The opening act whose name escapes me now, is a very good singer with a very beautiful voice! Her name was like Julie Ann something. She did Super Bass along with the rap! Imagine that! Her repertoire was very cool and it included Judas, California King Bed and one of Paramore's songs.
The show started with Julie Anne San Jose. I wasn’t that familiar with her since I don’t watch GMA or local television that often but I heard she was from Party Pilipinas and the “love team” of Elmo Magalona. I did some research about her before cause my followers on my other blog were comparing me to her because of reasons I do not know of!
First impressions were: She is hella pretty. Second was: THIS KID CAN SING!!! She sang covers from Paramore, Nicki Minaj (Super Bass, of which the crowd went wild and she can definitely rap!) & closed her set with Rihanna’s California King Bed. Both me and Matt were just familiar with her but when she sang Paramore and Rihanna me and Matt became INSTANT fans! Only comment would be I’m not so sure of her “identity” yet. Maybe she can venture on that a little bit more in the future.
Julie Anne San Jose’s controversial fall. Yes, she did fell. Worried a lot actually. In the middle of her song she lost her balance. Not many reacted though! Well, people were taken aback by it whether or not its actually a real fall or that was part of her exhibition. I’m not really sure!
I rarely talk about the opening acts of the concerts I watch since, frankly, with so much singing talent in our country, almost everyone worth his or her salt can sing!
Anyhow, this girl, whose name is Julie Ann San Jose, thanks to a reader Che who volunteered her name, opened for David Archuleta in his show last Monday. And wow, this girl can sing! Her repertoire included most of today's hits like Judas, Super Bass and California King Bed, and she really blew me away! Her confidence, her voice, and it's not easy to rap, mind you, and she did Super Bass like she was Nickie Minaj! How cool is that!
Anyway, she's a good alternative to all the tepid pop singers we produce who just sings slow love songs (yawn!). I just hope someone produces good catchy pop songs for her, because she can really sing and dance!
1. What's your dream project? I want to be like Angelina Jolie. I want to try (making) an action movie... ‘Yon pa lang ‘yong hindi ko pa nagagawa so I want to try that some time.
2. Who are your local celeb crushes? Richard Gutierrez, Dennis Trillo, and Dingdong Dantes.
3. How do you stay fit? I (lessen my carb intake) and I exercise daily.
4. What's your comfort food? Madalas kong kinakain cereals and fruits.
5. Describe your ideal guy. He's a composed person, a gentleman, sweet, respectful especially to his family and the girl’s family. Most of all, he's (a) God-fearing (person).
Five talented kids, or so say the judges, have made it to the grand finals of Pop Star Kids, capping the first season of QTV-11’s search for the next child superstar.
Rita Daniela Iringan, Pocholo Bismonte, Renzo Ramil Almario, Vanessa Blanca Rangadhol and Julie Ann San Jose will be featured in a showdown of vocal calisthenics on Sept. 17.
Julie Anne San Jose
Sugar and spice and everything nice. That’s how the guys over at Pop Star Kids describe the 12-year-old Julie Anne San Jose.
A first year high school student from Bagbag, Novaliches, she relates how she and her mother Marivic had snuck out from Daddy Jonathan’s watchful eyes to rush to SM Fairview for the auditions. The long line, huge crowd and the oppressive heat did not discourage Julie Anne.
Mommy Marivic recalls how they already sensed Julie Anne’s musical inclination as early as when she was two years old when she surprised everyone in the family singing Wency Cornejo’s “Habang May Buhay.” Donna Cruz eventually became the young singer wannabe’s idol.
Being part of their church choir is one of the things she loves doing during weekends. She feels this is her way of serving their church aside from participating in the celebration of the Mass every Sunday. Her charitable nature brings her to say that if she is fortunate to win the Pop Star Kids Grand Finals, “I will share this blessing by donating a part of it to our church, to the Kapuso Foundation of GMA Network and save the rest in the bank for my future.”
My next bet for big-time stardom among today’s young generation of talents is Party Pilipinas regular Julie Anne San Jose.
Her career path seems to be trekking the similar road earlier taken by most other female superstars. Like Nora Aunor, Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta, Maricel Soriano and Judy Ann Santos, Julie Anne also started in showbiz at a young age.
At 11, she joined the Q-11 talent search Pop Star Kids where she emerged as one of the finalists to grand champion Rita Iringan, who should also be given her big break since she is fast growing into a lovely lady.
That early, however, Julie Anne was already starting to develop her own following, especially after musical director Danny Tan formed Sugar Pop Kids where she was taken in as a member. Her following increased when her group was featured regularly in the now-defunct SOP Sunday noontime show of GMA 7.
While she was with SOP, she was tapped to sing the theme songs of some of the network’s most popular programs: Dyesebel, The Last Prince and later, Pilyang Kerubin. She also did an acting stint as the sister of Camille Prats in the TV remake of Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan?
Today, Julie Anne is already 16 and has a successful team-up with Elmo Magalona in Party Pilipinas. Every other week, they have a regular musical production that follows a storyline. Directed by Rico Gutierrez, it is based on the William Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet. Its title: Elmo and Julie Anne – A Wazak Love Story.
But instead of Shakespearean dialogue that would bore today’s youth and drive them to Sunday siesta, the musical production done rap style uses Gloc9 hits. Tomorrow is the Wazak Love Story’s finale and the team behind it swears there will be a twist toward the end that not even the great Bard would have imagined could work.
This final installment of their rap musical is much awaited by the fans of Elmo and Julie Anne, who are collectively known as Julielmo.
But are they really an item off-screen? Elmo already stated in a previous Startalk episode that he doesn’t want to be associated with a love team. This may be part of a career move since as showbiz history shows, most leading men in love teams get left out in the cold when the leading lady gets launched solo and succeeds on her own.
Of course, the Julielmos are hoping that the Elmo and Julie Anne tandem would develop into something more serious even behind the camera.
Now, I may be stirring a hornet’s nest with this revelation, but it’s no secret in gossip mills that Jay Perillo, who is rumored to be Kris Bernal’s real squeeze, was linked to Julie Anne from the time they were paired in their own musical production also in Party Pilipinas. And now, Jay is the nemesis of Elmo’s character in A Wazak Love Story. Observe Jay’s body language toward Julie Anne. People around them notice how the singer is extra sweet toward her.
But this is the biggest shocker that may spark yet another EDSA revolution. I hardly touch gossip in this column, but this item is too delicious to pass up. I was told by a very reliable source that Joshua Dionisio, the screen partner of Barbie Forteza, had recently developed a huge crush on Julie Anne. No less than Barbie herself noticed this and had been needling Joshua about it. It all started almost a month ago — when Barbie and Joshua were making the rounds of GMA 7 shows to promote Nita Negrita.
Party Pilipinas was one of their destinations and during a technical rehearsal Joshua couldn’t hide his infatuation toward Julie Anne. You have to understand that Joshua is 15-turning-16 — with raging hormones and all, while Barbie is only — what? 12?
Now, I hope Joshua-Barbie fans don’t initiate an assassination attempt against Julie Anne. Not her fault. Based on what somebody close to her told me, she will not even encourage Joshua since she hardly has time between her studies as a mass communications freshman at Angelicum (she may move to UP to pursue theater arts) and all her showbiz commitments.
I don’t mean to create havoc among their respective fans, but I suggest that their followers allow these young screen idols to get exposed to other leading men and ladies and not peg them with simply just one partner on TV and in the movies.
Again, try tracing the career patterns taken by our female superstars and you’ll notice that they also went through a rigodon of screen partners.
That will be part of Julie Anne’s growth as a performer. Let’s just wait for what happens next, but I am not backing out of my bet that Julie Anne San Jose is on her way to major, major stardom.
Julie Anne shares kung ano ang mga paghahandang ginagawa niya for her biggest gig yet. Text by Karen de Castro.
Julie Anne San Jose is fast rising as one of the most promising voices of today, at linggo-linggo niyang hinaharana ang kanyang mga fans sa Party Pilipinas. But this July 18, mas malaking audience ang haharanahin ni Julie Anne dahil siya ang napili bilang front act para sa concert ng produkto ng American Idol na si David Archuleta. Paano nga bang nalaman ni Julie Anne ang tungkol dito? “Actually nga, I really had no idea kung paano nangyari. Kasi nga, I was reading a newspaper noon, tapos bigla ko lang nabasa sa Entertainment page,” kuwento niya. “Nagulat ako, kasi parang out of nowhere, bigla kong makikita yung pangalan ko sa concert ticket ni David Archuleta. Tapos yun nga, kinonfirm ko siya kay Mama at saka dun sa handler ko kung totoo ba yun o hindi.” Ano naman ang kanyang pakiramdam na siya ang napili para sa event na ito? “First time kong magfo-front act. So I’m pretty excited and happy, and honored kasi ako po yung napili na magfo-front act dun sa concert niya,” she says. Anu-ano naman kayang mga paghahanda ang kanyang ginagawa ngayon para dito? “Of course, a lot of rest and rehearsals,” she shares. “Maybe. It depends on him,” sagot niya nang nakangiti. Abangan si Julie Anne sa concert ni David Archuleta this July 18 sa Araneta Coliseum. At patuloy na suportahan si Julie Anne sa Party Pilipinas linggo-linggo dito lamang sa GMA.

Singer-actress Julie Ann San Jose plays support role to child wonder Jillian Ward in the high-rating drama-fantasy-musical "Daldalita," which began airing last October 17. The Popstar Kid finalist is Marga in the series directed by Don Michael Perez.
Marga, to the delight of the growing fan base of "JuliElmo," is once again the love interest of Gino, played by, of course, Elmo Magalona. She is the younger sister of Katrina (Manilyn Reynes) and Carmela (Donna Cruz). Donna is the mother of Daldalita as portrayed by Ward.
Singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid is Mateo, the father of Daldalita who is a veterinarian. Gino is Mateo’s apprentice.
San Jose, though better known for her singing prowess which she regularly displays in "Party Pilipinas," is taking her acting job seriously. She has previously done lead roles in a number of "Maynila" episodes and beautifully acquitted herself as Lizzy in "Andres De Saya," which was topbilled by Iza Calzado and Cesar Montano.
One of the finest singers in the GMA Artist Center roster, San Jose’s career is backed by her vocal talent, amiable looks, and the remarkable screen chemistry with teenage son of the late Francis Magalona. The "JuliElmo" loveteam has been dubbed the Most Promising Love Team of 2010 by the prestigious Guillermo Mendoza Foundation Awards.
On the recording front, she has earned a good reputation as the voice behind the theme songs of some of the successful GMA TV series such as "Dwarfina," "Sisid," "The Last Prince," "Dyesebel" and even that of the full-length movie "Tween Academy" where she and Elmo worked together.
MANILA, Philippines – Notwithstanding her multiple talents—singing, dancing, acting, and playing instruments such as piano, guitar, and drums—Julie Anne San Jose admits she wants to be able to write her own songs.
“Frustrated composer ako,” she told Bulletin Entertainment in an interview at the Ultimate Schick Look 2011 Grand Finals held last Nov. 25.
Julie Anne related that she’s tried writing songs before but they “didn’t work out kasi I can’t find the perfect melody and lyrics.” She also has a pile of lyrics already, but deems that “’yung mga thoughts ko, hindi sila settled, parang kalat-kalat...”
Her schedule is also packed these days that she apparently couldn’t squeeze in time for songwriting. In fact, she has stopped for one semester at Angelicum College (where she’s a sophomore) because of her workload.
“Halos araw-araw kaming umaalis ng bahay—tapings, rehearsals, tapos taping ulit—so hindi talaga kaya. Gusto ko nga po sana before mag-try ng kahit isang subject man lang para man lang makausad ako pero ayun, sa sobrang tight ng schedule hindi na ko nakahanap ng time makapag-enroll,” she recalled with a hearty laugh.
Her frustration for songwriting apparently doesn’t diminish her enthusiasm to create, as she said, “nagta-try talaga ako nang nagta-try [sumulat ng kanta] until makuha ko na rin.”
She also considers right timing and inspiration when it comes to writing songs.
“Kailangan talaga inspired ka sa lahat ng bagay. And you have to be aware of what’s happening around you. And you have to also consider your emotions, so depende sa mood mo kung anong klaseng song ‘yung kailangan mong i-compose…” said Julie Anne.
She nevertheless explores her artistry through performing covers, which she does mainly for her fans as a “token of appreciation” for them. She may well be considered a YouTube sensation as her take on Nicki Minaj's hit song "Super Bass" has already amassed over 11 million views on YouTube as of this writing
The 17-year-old Kapuso star takes good care of her voice “dahil ayokong masira, kasi siyempre… puhunan talaga ‘yung boses especially sa field ko.”
So although she is not barred from eating sweets, or drinking cold or extremely hot beverages (“kasi nakaka-dry din ‘yun ng voice,” she noted), Julie Anne makes it a point to impose self-discipline.
“Tapos [I take] vitamins a lot, a lot of rest, and a lot of water,” she added.
The “Popstar Kids” finalist acknowledges that she has a long way to go in the industry she’s in, and for her journey to the top, “I have to give my best shot sa lahat talaga ng ginagawa and I always stay inspired.”
“Sa una mahirap talaga kasi lahat dadaanan mo muna... Hindi puwedeng pa-easy-easy lang. So siyempre kailangan mo talaga gawin lahat ng makakaya para maabot mo ‘yung mga pangarap mo,” she said.
Julie Anne performed “Super Bass” and Jessie J’s “Price Tag” at the Schick event last Saturday, where the new Ultimate Schick Male and Female were crowned. The winning pair (Mark Neil Luz and Camille Ladao), who will also serve as Schick’s brand ambassadors, was selected by a handful of judges out of the 20 finalists from over a hundred nominations from various schools.
The project was part of Schick’s “Shave for a Cause” advocacy, with the GMA Kapuso Foundation as partner. It was also announced that same night that the proceeds from the advocacy will go to a beneficiary of the foundation, which was featured on the “Kapusong Totoo” segment of GMA-7’s “24 Oras.”
It’s still high noon for the TV industry in the Philippines, but the boom of YouTube is starting to provide stiff competition for Filipino eyeballs. Our highly subjective choices for top viral videos of 2011 were the ones people we know were talking about and enjoyed.
Nikki Minaj’s Super Bass renditions
Nikki Minaj’s Super Bass pounded everyone’s eardrums in the last quarter of 2011. Like other hit songs, this prompted covers, including a rendition done by GMA music artist Julie Ann San Jose, which already had close to 12 million views in early December since it was uploaded in July.
One blink and it's new year: Welcome our 12 for 2012 (SUPREMO By Tim Yap (The Philippine Star) Updated December 31, 2011)
Julie Anne San Jose
Don’t know who she is? Check out YouTube right now and you’ll see that millions of viewers do. In fact her Superbass cover has one of the highest clicks, not to mention her onstage chemistry with hottie Elmo Magalona. Performance-wise, I dare say that Julie Anne is the most talented singer this side of television. Given the right breaks a movie and an album is in the works she can reach megastar levels of stardom. GMA, your move.
The release of her very own album was a reality waiting to happen for Kapuso pop superstar and internet musical sensation Julie Anne San Jose.
After building a credible reputation as a child singer trained by some of the country’s best mentors, Julie Anne emerged from the crowd quite distinctly by virtue of sheer talent. Her success on the internet, with a single Youtube music video of hers registering close to 14 million hits already (a cover of Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass”), makes her evidently the local artist to watch out for. Julie Anne is definitely someone who showcases what it takes to be pitted against the best of international talents.
Julie Anne’s first ever solo album will be set in motion very soon as she has signed an exclusive recording contract with GMA Records, the recording and digital media distribution arm of media giant GMA Network, Inc.
The contract-signing and press conference was held at the GMA Network Center on Monday (Feb. 20). Julie Anne is set to launch her first album under GMA Records in the middle of this year.
Although her first TV appearance was when she joined Eat Bulaga’s “Little Miss Philippines” contest when she was three years old, Julie Anne launched her professional singing career in 2005 as a member of the teenage singing group “Sugar Pop.” The group was a mainstay in the now defunct Sunday noontime musical variety show “S.O.P.” Having found her niche, she went on as a solo artist under the management of the GMA Artist Center, the talent development and management department of the Kapuso Network.
Julie Anne is seen every Sunday in the musical variety show Party Pilipinas on GMA-7. She will also top-bill the teen romance movie “Just One Summer” with fellow Tween star Elmo Magalona, which will be shown in nationwide theaters in the second quarter of the year.
Team Manila x My Japs (by Melanie Santiago, Intern / March 30, 2012)
Take an actress-slash-pop singing sensation and a graphic design studio company such as Team Manila, and what do you get? A fusion of youthful style!
Julie Anne San Jose, or Japs as she's famously known for, is a contract artist of GMA who appeared on screen as young as three years old when she joined Little Miss Philippines. Her career began to pick up in 2005 when she competed in Popstar Kids and was one of the top five finalists. From then on, she has appeared on several shows including Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan, SOP, and Party Pilipinas. You probably know her as Elmo Magalona's leading lady and the other half of the Julielmo loveteam.
Who knew this talented Filipina actress and singer who can also play the drums, piano, guitar, flute, lyre, keyboard and xylophone, could also design clothes? Talk about a true slashie, right?
The launch of the new collaboration of Team Manila Lifestyle with Julie Anne last March 28, 2012 at the Hard Rock Café gave Candy a sneak peek at the designs.
The collaboration resulted in the My Japs Collection that exudes the star's bubbly and fun-loving attitude. But get this, the proceeds of the collection go to the cancer patients of the Philippine Children's Medical Center which really is all about spreading the love!
Julie admits that she's more of a t-shirt-and-jeans kind of gal and that she wears a lot of orange, which explains the abundance of orange in her designs for the My Japs Collection. The collection is also a means for her to give back to her supporters and fans, which is kind of like a "token of appreciation" for their undying support.
We also got to ask her about her upcoming movie with Elmo Magalona. We asked what her favorite scenes to shoot in Just One Summer were and she answered, "our scenes together!" So kilig! But the actress refused to spill any deets and encouraged us to watch the movie instead. Rating the movie on the kilig meter, Japs gave it a perfect 10!
So stay tuned for her movie if you want more of the JuliElmo love. And be sure to check out the My Japs Collection, which will be available in all Team Manila stores nationwide this April.
If other networks launched searches to find a new female pop surperstar, GMA7 may not need those contests anymore
to find their own, as she is already making noise lately, its someone in the name of Julie Anne San Jose.
Julie Anne is been singing in the business since she was a kid, but its just recently when fans had became interested at
her, and rightnow she's probably one of the main attraction in Party Pilipinas,
she might be the youngest female singer on the top musical vareity show but she had prove that she could sing with the
senior performers. She's also being paired with Elmo Magalona as a singing tandem popularly known to fans as JuliElmo,
and the two really draw alot of screaming fans everytime they perform.
Julie Anne's followers had incredibly growing and I guess even she would be surprised, GMA is sure aware of this and we
wonder if theres any plans to test her popularity further, like a launching album maybe, but anyway making her limitted in
Party Pilipinas also make us thrilled more and not to endulged to her.
The bottom line is this Julie Anne is definitely on her way to stardom, and no doubt the "Most Promising Female Singer Of Her Generation.
I know this was stated before but yet again I would say it again Julie Anne San Jose is the Party Pilipinas' best asset much like Sarah Geronimo on ASAP.
I do respect other talented singers on the show but Julie is far the most popular performer today and I can't recall any other Kapuso singer that generated this such heat before.
She's a regular topic on social media, forums and threads, just how many fanblogs out there that are dedictated for her? creating fanfictions, musicvideos, photoalbums, all other kinds of media graffittis, she's so addictive that you would always watch her performances on YouTube or listen to her song covers on Soundcloud over and over again.
Who would not fall in love to her she's Pretty, Talented, and most of all Grateful to her fans,
yes I know there is about 19 people in the world who dislikes her and making bitter comments (hell do I think she cares) yet that also proves she really gains attention.
Last year alot had predicted and said that she is a "Should Watch Out For" this year and she does not disappoint she did step up this year, with millions of views on YouTube, concerts and liveshows, toprating tvshows, winning awards and recognitions its like everything she touches turns into gold, and with all her success this year her fans are couldnt be more exited in what does she stores for the near future? or should rather what does the future stores for her?
Next Year will be a crucial year for Julie Anne its when she will and should do things that will validate her career,
GMA Films is said to be producing her first starring movie with Elmo Magalona (though I still have critism about its build-up), and finally releasing her much anticipated debut solo album (hope its not overdelayed like they did on Frencheska), further more I also want to see her headline her solo concert, I think this shall prove what she is today and decide what she will be on the future.
But whatever the future brings or whereever it takes Julie Anne I think she will be in openarms to accept it afterall everything has not been overnight for her, I've seen her fail before and had a slow and seem going nowhere career but still work hard to achieve her dream, for her solid fans I think that itself validates what she is.
As a year 2012 started as Julie Anne’s career begins climbing the ladder of success. It’s been a long journey for her before achieving this fame she’s experiencing now. She faced many challenges and often felt being set aside but despite that she never stops reaching her goals and continue walking in the tunnel where she sees the light at the end. Years ago, she accepted all the consequences and trials as she entered the world where she is right now. In spite of her perseverance for her work, it seems like it isn’t enough to be recognized by people surround her.
Today, she’s starting to gain all the products of her sacrifices and hard work.
A girl, who has always been described by many as humble, God-fearing, pretty, talented and fun to be with, truly deserves all the blessings she’s gaining right now.
“Boy you got my heartbeat runnin’ away! Beating like a drum and it’s coming your way.. Can’t you hear that boom badoom boom boom badoom bass, she got that Super Bass!”
Her amber energy with her charming face led her to fame and got people’s heartbeat runnin’ away! Super Bass is just one example of her outstanding video covers on YouTube that reached millions of views. Dope, she really got that Super Bass! But who could tell that she could offer more than that? Yes, she has more than that Super Bass! People left in awe when they’ve heard her rapping skills with Nicki Minaj’s song, but could you imagine our reaction as she did a cover of the song “Look At Me Now”? That’s one of those things I like about her, she’s always willing to go the extra mile. Every performance is always more than the best of yesterdays. Level-up! The sky’s the limit!
And it’s the beginning of her fame, true fame. She gained a lot of followers, VERY SUPPORTIVE followers. Despite blessings and how fortunate she is right now, she never feels and looks haughty. Julie Anne assures that her fans would feel that they’re special and important to her. She always give time to do cover songs to dedicate to her fans and serves as a token for their everlasting support.
“You’re the one I love.. You’re the one I love love.. First it was nothing, now I’m catching feelings, something’s over me. You captured my attention and answered all my questions on what love is supposed to be..”
“You are my dream, you are my hope, you are my love, oh baby you are my heart.. I want you to know and let it show that I'm in love.. Every time I see you near I wanna be close to you but how can it be.. Cause I know it's impossible to make it happen.. But still, you are.. Baby, you are.”
With these few lines of her own compositions, would you believe that she once called herself as a frustrated composer? Humility strikes again! Reason why people like her so much, she’s a very down to earth girl.
After becoming a full blown performer, she’s now entering in different crafts like acting and composing songs to be offered to her fans.
She is a truly talented lady who stopped people in amazement and get lot of sponsors and endorsements.
“I would like to be known as a singer. ‘Yung acting for me is just a bonus. I want to be known by my own music.” (from her Pinoy Mag interview)
Reaching all her goals are going to be a long row to hoe, but with her talents and good heart, it’s possible to be sooner, definitely will happen sooner!*
