    Lightbulb Next-Gen Consoles PS4 & XBOX Next/720 Thread

Console Fanboys what is your views & expectations regarding next-gen consoles?are you excited?

The Xbox 720 is due for a Christmas 2013 release, according to the latest rumours swirling around the development of Microsoft's next generation console.

Gaming site VG247 said that Xbox has confirmed to third parties that the 720 will boasts a Blu-Ray drive, as well as two GPUs.

The site also suggested that the next version of Kinect, the console’s revolutionary control system, would be built into the machine.

An announcement on the next generation Xbox, believed to be codenamed “Durango”, is not expected till next year.

Meanwhile, US news site Kokatu has claimed that the PS4, codenamed Orbis, is similarly due for release in late 2013 and will work in conjunction with the recently released Vita handheld.

Other rumours suggest that Orbis games will not be backwards-compatible. The games could even be locked to a singular PlayStation account, thus stripping the second-hand market of its viability.

Neither Sony or Microsoft would comment on the rumours.

The Wii U, Nintendo's next-generation console, is expected to hit the shops this Christmas.

IGN sources indicate that the next PlayStation, rumoured to be called 'Orbis', will sport custom chips based on AMD's A8-3850 APU and Radeon HD 7670 GPU, offering the combined performance of both integrated and discrete graphics processors.

The HD 7670 is a DirectX 11-enabled card clocked to 1GHz with up to 1GB of dedicated VRAM.

Select studios have reportedly been receiving PS4 dev kits since the beginning of the year, with more finalised units set to arrive towards the end of 2012.

Forbes also claimed in February that Sony's next-gen console will use a graphics chip provided by AMD, ditching current provider Nvidia in the process.

Around the same time, US PlayStation boss Jack Tretton played down the chances of Sony launching PS4 any time soon.

Last I heard that the next generation console (PS4, X720) will be equipped with more CPU cores, not just dual core.

Rumors suggest that AMD will provide both CPU and GPU for PS4, and that's something worth looking forward to. And also rumors suggest that the X720 will be equipped with 16 cores Power7 IBM CPU. Wow 16 cores, too good to be true.

So I'm pretty sure that Dual Core concept for the next generation is a history. It won't be happening.

Expect the PS4 and 720 will be loaded with more powerful components inside the box, not to mention both SONY and MS are both eager to target the Photo-Realism visuals for Next-Gen when they saw the Unreal Engine 3's Good Samaritan Demo last year. LOL

Rumors also suggest that the next generation consoles can support up to 4K resolution. We just hope that it runs on 60fps if that's true.

Other source says that the next gen console can also run porn on native 4K display and it can also support used-games? no!, used porn DVDs as a backwards compatibility.. *just kidding*

Keep this thread up guys, just passing through.

These next generation consoles is just going to tell us - it's time to throw your xbox 360/ps3 and buy these new consoles because we will no longer support your old consoles and convince the major gaming companies to also stop making games for them.

You have no choice but to buy these if you want to play the latest games. To give 100% quality service to xbox 720, there will be no more support for your old consoles.

No amount of magnum ice cream or starbucks coffee will make you the coolest kid in your subdivision if you have these and your neighbors/relatives/friends and internet buddies will envy you.

Duon sa last statement - sold na agad ang customer.

    Red face

^ talaga? confirm na ba yan?..baka they will use cloud base tech. tapos mag-aupgrade yung system ng Sony & MS, ilang beses na nangyari na hack system nila, worst yung sony system.

I agree with you, we just hope that they wll make things right this time around especially SONY.

There are also rumors that the next gen system will only support cloud based or digital distribution. Err I doubt that this is the right time to implement that, since the third world country like Philippines and the other poor countries can't afford the 6-12mbps internet connection, not to mention if Sony and MS are eager to implement that plan for next gen, we'll be needing a fast internet connection to be able to download bulk files Game software..

The only annoying thing this current gen console is the PS3's mandatory FW update.

may rumors din na same architecture na yung ps4 and xboxXXX meaning mas madali mag release ng games especially for ps4 kasi EXCOTIC yung architecture nila and naughty dog lang yata naka master ng ps3 system eh.

dapat mag play ng used games yung mga new console. ang mahal na nga ng games ngayon mababa pa ang quality ang daming BUGS (FU bethesda)

anung dual core???? NANGIINSULTO KA BA?

The tipster claims that Xbox 720 will have a 16-core IBM Power PC CPU, a unit powerful enough to accommodate demanding games and, most of all, the new version of Kinect. It seems Microsoft has plans of increasing the sensor's accuracy and this will require at least four cores to track multiple players and precise details like the movement of fingertips.

^16 cores? baka presyo ng isang unit $8000 more or less

  13. #12
    ^
Not to mention when SONY released the PS3 equipped with $400 million Cell processor with 8 logical co-processors at the time it was the most powerful CPU ever created until Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Extreme came out.
So I guess that 16 cores rumor for X720 is not just a speculation, it was indeed existed, only a console version to lower the cost. Probably a $600 console price won't hurt at all if it has a powerful components inside the box.

I still call BS on that 16-core. Marketing BS and all that.

Baka its 16 threads. 4 cores with quad threading.

Super duper BS.

    WORD.

You' are probably right, but then again we should wait for MS's official statement if the rumors are all true..

I don't know about those developers who claims that the next gen will be equipped with 16-core.. But if the 16-core is indeed existed then I guess it's just a ARM based, the one we see in mobile devices. Mura kasi manufacturing cost nun eh compare sa traditional architecture, baka pwede pa

  16. #15
Also, there's only one x86 16-core in existence right now. The AMD 16-Core Opteron. Of course its not from IBM.

  17. #16
    ^
Yeah that one too, at first I thought that the Opteron CPU is set to compete with core i series in the high-end CPU until Phenom II X4 was announced. Server pala yan..

Actually I'm excited if the rumors about AMD to provide both CPU and GPU for PS4 orbis One question that the fans wants to know, what architecture will they put on PS4? Phenom II?, Opteron?, Bulldozer FX?.. If bulldozer FX, pwede na, well kahit na nung tinimbang kulang..

Microsoft Durango: Is the next Xbox more powerful than we thought?

Development kits for the next Xbox were shipped to developers in March, Xbox World can reveal.

The first devkits were sent out shortly after Microsoft's supposedly top secret developers' conference in London on 28 February of this year. Crytek's senior technical artist Sean Tracy prematurely Tweeted his attendance, saying: "enjoying the Durango developers summit in London. So far, great swag and interesting talks." An hour later, Tracy remembered the secret part of his secret Microsoft Conference invite and deleted the Tweet, albeit slightly too late to avoid confirming the next Xbox is codenamed Durango, and representatives from across Europe were in Britain for a briefing on the new hardware.

PlayStation 4: Why Sony's plan to turn PS4 into a PC makes sense

Developers are moving onto next-gen - whether Sony is ready or not...

Sony US boss Jack Tretton has downplayed the possibility of "trying to launch new technology any time soon." According to Tretton: "when you announce [next-gen hardware] really depends on the health of the existing platform and the other things you have going on. And right now, we're focused on PlayStation 3."

This is a company, though, with a very open policy of not commenting on rumours - and there are plenty. The previous month, a hastily deleted tweet from Crytek senior technical artist Sean Tracy spoke of "interesting talks and great swag" at a London-based next-gen Xbox developers summit. Moreover, there are reports of Durango development kits (the working name for the next-gen Xbox) shipping to developers already. It's now up to Sony to respond, or risk a late start on the next generation.

Sony Europe boss Jim Ryan echoed that "there's still a lot of unfinished business on PS3," but that "we could consider it undesirable to be significantly later than the competition [with a new home console]." Sony made that mistake before with PS3, and few would dispute that it handed the initiative to Microsoft.

"We talked about how difficult it was to get hold of PS3 devkits early," Sony Computer Entertainment product developer Shuhei Yoshida told CVG. "Part of the problem was that they were gigantic machines - very intimidating, noisy and hot."

The timing of PS3's release and the architecture of the system itself worked against Sony. Built upon the often wild rhetoric of former Sony boss Ken Kutaragi, the Cell processor was just as unorthodox as the PS2's Emotion Engine. After 2005's crazy talk of 120fps becoming "the benchmark for the coming generation," PS3 struggled to deliver multiplatform titles that could favourably compare to Xbox 360's in its early days.

The arguably weaker 360 uses a PC-style DirectX-based platform that's just a stone's throw from common PC development. Its unified RAM, furthermore (PS3's is split into two 256mb banks) encouraged assets that didn't sit comfortably on PS3, often requiring brutal optimisations. Developers had to think and work twice as hard to catch up with PS3's unusual architecture.

In short, PS4 won't support PS3 games as a backwards compatibility
Pwede na rin kasi on going pa rin ang PS3 sales kahit ilabas nila ang successor Price drop nalang ang kulang
