I've just finished reading the Hunger Games Trilogy, and I am excited for Johanna Mason and Finnick Odair character. It's such a disappointment that Gary Ross pulls out of the franchise.

If they're not going for Armie Hammer, then they better be looking for some unknowns. I really don't like Kitch's acting.

Taylor Kitsch: I'm not playing Finnick in 'Catching Fire'

With casting for the second installment of "The Hunger Games" franchise underway, fans of the dystopian sci-fi series have been breathlessly debating who will play an integral character in "Catching Fire."

Finnick Odair, described by author Suzanne Collins as an Adonis-like womanizer, first appears in "Catching Fire" and has a complex relationship with heroine Katniss Everdeen. So admirers of the series were thrown into a tizzy this week when E! News reported that filmmakers had narrowed down the casting to three heartthrobs: Taylor Kitsch, Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund.

But you can knock one of those dreamboats off the list, because Kitsch says he won't be joining the cast of the mega-successful film series.

"Not going to happen," the 31-year-old actor wrote in an email on Wednesday. Kitsch, who is coming off the poor box office performance of the big-budget films "John Carter" and "Battleship," would seem to have fit the bill for the athletic, good-looking character.

As for "The Lone Ranger" star Hammer and "TRON: Legacy" lead Hedlund, the studio behind the franchise, Lionsgate, said it would not confirm, deny or comment on any casting in progress.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to be filmed in Atlanta

“The Hunger Games” sequel will film in the Atlanta area this summer through winter, according to a well-placed source with direct knowledge of the project.

“Catching Fire,” the second of the Hunger Games trilogy, will film July through December in metro Atlanta and beyond, our source says.

Movie and entertainment sites such as MTV.com have avidly been discussing who might be joining lead actress Jennifer Lawrence in the next movie to be adapted from Suzanne Collins’ phenomenally best selling young adult novels, with names like Taylor Kitsch, Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund being bandied about and “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson dismissing rumors that he had signed on.

The first “Hunger Games” movie, which set the box office afire like Katniss’ flaming chariot, was filmed in North Carolina. Members of the cast visited Atlanta just prior to the movie’s much anticipated release.

'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire': Philip Seymour Hoffman offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee

While rampant speculation on who is or is not in the running for the role of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire continues to set the Internet ablaze, producers have reportedly made their first offer for another pivotal role in the sequel.

According to multiple reports, Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman has been asked to play Plutarch Heavensbee, the new Gamemaker at the Capitol after Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley) was creatively executed at the end of The Hunger Games. Plutarch is a far savvier political animal than his predecessor, and he plays a crucial role in the events of Catching Fire.

Hoffman just ended a widely acclaimed run playing Willy Loman in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman on Broadway, so why not take the summer off and then hop onto one of the biggest movie franchises in Hollywood? Should the deal go through, it will be the first major new role cast in Catching Fire. Director Francis Lawrence is due to begin shooting the film later this fall. Lionsgate had no comment.
