maganda yan if they can assure us na wala nang mangyayaring brawl katulad nung nangyari sa baste & sbc last december. tipid yan lalo sa mga magkakatabing schools. yun nga lang, not all schools have a descent gym that can accommodate all the spectators. siguro maganda yung Home & Away format kapag weekdays yung games tapos kapag weekends dun na tayo sa SM MOA ARENA or sa Big Dome.

it looks like our suggestions are being heard and considered

Battle of networks, school leagues looms next season

MANILA, Philippines - The NCAA is clashing head-on with the UAAP as the former decided to hold its basketball games the same days as that of the latter on a new television partner in TV5 through its sports channel AKTV on IBC 13.

“We’ll be holding our games on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and we’re planning to add a game or two on a Sunday or just before the PBA games,” said new Management Committee chair Fr. Vic Calvo, OP, of Season 88 host Letran in yesterday’s turnover ceremony at the Muralla campus in Intramuros.

The NCAA has ended its decade-long partnership with ABS-CBN’s Studio 23 and will forge a three-year contract with AKTV on IBC 13 as its new TV coveror.

Aside from that, Calvo said they’re planning to hold out-of-town games this year and at venues owned by the members’ sister schools in the provinces to widen its fan base.

“Yes, we’re planning to do that because we want to live up and be true to our league name by going really national,” said Calvo. “By doing that, we will also have a chance to reach out to our alumni and supporters in the provinces.”

Meanwhile, league president and Letran rector-president Fr. Tamerlane Lana, OP, officially accepted the Season 88 hosting from Dr. Anthony Tamayo of last year’s Season 87 host Perpetual Help in simple rites at Letran’s St. Thomas’ Building.

“The coming NCAA season promises to be an exciting one,” said Lana, who also congratulated Tamayo for a job well done in hosting last year’s events.

Letran, which last hosted the league nine years ago, is using theme “Celebrate 88: Conquering New Glories,” underscoring the league’s move to compete with the UAAP in game days and viewership.

“Letran will definitely tread new frontier for the premier league, we’re all set to give new glories to the NCAA,” said Calvo.

Pwede maging venues ang Laguna (for Letran and UPHSD), Cavite (for UPHSD, Lyceum ,EAC and San Sebastian), Rizal (for San Beda), AU, Mapua, CSB and JRU?? Manila base lang yata mga campus nila. Bataan din since may campus ang letran dun.

  5. #25
how are the facilities of those provincial campuses?

  6. #26

Nagiging venue nga for PBA games to eh.

  8. #28

Im so excited for the next season. Ayan tuloy! tsk.tsk

That venue was also used for the MBA games before involving the Batangas Blades. I've been there many times and the crowd support there is tremendous. Pati laro ng PBA, marami ang nanonood. I remember covering a Ginebra game there at sobrang daming tao.

Lyceum also has a campus in Batangas.

ABS kasi felt the UAAP and Azkals had more appeal to advertisers. Wala ring weekend games ang NCAA and there were a lot of Monday games last year that weren't televised, like that 3 OT game between JRU and Perpetual Help.

I remember, umiyak pa si Bianca Saldua (the Perpetual CSR) after the game ended. Maganda at classic talaga. Sayang hindi ito pinalabas.

The home-and-away format is not feasible. But the out-of-town games are very likely at pwede isabay sa out-of-town games ng PBA on Saturdays.

Aside from Batangas campus of La Salle/St. Benilde, the NCAA could go as far as La Salle Bacolod.

San Sebastian has its Cavite campus. Ang EAC mayrun din yata sa Cavite. Not sure though.

Then you have Letran in Calamba, Laguna and San Beda in Alabang.

But this is expensive. The cost of moving logistics in and out of Manila is expensive.

NCAA goes national na talaga. I remember last year ng PCCL games sa Ormoc its between ncaa teams san sebastian at letran.

They even described it as way way better than s23. Arellano has 6 campuses but all are manila based. The rest have their campuses outside MM.

Taga Lipa ka pala sir? Pwedeng pwede dyan sir.

To jump start their coverage, AKTV should make a teaser video similar to the FIBA 2010 World Basketball Championships in Turkey.

    "Giant Get-Together"
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gI45Q86oWBY

Sa AKTV version they could try Rome Dela Rosa dribbling thru Mendiola. Yousef Taha and Kevin Alas standing along the Intramuros wall. And Carlo Lastimosa crawling under LRT 1 at Taft Avenue.
