wedding in a place far away. Most of the time, they would want to do it on the beach and Boracay, Bohol, Batangas, and Palawan have been a popular destination wedding, er, destination.

When i planned my wedding, our first choice was a beach wedding in Boaracay but my mother was against it. She pointed out that many will not make it, especially from my side of the family because we are very hands on with our family business. So we scratched that idea.

If you watch Jason Magbanua's videos or those from other famous videographers such as Threelogy and Mayad (we didnt have a videographer for our wedding because seriously, do you really watch your wedding videos and SDE's everyday?), you may notice that most of the venues are at the beach, especially the celebrities like Tuesday Vargas, Maggie Wilson, and Rica Peralejo. Others were not at the beach but still drove hours to get to the venue (yes, that is still considered a destination wedding), like Regine & Ogie Alcasid and Priscilla & John Estrada.

Would you want a destination wedding for yourself? If so, where would you want it to be?

destination weddings are impractical as hell. especially for big families that demand that you'd have guests of upward of 1000 people or more. (100 tables lang yan)

you have to realize that the reception is where the family shows its power by the number of guests it has.

i would rather do the reception at a local hotel din para di masyadong stressful ang preparation ng venue. it's already stressful as it is, dadagdagan mo pa ng pag travel.

Stress is definitely a con in deciding for a destination wedding. Aside from the travel to the place, you also have to take into consideration your guests and their convenience and their means to travel. Some might say they could make it but cancel at the last minute (which happens naman at any wedding) but you already paid for their dinner at the reception, which is NOT cheap, by the way, at a resort.

But some couples do not mind the stress brought about by traveling if they are experienced travelers. Most of the destination weddings i have encountered do not exceed 100 guests (except maybe for the super rich with no problems with the budget and celebrtities whose friends can very well afford to pay for their tickets and accomodation). I usually ask these couples why they want to risk it and get married at an unfamiliar place and most of their answers are "because the place is too beautiful to pass up." and also, i have never seen an unhappy couple on a destination wedding. I've seen unhappy guests, though, especially when the weather does not cooperate. But usually naman, the couple and their families dont mind the rain. I guess its because theyre there na and already paid for everything so might as well make the most of it. Hehe...
