On Christmas day, the world got its first official glimpse of Channing Tatums Steven Soderbergh-directed film Magic Mike in a photo featuring Chan, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello, Matthew McConaughey, and Kevin Nash on the Xquisite stage performing their Fourth of July dance.
Now we have two new photos courtesy of the January 20th issue of Entertainment Weekly and new details via interviews from Chan and his castmate Matt Bomer.
For those who dont know, Magic Mike is a story of friendship set in the world of exotic male dancing and is inspired by (but not based on) Chans experiences at a Chippendales-style revue early in his career. Chan plays the main character (Mike), who mentors a young dancer (The Kid) played by Alex Pettyfer and teaches him the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money.
In a recent interview with Collider.com, Matt Bomer revealed more of the plot
Its actually a really intricate plot. Its very of a Saturday Night Fever/Boogie Nightsilk. Its a coming of age story. The central relationship in the film is Channing [Tatum] and Alex Pettyfers relationship. They play Mike and this character called The Kid. Its a mentorship type of thing. One person is unhappy with where he is and knows that theres a real ceiling to that lifestyle and that life, and one person is just getting into the whole glorious aspect of what it means to be a stripper.
Collider and PopSugar also interviewed Chan during last weeks Haywire press junket. Heres what he had to say about the tone of the film
All the stuff that actually happens in the movie is entirely fictitious and made up because we wanted to take liberties and we wanted to make it goodIts a fun movie; we wrote it to be fun. We actually wrote it very comedically and in knowing Soderberghs style, he doesnt punch in for close-ups and he doesnt shoot in a very classic comedic way, so I think, overall, it will make it fun. The stuff that is happening is kind of outlandish, the characters at times will be bizarre.
In addition to Chan, Alex, Joe, Kevin, Matt, and Matthew (who plays Dallas, a retired dancer and the owner of the club), the movie also stars Olivia Munn (Magic Mikes love interest), Adam Rodriguez, Gabriel Iglesias (the clubs DJ), Riley Keough, Cody Horn (Magic Mikes sister), Wendi McLendon-Covey, Bridesmaids actress Betsy Brandt and The Change-Up actress Mircea Monroe as the girlfriend of Matt Bomers character.
Magic Mike may be one of the most important projects in Chans career thus far. In addition to starring in the highly-anticipated movie, he also financed the film with Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh and is executive producing with his producing partner Reid Carolin (who also wrote the screenplay) via their production company, Iron Horse Productions, Nick Wechsler and Gregory Jacobs.
Not that I really need to convince anyone around here, BUT make sure you show your support when Magic Mike hits cinemas June 29, 2012!!!
Channing Tatum stripper film 'Magic Mike' has no full frontal nudity
Steven Soderbergh's stripper movie Magic Mike will not feature any full frontal male nudity, sources have claimed.
Stars such as Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey will not bare all in the upcoming picture according to E! News, but viewers could apparently witness "major skin" and a self-love scene featuring one of the cast in the finished cut.
"There is a lot of ***," an insider commented. "Channing is such a good dancer in it and Alex looks so good."
The source also insisted that Magic Mike will boast a solid storyline to go with the visuals, saying: "It does get dark at times. There's some major drama for Alex's character. It's not all pretty."
A teaser image showing Tatum, Pettyfer and McConaughey mid-routine was released in late December.
Magic Mike is based on Tatum's former career as a male stripper and sees his character Mike Martingano serve as a mentor to Pettyfer's rookie performer.
Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello and Olivia Munn also star in the film, which is due to open in US cinemas on June 29, 2012.
gosh may thread na pala siya. will watch this because of Channing T. and his body buti medyo nag slim down ulet siya. super buff niya sa The Vow at 21 Jump Street.
nakakaloka mukhang mas bida parin tignan si alex kesa kay channing hindi kasi talaga bagay sa kanya supporting role lang...pero hotty din naman si channing noh...
