why not start your own business?

I thought about that, maybe a food stall franchise or even one of those franchised generic drugstores. I am still studying the pros and cons. Meanwhile, I am seriously studying personal finance, value investing in the stock market and even taking a look at daytrading for some excitement.

My goal is to have a monthly passive income that would equal the family's monthly expenses, thereby eliminating the need to look for a job and do whatever I like with my time.

That's great, I would like to try that, but our subdivision is already full of tricycles. Is it a good idea to compete with them by starting a jeepney shuttle service?

I was working right out of college and taking up graduate studies; while being an online entrepreneur selling electronics but now I'm broke and in debt of about 40k... :-( my eldest daughter was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder and it wiped out everything I had, I realized money isn't everything... but I miss those days when i was financially free...

^that's sad to hear. pero good thing meron kang pangtustos nung magkasakit anak mo. wala po ba kayo hmo? kung wala, try to find a good one. nung magkasakit si misis ng dengue a month ago 20k++ ang bill pero wala kami binayaran.

palpakiners din first 2 attempts ko for investment this year. masakit din ang kalugihan na naranasan ko, but that's life. im in my 3rd attempt, pero ngayon wala muna cash out for investment. im into sales muna.

expecting an increase next month sa day job ko at karamihan nun balak ko ilaan sa lote para matapos ng mas maaga.

Not to discourage you with food franchise but I tried that few times but none were self supporting that we closed it down for less than a year. Maybe the location was not good. but then again, the operational cost was high while income was very low.
These are all what we tried and all closed down and sucked out of our money.
    1. kerrimo - investment around 200k - location was at shaw mrt stn with 9k rent fee
    2. forgot the name but food stall that sells fishball, kwekwek etc - 28k (not even 1 month, it closed)
    3. crystal clear water stn - 600k - loc was at a subdivision (we do not have rent fee for our stn coz we own the bldg and lot) but still income was not enought to sustain itself. Negative pa.
and these franchises have their royalty fees. ex. crystal clear, wala sila pakealam if nalulugi ka, they will always claim their 6% royalt fee of their "forcasted income" na hindi naman namemeet. kahit mpakitaan mo sila ng ledger wala silang pake. so kahit wala ka kita monthly may 6k silang sinisingil samin monthly. Imbes kumita ka negative kapa. Ayun binenta ko, and I only got like 30% of what I invested.

All of which wants their own "tao" for you to hire, so hindi ka pwedeng mag hire ng sarili mo, at dapat sundin mo yung wage margin ng mga tao at bilang. ex. sa kerrimo at food tall na binili ko, tig 2 tao that has to be paid 6k each monthly. Pag nag absent pa patay negosyo.. basta kinikita ko jan is mga 2k monthly lang, sobrang nakakapagod lang kasi araw araw imomonitor mo yung sales at inventory for a 2k/mo? not worth it.

I heard geenric drug store has good ROI. I researched that for quite sometime but I backed out coz I could not seem to find a location that has no branch 15 meters away from mine.(may rule sila na dapat 15 meters kayo mgkalayo or more ata). yung mga malalayo na pwede as in malayo, wala ng bibili. Also the capital one needs to invest was huge so I said, this is not for me, not to mention I do not have any background in medicines/medical field. All I know is that paracetamol is generic but that's about it. I know someone who is already a multi-millionaire at age of 32 because of this (he has 2 branches in davao).

The only good investment I was able to make was buy a condo unit and this is giving me a passive income of 15k, headache free. All I do is collect once a month and have our maid clean it up once in a while.

So if I were you, think multiple times and whatever it is - location is very very impt.

Hello, just joined PEx recently and I'm browsing through threads. I'm 24 and the total contents of my bank account are tadaaa P35k. And I don't want to call it "savings" kasi gagastusin ko din yan this month when i go to Singapore. It's disappointing especially when I compare it to the posts here na hundreds of thousands (or millions pa!) pero well, I've been working less than a year (passed boards in Feb, started working March, opened my bank acct in April) and I think I enjoyed my newly found financial independence too much. Puro travel and shopping. This thread is a wakeup call na kailangan ko na magspend more responsibly.

At matagal ko nang na-accept na medicine is really about delayed gratification. Though hopefully by the age of 35 medyo padded na yung bank account ko. Please. Hahahaha

    1. kerrimo - investment around 200k - location was at shaw mrt stn with 9k rent fee

    - Am not familiar with this one. I will ensure that I will only invest on tried on tested franchises. I am looking at waffle time, potato corner and master siomai. These food kiosks are well established and market leaders in their niche. I just need to find a good location for them.
    2. forgot the name but food stall that sells fishball, kwekwek etc - 28k (not even 1 month, it closed)
    3. crystal clear water stn - 600k - loc was at a subdivision (we do not have rent fee for our stn coz we own the bldg and lot) but still income was not enought to sustain itself. Negative pa.

Thanks. This will remind me to scrutinize the contract carefully for any hidden charges, unreasonable royalty fees, etc.

Generic drugstores are doing quite well and is real threat to Mercury and Watsons in terms of price, convenience, and customer service. I am looking at one of the leaders in this business. Thought the investment is higher than the food kiosks., I will probably have to team up with pharmacists and more investors to minimize the risk

The only good investment I was able to make was buy a condo unit and this is giving me a passive income of 15k, headache free. All I do is collect once a month and have our maid clean it up once in a while.

Condos are also good; however, I believe the market is quite saturated. I am glad that you have successfully turn yours into a profitable endeavor.

So if I were you, think multiple times and whatever it is - location is very very impt.
Thanks a lot for your comments and on sharing your experience.

    Hi pinay_pay,

Your post has enlighten me more about putting up a business, it has made me more decided to focus on what I have right now. Earning from my online jobs, I am thinking of investing into business such as those you mentioned, however after reading your post I've made my final decision, business is not for me at this time. My time will come for this type of investment and will look forward for that in the years to come. I've decided to make the most of what I currently have and search all possible ways to earn extra passive or semi passive income. Thank you for taking time to share.

29 years old. 2 years nagwork, 1 year bum, 3 years nag-aral ulit, 6 months nag-aral for boards, ilang months maghintay ng boards, 6 months nagtraining. Haba!

Nagstart ulit ako magwork this year. May 100k ako time deposit habang nag-second course ako. Mostly from mga side business. Nadagdagan ko pa ng 200k from 7 months of work this year. Nadepress pa ako kasi naghihinayang ako sa time na nag-aral ulit ako. Sana nagfocus na ako sa online work.

Oh well. Kayod kayod. I'm aiming for another 200k by the end of the year. Sana wag tamaan ng katamaran.

  18. #237
^ Sayang naman. Di rin biro-biro ang gumastos sa pag-aaral.

It's really good to really have a focus. It will eventually reward you in the end.
