    Pilipinas/Pilipino: Walang Kultura

Adobo, pansit, lumpia, lechon, Pacquiao, Charice, and mail-order brides?

siguro kasi were not as Asian as our neighbours, like di tayo gumagamit ng chop sticks, wala tayong mga pagodas or asian temples, yung religious practices natin iba,

we're colonized kasi, kaya nawala yung storng Asian influence, pero we've kept naman what had become of our culture,

na preserve natin yung century old churches and schools natin, we have monthly festivals and fiestas, we solemnly celebrate our religious practices like Holy Week, All Saints day and Christmas,

I think I prefer ours than our neighbours culture.

kung to please lang yung foreigners na, di na tayo authentic like our asian neighbours, I dont care what they think.

my gosh.. i just hope you are not another example of a filipino who believes in anything a non-filipino says.

  22. #14
Let's take Christianity for example. Christianity was brought to us by the Spaniards. But do you think our Christianity here is the same with the one in Spain? Of course not. Undeniably, our culture is greatly influenced by other cultures, because remember, our country's history consists of a history of resisting invasions- from the Spanish to the Americans to the Japanese.

And not only the influences our colonizers have on us.

now that you mentioned Christianity and having our own flavor, di ba may ati-atihan tayo kapag fiesta or senakulo? hindi ba kultura yang tradisyong ginagawa natin? yung simbang gabi, na ginagawa sa madaling araw kultura din yan ah.

If you will ask foreigners what they think of the Philippines they should say beaches, nice sceneries.. but what about the people and culture??? They are clueless.. When you say Thailand, they will think of golden temples, golden costumes, floating market, cultural dances, religious ceremonies.. Korea - Korean temples, yin-yang etc etc.. and so on and so forth....

    But what do we have????

This is my reply to him...

    1. The Philippines is actually young, our "official" history started 16th century.. compared to Thailand, China, Cambodia etc.... which they had early civilization
    2. We are colonized by Spaniards while the Philippines "then" was disintegrated.
    3. We are composed of 7000+ islands, we dont have a centralized culture.. each island/tribe has a culture or tradition of its own. This makes it difficult to integrate a whole nation. It is only in the early 1900s even that we had our official langauge at least.
    4. Filipinos were brainwashed to make us believe that being westernized is the best that we could be.

When I was asked.. "What is the trademark of the Philippines?"
I said.. hmm... "Rizal Monument, beaches, Manny Pacquiao, Charice Pempengco.. Shamcey Supsup.." hehe joke

    Ano culture nila..

Well a lot actually.. they have intensive religious festivals (I witnessed how they celebrate Christmas and Easter, very traditional they wore costumes). They also have ceremonies preparing foods for the feasts, they dance and play native instruments during grape harvest. I saw their not so colorful costumes (mostly white) while performing folk dances. Their "modern" music still sounds traditional... atbp

Ipinagmalaki ko ang festivities natin during holy week, but they deep inside alam ko at alam nyo din na pawala na ang practices natin during holy week.. Aminin nyo.....

Lahat naman ng bansa may kultura,, pero meron ba tayong kultura o vision in mind lang naman about the Philippines at Filipinos na tumatak sa isip ng mga foreigners...

When they think of the Philippines, what do they think of?
