UP secures commitment from RP Youth point guard Henry Asilum

Who is this kid and why is he getting the attention of the media?

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons have secured a commitment from Energen Pilipinas National Team member Henry Asilum, as the squad looks to improve on their near-bottom place in the standings in recent UAAP men’s seniors division basketball tournaments.

UP head coach Ricky Dandan flew out to Cebu last Saturday and left with the point guard’s commitment, according to the two parties’ Twitter sites.

“In and out of Cebu today to clinch a recruit for the Maroons #hecticday,” tweeted Dandan on Saturday.

Then on Sunday, Dandan tweeted again, “Recruit committed, got to make a roster decision very soon #Mindstrong.”

In-between, Asilum responded to inquiries from a Twitter contact, confirming that he was in fact the recruit Dandan was talking about, and that he had been promised a spot in UP’s Team A.

Nice. Now, that they have a "Ronnie Magsanoc" for the next season. All they need is a "Benjie Paras". Then, maybe... they can bring back the trophy to Diliman where they last held it in '86.

Sana hindi mag-ala-Silungan si Asilum at maka-adjust agad sa college basketball.

Sasali ba ang Pinas sa 2012 U18 FIBA Asia Championships sa Mongolia? then August. If yes then those U16 Players that competed in Vietnam will be the core kasama na siya.

How many playing years does Mbah have? I think UP has two foreign recruits, a 6'8 guy Victor who has a soft touch from the perimeter and a 6'4 guy Joel who can run the floor with ease..But the coaches must be carefull in conditioning them, hindi pa kasi malaki body built nila so dapat proper training talaga build their body wiithout losing their speed and agility. Karim of UST use to have speed and good perimeter shooting that extends well to the arch, pero nawala yun. Also UP must know how to keep their recruits mahirap na baka mawala sayang naman...I'm looking forward to this team na mabuo, for how many years wala sila sa final 4. I looking at 2014 for UP harvest the fruits..

^so that is the name of the two CAMEROONIAN Jewels that was mentioned in gameface.ph at the Oblation Nation thread.

Mbah? Baka two years lang not sure.

Regarding Asilum do anyone know his real height?

Around 5-7 to 5-9 daw ang batang ito. Hope he do well in the upcoming FilOil Flying V tournament (start is on April 14).

Bahala na yung FilOil basta sa UAAP mag Final 4. Minsan kasi ang galing ng UP sa preseason tulad ng naging contender sila sa PBL tapos naging olats sa UAAP.

UP has an over supply of not just guards but VETERAN guards (Gamboa, Mikee Reyes, Lopez, Gingerich) what they need to become competitive are bigmen -- PFs and Centers! ..

Malaki ang potential niya. Basta enough playing time at proper guidance. Huwag sana siya matulad kay Joshua Saret na bigla na lang naglaho sa picture.

I just don't see how another guard will fit in with UP. Unless he is an absolute stud.

Hope he could easily blend well with the team and would have no problem in adjusting to college basketball.
