    DLSU-STC Bulletin
    Issue No. 1 September 27, 2012

A DLSU-Manila/DLS-Canlubang Integration Committee has been meeting regularly with the end in view of providing a seamless and effective transition into the STC beginning AY 2013-2014. This ad hoc committee is composed of representatives of key sectors from both campuses.

    • Freshman application for AY 2013-2014 for both the Manila and STC campuses is now handled by DLSU Manila. A unified Admissions viewbook has been published and contains information on both campuses, including all program descriptions. The marketing of DLSU-STC is likewise being handled by DLSU Manila.

By AY 2013, the Science and Technology Complex will offer 8 degree programs, essentially carried over from the existing DLS Canlubang course offerings but reflective of a revitalized S&T character. These degree programs will henceforth be managed by the appropriate departments of DLSU Manila.

    • A composite group comprised of Finance, Compliance, as well as other relevant sectors, has prepared and presented a proposed tuition and fees structure with the end in view of exploring possible options on how to make the campus more attractive for students. The current proposal presents a “pioneer” incentive rate for the first 3 batches of Freshmen wishing to enroll at DLSU-STC. Discussions are on-going.

    • The Brother President and Chancellor has asked the Academics Council to initiate discussions for a proposed governance structure for DLSU-STC.

    • The Deans, working with their respective Chairs and faculty, have been tasked to prepare for discussion a 10-year plan focused on existing curricula as well as new programs that may be offered at DLSU-STC.

    • As research is at the core of DLSU-STC, the working group headed by the Vice Chancellor for Research is currently developing and refining a 10-year plan that will see the establishment of new centers/institutes. These centers should reflect a strong inter-disciplinary character, while respectful and supportive of individual areas of research.

    • As part of the integration, De La Salle University will own and manage the Integrated School and will henceforth be called the DLSU Integrated School. A new building is currently being constructed which will enable the complete transfer of all classes of the Integrated School from the main building to this new facility.

    • Headed by the Vice Chancellor for Administration, the Physical Facilities Committee is fast-tracking the evaluation of the existing facilities in the Leandro V. Locsin Campus to see what needs to be done in time for the start of AY 2013. This may involve renovation, repurposing, as well as new construction. The priority is to ensure that all necessary infrastructure needed for AY 2013 are in place. There is a common agreement that particular attention will be given to the improvement of the road network as well as upgrade the communication system.

    • Consultations are being done to assess the needs of the various sectors in terms of the different infrastructure requirements, including (but not limited to) research buildings, instructional laboratories, sports and recreation facilities, dormitories, and a place of worship.

    DLSU-STC Bulletin
    Issue No. 2 October 23, 2012

In the most recent meeting of the DLSU-Manila/DLS-Canlubang Integration Committee last October 16, the representatives of key sectors from both campuses agreed on the following:

    • The three long-term strategic intents for DLSU-STC and the corresponding targets:

    Strategic Intent # 1

    1. Leading S&T university in ASEAN

    Targets

    • h-index of 40 in five years, at par with ASEAN university benchmark

    Strategic Intent # 2

    2. Model of Lasallian pedagogy and formation in higher education

    Targets

    In 10 years,
    • 100% board passing rates
    • 100% graduate employability within 6 months after graduation
    • High Lasallian spirituality index of students and graduates
    • 25% of graduates from low socioeconomic (SES) backgrounds

    Strategic Intent # 3

    3. Model of high-impact university-community engagement

    Targets

    In 10 years,
    • 100% board passing rates
    • 100% graduate employability within 6 months after graduation
    • High Lasallian spirituality index of students and graduates
    • 25% of graduates from low socioeconomic (SES) backgrounds

    • In line with the first strategic intent, the working committee is developing a plan to attract and retain highly cited and highly productive Research Professors. The pioneer Research Professors will be selected by invitation and by qualification, and will be provided benefits on top of those existing in DLSU. The Academics Council will develop the selection criteria.
    • The merit-based financial aid will be augmented to provide full scholarship and benefits to public science high school valedictorians, salutatorians, and first honorable mention awardees.

The working group spearheaded by the Vice Chancellor for Research presented the initial plan for the establishment of centers/institutes and structures for research and learning. These institutes are inter-disciplinary in nature, and will be developed in synergy with the industrial locators in the region.

In addition, the Campus Development and Support Systems Work Group headed by the Vice Chancellor for Administration is currently planning the following:

    • Road network for the STC and for the construction of new roads
    • Renovation/reconfiguration of existing classrooms and laboratories
    • Renovation/expansion of various facilities; construction of new facilities
    • Improvement of telephone and Internet connectivity
    • Other immediate and basic IT-related needs
    • Shuttle/transportation service between the Manila and STC campuses
The Vice Chancellor for Lasallian Mission and Alumni Relations, for his part, discussed plans to renovate and construct sports facilities in the Leandro V. Locsin Campus to include (but not limited to) basketball courts, football field, tennis courts, and swimming pools.

    DLSU-STC Bulletin
    Issue No. 3 November 5, 2012

In the October 29 meeting of the De La Salle University and De La Salle-Canlubang Integration Committee, the representatives of key sectors from both campuses discussed updates on academic and student services.

    • The Academic Services group reiterated the governing DLSU-DLSC Integration Principles:
    • DLSU policies, processes, and procedures will prevail over those of DLSC.
    • The students should not be put to a disadvantage because of the integration of DLSU-DLSC.
    • As a general rule, there should be no duplication of functions in the offices under the Academic
    Services Group.
    • Nobody will be forced to transfer from DLSC to DLSU and vice-versa.
    • The Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Services provided the committee with the latest information on integration principles, program permits, and application statistics. He also proposed an integrated organizational structure for the academic services group. The committee agreed to look into the best practices of both campuses which could be adopted and implemented for the whole university.
    • The Dean of Student Affairs presented the work plan of the student services group for implementation by the next academic year. There will be an alignment and integration of student programs and projects in community engagement efforts, counseling programs, student organizations, and other University activities. In addition, policies and procedures governing the students for both campuses will be reflected in an integrated student handbook.
    • The committee also tackled the issue on transportation. Campus Development and Support Systems Work Group headed by the Vice Chancellor for Administration proposed that a study be made on the need for regular transportation between DLSU and DLSU-STC.
    • The need for an urban master planner was raised during the committee meeting. The master planner will be in charge of revising the current master plan to make it into a “live master plan” - one that could change in three to five years. The hiring of a planner will be subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees.
    • The ongoing construction of facilities inside DLSU-STC was also discussed. Grades 5 and 6 of the Integrated School will be able to transfer to the new IS building by January next year. Construction will start soon for the 16-room dormitory annex, while the renovated Guest House will be ready for occupancy by the end of Term 2 this academic year.

I hope the upcoming master plan will be beautiful

Question: Does the campus include the land along the road going towards the rotunda, or from the gate lang talaga yung campus nila?
