Nice move, with the addition of Freeman, Barako Bull seems a contender now, and if they can make it to the semis, I guess they have a chance against the powerhouse TNT...
Barako Bull is the real San Miguel...

Lassiter Trade To Petron Pushed
Powerade rookie star Marcio Lassiter is again on the trading block with Petron amending its offer in a determined bid to get the Fil-American player who played a major role in the Tigers’ run to the finals two conferences ago.
Petron’s first offer to get Lassiter was rejected by the PBA Commissioner’s Office apprently because the deal was too favorable for the Blazers who offered two players far below the caliber of Lassiter.
In the amended offer, a person with knowledge of the deal said yesterday that the Boosters were willing to exchange sophomore forwards Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Rey Guevara to get Lassiter, the 6-foot-2 forward who was selected No. 4 overall by the Tigers in the last PBA Rookie Draft.
Al-Hussaini, who was drafted second overall by Air21 two years ago, has played just once since being injured when he tore his ACL before the finals of the Governors’ Cup last year. He did not play the entire All-Filipino conference.
He played for only four games this conference, including against Talk ‘N Text where he played for about 10 minutes.
"Actually, it’s already a done deal, but there’s no paper yet. But it will be forwarded soon to the Commissioner’s Office" said the source who asked not to be named as he is not authorized to discuss team dealings.
"It will push through because the two teams already agreed. It was only vetoed by the Commissioner, and asked that they amend it," the source added.
The first proposed trade between the two teams was for Lassiter joining the powerhouse team of Petron. In return, Powerade will get Guevara and fellow sophomore Noy Baclao, the No. 1 pick in the 2010 Rookie Draft.
The trade, however, was rejected last month by PBA chief Chito Salud.
Lassiter played a big part on Powerade’s playoff run in the previous Philippine Cup, where the Tigers went all the way to the Finals as the eighth seeded team, knocking out No. 1 B-Meg and then downed Rain or Shine in Game 7 of their semifinal series.
Both Petron and Powerade were eliminated in the playoffs of the ongoing Commissioner’s Cup, finishing with similar 4-5 records.
say bye bye to lassiter joining smart gilas II
ENERGY GO FOR SERIES CLINCHER WITH FREEMAN IN TOW
Published on April 3, 2012
Emerging triumphant though playing all-Filipino three-fourths of the way Sunday, Barako Bull has got
some leeway to gamble on things.
Using Reggie Okosa for only 11 minutes in his PBA debut, the Energy on Tuesday decided to ditch him
for good, bringing in PBA old hand Gabe Freeman as his replacement.
Freeman hooks up with the Energy as they go for the kill versus the Alaska Milk Aces in their PBA
Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals showdown at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night.
Freeman is likely to stay on as Barako Bull’s import in the season-ending Governors Cup where the
height limit for reinforcements is six feet and five inches. - wth... i thought he is over 6'5". Why will freeman stay until Governor's Cup??If ever he is allowed do we still have the right of first refusal or did we lost it by allowing BB to get his services now?
A player from a small Arizona community college, Freeman took the PBA by storm in 2009, winning the
Best Import award and leading the San Miguel Beermen to the Fiesta Cup crown.
He was to arrive from the US Monday night, reuniting with former San Miguel teammates Danny Seigle,
Dorian Pena and Mick Pennisi at Barako.
The Energy settled for Freeman as Rodney White opted not to return. White rushed home to the US
after the elimination round to attend to his ailing father.
“We will play hard to close out the series. We are sure Alaska will play with all its energy in a
do-or-die game. We will approach the game as do-or-die for us likewise,” said Junel Baculi.
Barako Bull’s old warriors displayed their old dependable forms and the Energy survived playing
without an import for three quarters, topping the Alaska Milk Aces, 103-90, in the series opener.
Seigle and the other grizzled Barako veterans pulled a solid game together, overcoming early
14-point deficits and winning with plenty to spare despite getting hardly anything from Okosa.
“Credit belongs to our veterans. Before the game, I just reminded them that it’s playoff time,
and it’s time for them to shine. They did,” said Baculi.
“All I needed to do was to remind them because they’re veterans. They’ve been there; they’ve
done that. They’re not in good hands; I’m the one in good hands,” Baculi also said.
Okosa hardly helped as he went scoreless with a 0-of-7 shooting in 11 minutes of action.
He was the first import to fail to score a single basket in a game since Magnolia’s Ama McCaskill
in the 2008 Fiesta Conference.
Alaska coach Joel Banal said they have to make the right adjustments in practice and on the course
of the game if they’re to force a rubber match.
He said lapses did them in Sunday.
“We committed a lot of mistakes. Barako is a veteran team, and you can’t afford to commit so
much errors against them,” said Banal. (SB) - www.pba.com.ph
If Freeman is allowed to play next conference with Red Bull, that will be a big blow to Petron. Petron's management have been making bad decisions the past months. Palitan na ang mga yan!!!
yeah, the writer on the pba website was just making assumptions without checking his facts, many people know freeman is over the height limit for next conference, even noli eala said so
^^
what if freeman's measurement today is exactly 6'5"? Will we lose our right of first refusal?
^pag returning imports alam ko wala ng re-measurement
^there is a remeasurement of returning imports.
http://www.pba.ph/blogs/entry/180
MEASUREMENT OF IMPORTS
1. All imports playing in import-laced conferences with set height limits shall be measured before
they are allowed to play. Imports who have been previously measured will also undergo remeasurement.
2. Height measurement shall be conducted at the PBA Office from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. during
weekdays.
3. Written notice must be sent to the Technical Group regarding a request for measurement at least
24 hours prior to the time of measurement.
4. Upon receipt of this notice, all teams shall be notified and encouraged to send their
representatives to observe the proceedings.
Measurement procedure:
1. A special measuring bench at the PBA Office shall be used for this purpose.
2. The import shall lay flat on his back on this bench barefooted.
3. The Technical Group personnel conducting the measurement shall make sure that both back of the
knees, shoulder blades and the head are firmly resting on said bench. The head must be in a straight
up position, not tucked in or raised up.
4. The import shall then be measured accordingly from the top of the head to the tip of his heels.
5. Any team representative present can request for a remeasurement. The procedure above shall then
be repeated and the second measurement shall be considered final and official. Only one request for
remeasurement shall be allowed. If there is no request for a remeasurement from any of the team
representatives present, then the first measurement will be considered final and official.
6. Any fraction over the allowed height limit shall be considered as a failure to meet the height
limit requirement.
SMC is returning the favor to Barako for being their farm team since forever.
Pero if ever lumiit si Freeman down to 6'5, yari ang Petron Blaze next conference.
damn Gabe Freeman is playing well and is in tip top shape.
Freeman has really improved his outside shooting, alala ko pa dati yung first three niya sa PBA sa Finals pa vs BGK, tuwang tuwa siya.![]()
