Facebook - If you dont have FB are you "weird"?

I have Facebook but I never use it.

Everyone I meet who can at least afford money for internet use (aside from daily needs ie. food , rent taxes, bills, savings, etc.) has Facebook except one person I know. He is fairly rich, he owns a nice laptop, etc. but he doesnt have Facebook and its the year 2012.


I hate Facebook!

There I said it. I have nothing against people who have Facebook but I don't use my account. I hate social networking sites in general but I LOVE sites like DeviantArt or Youtube, etc.

Currently, there are 27,331,380 Facebook users in the Philippines, which makes it #8 in the ranking of all Facebook statistics by Country.

That's 92.02% of the Philippine online population!!! So chances are that if you are 13 - 65 years old and reading this (meaning you have computer access), you probably already have a Facebook account.


So Why am I Asking This?

So if we consider that 92.02% of the Philippine online population have Facebook that's a big majority of online users.

By "weird" I don't mean that you are defective or something is wrong with you. Of course NOTHING IS WRONG with you if you have a computer and internet but don't bother to use social networking sites.

BUT ... People are always shocked when I tell them I don't use my FB account. When I find someone who is ok financially and has computer and internet access but NO Facebook account people are always shocked.

But from a social perspective are people who have ok finances and computer & internet access (personal PC, laptop, internet cafe etc.) but no Facebook considered weird by other people?

What are your views on this PEXers?

Ako rin walang FB account. Nor Twitter. Social networking sites like those never really grabbed me. I prefer to limit myself to my existing circle of friends. I don't like the 'friends-of-friends' accessibility of FB.

Mas gusto ko forums that cater to my hobbies and interests.

i've stopped using facebook. i have twitter but i only use it to follow sports news of teams that i follow. aside from that i don't use it to connect.

weird? no.
may FB ako dati pero di ako active kaya dineactivate ko na lang. ewan ko ba bakit maraming naaaddict dyan. when i had my account tapos magla log in ako, approve and disapprove lang ng friend request, konting basa sa wall... after that wala na akong magawa. anyway, di ko naman talaga gusto yang FB. i heard many stories na nag-aaway at cyber bullying.

I have FB pero madalang pa sa patak ng ulan sa taginit kung buksan ko. Ewan ko ba, yung iba buong buhay yata inilagay na sa Facebook. Wag lang na di...upload sa FB. Di na nagtira ng privacy. Tingin ko parang sila ang weird.

couple of years ago i received an invitation from a former colleague so ayun napa-sign up ako. From there, whenever receiving invites, pinipili ko lang yung iaaccept ko (kaya bonggang 20 lang nasa list ko, wehehe). Tska i would only have the chance to open it kapag may personal message which my email account would notify me of. Ewan ko pero parang after friendster i grew weary of social networking. Kung sabagay kahit sa friendster hindi rin ako ganun ka-active. Kapag nga nagtatanong yung ibang kakilala, kabarkada ko for my fb account i just say i forgot my password then they would say "ano kaba e di gawa kanalang ng bago?" and then i would say natatamad ako to create one.

With this thread I felt relieved na hindi pala ako nagiisa! Yey!

Personally if i would want to entertain myself and spend some time online, dito nalang ako sa PEX hehe. Or self-help/development blogs, angdami dyan.

Four of my closest friends have no plans of going on facebook because they feel it's too much invasion of privacy and/or it's juvenile.

I've had one for years and it was fun in the beginning, but nowadays with all the silliness people are posting, the narcissism, the skankiness, and the crappy privacy settings, it's just not worth the time.

Why the need for Facebook? It's because everybody thinks their life is so f*cking interesting. It's for people who are in dire need of attention. Kulang sila sa pansin.

Nobody wants to see your st*pid pictures. Nobody cares what book you're reading or what you just ate.

hindi naman weird yun, may choice naman lahat ng tao eh. Ang gamit lang ng facebook ko eh para macontact ang mga kakilala ko, hindi ko naman alam lahat ng phone number nila at hindi naman lahat sa kanila ay gumagamit ng yahoo messenger, msn o skype. Convenient para sakin ang facebook dahil nga halos lahat may account na sa fb.

I just use my FB for information campaign and posting stupid things our government is doing, ang FB wall ko nagmumukhang LAFI, hahaha..

Yun hindi nirereport sa mainstream media na important news (dahil puro showbiz, impeachment, at pagbrainwash sa mga tao na maging yellow army/ zombie at Grace Lee ang news), ako ang nag-iinform lalo na sa mga friends ko na nasa ibang bansa.

But for personal, nah, di nga ako nag-uupload ng pictures ko at kahit any information na nangyayari sa buhay ko, kung ano kinakain ko, etc.

Yun lang nag dahilan ko kaya nag-FB ako.

I do NOT have Facebook & I'm proud of NOT having one. Facebook is a data-mining site for the government.
