MANILA, Philippines -- ABS-CBN is set to heat up the rainy season with its upcoming romance-drama series "Isla."

"Isla" is the newest soap under the "Precious Hearts Romances" series. It will star actors Matteo Guidicelli and Matt Evans, and actresses Jewel Mische and Jessy Mendiola.

The afternoon soap will tell the story of two strangers, Brennan (Guidicelli) and Yani (Mendiola), who get stranded on an island after their ship gets wrecked.

Romance blooms between them as they spend time alone on the island, but the two strangers are not without their respective baggage from the "real world." Brennan is married to his dedicated wife Megan (Mische), while Yani's childhood best friend Justin (Evans) has untold feelings for the young woman.

"My name here is Megan," Mische said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Monday. "She's a young hotelier, she's very successful, she's intelligent, she's tough, and she's an ideal wife to Brennan. It's just that, ideal siya pero nahihirapan sila magka-anak."

"In fact magse-second honeymoon sila (Brennan and Megan), kaya lang na-ship-wreck sila (Brennan and Yani). Hindi ako nag-give up in searching for him, only to find out mayroon palang nangyari sa isla," Mische added.

The romance that grows between Yani and Brennan, Mendiola said, will set off a series of twists and conlicts in the story.

"Doon mangyayari lahat ng love story naming dalawa (Brennan), tapos pagbalik namin ng Manila saka malalaman ni Justin at ni Megan na may nangyari samin ni Brennan," Mendiola said.

"So doon nag-start 'yung conflict naming apat. As the story goes on, sobrang nagbi-build 'yung angst namin sa isa't isa, 'yung love, and 'yung betrayals," she added.

"Isla" is scheduled to start filming next week, according to Guidicelli, and is slated for a release later this year.

It is directed by Nico Hernandez and Connie Macatuno.

MANILA, Philippines -- Heading into his newest leading man role, actor Matteo Guidicelli prepared extensively to give justice to his latest on-screen persona.

In "Precious Hearts Romances: Isla," Guidicelli will portray Brennan, a married businessman who gets stranded on an island with a perfect stranger after getting shipwrecked.

"I'm the youngest of a business family, a rich business family. May asawa na ako, ang asawa ko dito si Megan (Jewel Mische), tapos parang may ship-wreck kami, tapos magkikita naman kami ni Yani (Jessy Mendiola)," Guidicelli told ABS-CBN News Monday.

Romance blooms between Yani and Brennan on the island, setting off a series of twists and conflicts among its principal characters.

Since a bulk of the show's story will be set on an island -- the cast will be shooting in Caramoan Islands in Camarines Sur -- Guidicelli said he prepared himself physically for the sexy scenes expected of a "Precious Hearts Romances" series.

"I really prepared for this soap. I knew about this three months ago. Pinaghandaan talaga namin po. Me, I really had to get dark for the soap dahil isla 'diba. So I got dark, I lost weight, I got a new haircut, so talagang new character, new look talaga 'to," Guidicelli said.

"Marami pa nga akong preparations for the soap. I got a new sport to get my body really lean for this soap -- triathlon. And nag-a-undergo kami ng maraming, maraming workshops, ginagawang mga immersons. That's why I'm really excited and I'm ready for this soap," he added.

Joining Guidicelli and Mendiola in "Precious Hearts Romances: Isla" are actor Matt Evans, who will play Justin, Yani's bestfriend; and actress Jewel Mische, who will portray Megan, Justin's dedicated wife.

Isla" is scheduled to start filming next week, according to Guidicelli, and is slated for a release later this year.

It is directed by Nico Hernandez and Connie Macatuno.

MANILA, Philippines -- Young actress Jessy Mendiola is ready to shed her good-girl image as she gears up for her sexiest role yet in upcoming series "Isla."

Mendiola, who will portray working girl Yani in the newest "Precious Hearts Romances" series, will bare more skin as her character gets stranded on an island with a perfect stranger played by actor Matteo Guidicelli.

"Given na naman na 'pag matagal na kayo sa isla, wala ka nang ibang damit kundi 'yun nalang, so natural naman siguro na unti-unti na siyang huhubaran. It's 'Precious Hearts Romances' eh, romance eh, hindi naman siya basta't hubad lang," Mendiola said on Monday in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

The young actress said that her more daring role on-screen also reflects her maturity as a person and as an actress.

"This one's a whole different project, since 'Sabel' to now, ang-dami ko nang napagdaanan in real life. Gusto ko makita nila 'yung kaibahan ng ginawa ko sa 'Sabel' atsaka dito.

"So I guess in the sense of maturity, yes, I am ready, because first day palang namin na merong ganitong scenes sa project, I said yes already," she said.

'Privileged'

The project will also see her first team-up with Guidicelli, who Mendiola said has helped in making her feel at ease considering the nature of their roles.

"Si Matteo, akala mo una tahimik lang, hindi makikipag-usap, pero when you look at him, magsa-smile siya, tapos siya 'yung unang maga-approach. 'Yun 'yung maganda kay Matteo -- hindi siya mayabang, walang mean bone sa katawan niya.

"Sobrang gaan lang niya katrabaho, aalagaan ka niya sa set, pino-protect ka niya. I feel very comfortable with Matteo, personally and in our working relationship," she said.

Mendiola also said she is honored that ABS-CBN continues to give her leading roles in major projects, her third since her debut series "Sabel" in 2010.

"Sobrang honored at masaya ako na binigyan ako ulit ng show na lead role, tapos 'yung tiwala nandun parin. I feel very privileged lang na palagi nila akong pinipili, palagi nila akong binibigyan ng project," Mendiola said.
