    let me add on this:

I rarely visit aktv's website, but their articles as far as PBA is concerned is consistently updated. so eto siguro ang edge ng NCAA when it comes to modern technology like the internet (and use of social media). other than that, UAAP pa rin by a mile.

but of course, in order to have consistent updates of the UAAP on the net all season long, UAAP and ABS-CBN must create a team to do updates on the net every time.

And one more thing, napakarami pong nagreklamong pba fans yung nasa s23 ang PBA dahil laging delay yung coverage nila dahil kuha ng kuha ang rights ng ibang sports ang abs-cbn na hindi man lang nila inaayos ang scheduling. Yun din ang problem ng NCAA sa S23.
of course, mas priority ng studio 23 ang NCAA/UAAP because block timer lang yung PBA nung lumipat sila from Solar TV. kaya may mga delay yung ibang laro ng PBA na natamaan ng scheduling ng NCAA/UAAP.

Of course, die hard fans of uaap games would tune in to the will be second fiddle players in basketball TV station, Studio 23.

so meaning the PBA will also help popularize the NCAA? kahit lumipat na ang NCAA sa AKTV as its coveror, it's the same old story again when it comes to audience vieweship, but who knows. Good luck again to AKTV to expose the NCAA more to more Filipinos.

NCAA will play some games in the provinces because it creates excitement, awareness, and it will introduce the league and its member schools to them and hopefully it will help create loyal fans who will continuously watch them on AKTV. It seems to work with the PBA and it seems to work with other very successful TV shows like Eat Bulaga, that reaching out to your viewers not just in Manila but also in far away places like the provinces. If the NCAA is successful in their goal, I don't see why the uaap wouldn't do the same thing IF that will be their goal too. If they just want to reach out to their own community in Manila, then they don't have to do anything anymore since they are already successful with that.

mukhang mahirap itong concept na ito. remember yung naging guest team na Holy Angel University of Angeles City? a couple of seasons ago? (correct me if I'm wrong) they travelled 3 hours going to Manila and another 3 hours back to Angeles just to play in the NCAA? the concern here is the study time ng mga varisty players as well. also, the TV station like IBC must have broader audience to see them play.
    my comment in bold.

Napag-uusapan naman ang NCAA basketball kahit paano ng mga taga UAAP.. kadalasan ganito ang takbo ng usapan:

boy 1: "napanood mo ba ENSI kahapon?"
boy 2: "oo par.. finals na beda nanaman pumasok"
    boy 1: "talaga.. saan ginanap?"
    boy 2: "Sa Arena par"
    boy 1: "puno ba?"
boy 2: "yung san beda side muntik na mapuno"
    boy 1: "-___-"

    Definition of IRREGARDLESS

    nonstandard
    : regardless
    Usage Discussion of IRREGARDLESS

Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

    Wide open NCAA opens Saturday
    By Cedelf P. Tupas
    Philippine Daily Inquirer
    10:22 pm | Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

    GAMES SATURDAY
    (Smart Araneta Coliseum)
    4 p.m.—Opening ceremony
    5 p.m.—Letran vs San Sebastian
    7 p.m.—Jose Rizal vs Mapua

WITH defending champion San Beda crippled by a suspension on its key players in its first four games and teams strengthening rosters, a wide open title race looms in the 88th NCAA basketball tournament starting this Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Host Letran, with a near intact roster from last season, clashes with San Sebastian in the inaugural game of the season after a colorful opening ceremony that will highlight the Intramuros-based school’s history and achievements in the league at 4 p.m.

The duel between Jose Rizal U and Mapua completes the opening double-header which also marks the start of the country’s oldest collegiate league’s switch from ABS-CBN to TV5 sports channel AKTV.

“Our games will be given primetime exposure this season and that I think will motivate our teams to really show their mettle,” said NCAA Policy Board president Tamerlane Lana at the press conference launching the league’s 88th season at the Gateway Suites.

San Beda, seeking a third crown under new coach Ronnie Magsanoc, won’t be playing until Sunday when the Lions face the Arellano Chiefs with only six players—mostly third stringers—eligible to play.

The nine other players in the San Beda squad have been suspended for their role in the melee during a women’s NCAA volleyball match at the San Beda Gym last December.

The stiffest sanction was meted on Nigerian center Ola Adeogun, whose six-game ban was reduced to four by the NCAA Policy Board yesterday after an appeal from San Beda.

The incident that also led to suspensions on fighting coaches Roger Gorayeb and Frankie Lim stemmed from Adeogun complaining of what he said were racial slurs from the San Sebastian volleyball team, triggering the melee while an NCAA women’s volleyball game was being played.

San Beda and San Sebastian have been favorites the past three years, but with the Lions’ preseason woes and some teams remaining intact, the coaches believe this season’s tournament can be one of the most balanced in recent years.

“This is going to be a very competitive season,” said Letran coach Louie Alas, whose team would have to deal with the San Sebastian trio of last season’s Most Valuable Player Calvin Abueva, big man Ian Sangalang and Ronald Pascual in the first game of the season.

“Even those teams at the bottom from last season have a good chance,” said new Perpetual Help coach Aric Del Rosario, who is coming out of a long coaching hiatus to call the shots for the Altas.

    One Game At A Time
No rivalry between UAAP and NCAA
    By Sev Sarmenta
    Philippine Daily Inquirer
    12:20 am | Friday, June 22nd, 2012

The collegiate athletic season is upon us.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) will open its basketball tournament this weekend while the Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) starts its own tournament on July 14.

It will be interesting how the supposedly rival leagues will market their players and tournament, especially now that the NCAA is with AKTV and the UAAP remains with ABS-CBN. The pitches will be interesting contrasts of how to say the same thing since both leagues cater to students, school communities and basketball fans in general.

There is actually no rivalry between the two because they reach out to specific school communities.

UAAP students will be naturally keen on what happens in their own league while the NCAA crowd will focus primarily on their own affairs.

This is the strength of each league which has stood in the path of any attempt to bring these two leagues together for one common tournament representative of Metro Manila college basketball.

The interesting battleground might be the social networks where Facebook and Twitter should be alive with comments and counter-comments from students and alumni. This could be an interesting indicator of how popular one league is by checking how lively a league social network is.

The competition for interest will be really for basketball fans in general. The UAAP schools have larger student and alumni populations and therefore could have bigger TV audiences. On the other hand, the NCAA may have smaller school communities but they are by no means less passionate than the UAAP.

Traditional rivalries maybe a little more intense in the NCAA with the San Beda-Letran matches or the San Sebastian-Letran or San Beda duels.

Even if fans have no connection with a school in either the UAAP or the NCAA, they will peek into the games at the coliseum or on television if the competition is at a high level.

Many elimination round games between lower seeded teams or those featuring the elite squads against the also-rans may not have audiences beyond the alumni of the schools. The interest will change once the playoffs kick in or when traditional rivalries like La Salle-Ateneo play out on TV.

The key maybe is for both leagues to market their players as interesting student-athletes. Their athletic performances will speak for themselves but audiences of all kinds will appreciate stories about the players.

The television production realities of today—tight airtime and the high cost of producing features—have restricted more profiles or stories about the players.

However, the smallest anecdote or vignette told by the sportscasters or flashed as a graphic will help spike interest in the performers of both leagues.

So here we go again with another collegiate hoop season. Enjoy. Cheer for the old alma mater. Bring out the pompoms and the school colors. Defend school pride with honor. Bring friends to the games, or if there are no more tickets, have a barkada party with lots of snacks and cheer like crazy in front of the TV. Don’t worry, let it all hang out. You’re among classmates and friends.

Bawal na bang banggitin ng mga PBA Commentators ang UAAP Schools na pinanggalingan ng mga PBA Players?

Kasi AKTV is airing the NCAA and the PBA under the same station.

Why would they mention UAAP Schools, which will air on a rival station at the same time as the NCAA?

    Just crossed my mind..

Random thought: a DLSU vs ADMU game on any given day, moreso a finals match up, will probably rake in more sponsors, revenue and media coverage than the whole NCAA season altogether.

When you think hard about it, it doesn't seem to be a random thought after all.

But in any case, why think about the other league when you're school isn't in it. So I think my opinion just cancels itself out. Okay, I'm blabbering. Never mind.

Yan ang hirap sa local networks natin, puro na lang exclusivity. In the US, Sports Networks share each other's content and footage kaya mga news programs nila very comprehensive kasi they feature all the events with matching footage. Dito kasi, networks only report the sporting events that they ONLY cover. Kaswapangan talaga.
