Mababawasan na yung mga naka DSLR necklace sa Jollibee Kiddie parties.

Now if only Nokia gives away those huge "Nokia Pureview 41MP" phone lanyards that are as conspicuous as the Nikon camera straps....

Yup i think Nokia made it very clear that it's not the 41PM per se that matters (actually it's 38MP effectively). When taking photos, i do believe that the default and final MP will be 5MP; the phone takes photo first at the highest resolution then shrinks that to 5MP thereby getting the clearest photo with very little or no noise. I guess that is what they mean with the PureView technology. The value of 7pixels cramped into a pixel with the final output. You do however have the option to actually use the 41MP but you will also sacrifice precious megabytes of storage.

I'll use my iPhone which takes the same if not better pictures. Thanks.

So how large a file will a 5MP Pureview image be compared to an ordinary 5MP image which is more or less 1,000kb?

Sana nga mga P26K lang to, very reasonable na yun compared to other overpriced mobile phones.

Design: Sana pinattern na lang nila sa Lumia 900 para wala nang physical buttons.

on second thought papa bear, i guess itll be better with this separated, as i observed maraming nag aampalaya na bumibisita sa pureview

to tell you frankly bittters, 41mp will take probably 5 years if not more before apple or samsung can top this.

or they have better option like magbigay ulet sila, i mead magdagdag sila ng mga licensed patents na binabayaran nila sa nokia on a regular basis

Now, I want to see how the fanboys from Engadget and Gizmodo going to manipulate the results that shows their beloved, made from heaven iPhone 4s (or 5, 5s, 6, 6g, 7, 7sex... doesn't matter ) takes better picture than Nokia 808

I read it somewhere that it will be less than that since this isn't really a natural 5mp picture but a PureView 5mp picture. A full 38mp picture will take 6mb - 10mb based on Nokia's white paper

If it's JPEG then PureView 5MP shots should be the same as regular 5MP jpegs depending on compression quality, could be higher but not that much, JPEG don't go so big anyway.

At ang 5MP smartphone na ito eh ikinukumpara sa DSLR!!

DSLR agad hindi ba pwedeng Point & Shoot muna.

Hopefully this will get Nokia back in the game. After all, they revolutionized cellphones with the 7650 cameraphone. It's just fitting that they start another revolution.

    Is this technology patented?

IIRC, carl zeis owns the lens but nokia owns the technology, they thought out of the box, the way pureview works is different from a conventional camera, and yes nokia has patented it

took this conversation from gsmarena with DD, the Nokia Imaging Man hehehehe

GSMArena: Regarding the 41MP sensor, we were told that it was entirely Nokia technology.

    D.Dinning: We co-developed the sensor.

GSMArena: Any word on who else is involved?

    D. Dinning: Unfortunately, not at this time.

GSMArena: Are you going to share the technology?

    D.Dinning: No.

Actually the idea isn't new, my friend has been doing this for quite some time, taking the maximum resolution his camera can take and then resizing the picture to a smaller size. Instant results.

What Nokia did was embedding this idea automatically to every shot taken.

I wonder why other companies never thought of this.

    Love this paragraph...
"We rarely do interviews but the Nokia 808 is a real whopper. The sheer hype it generated yesterday almost took our site down for a moment. The camera enthusiast inside of us can't get enough of it either and Damian Dinning is the man to see to learn everything about this exciting new smartphone (and about cameraphones in general)."

i dont have any camera or imaging know how, sa sinasabi mo, parang ganyan but not quite, eto yung part ng interview about it.

GSMArena: If we only needed a 2MP image, for instance, we would traditionally take a full resolution shot, and then downsample it with Photoshop. Does PureView provide downsampling algorithms superior to those of Photoshop or other image editing software, effectively eliminating this step?

    D. Dinning: We haven't really made that comparison. What I can say is, depending on the interpolation and downsampling you use in Photoshop, it may be possible that you'll get similar performance. But you're then handling the JPG file that was saved, so you're probably better off doing it at point of capture. I think you'll find that we probably have a different balance to what you achieve with Photoshop. How we optimize the algorithms is to retain as much of the detail as possible that we think is represented in the object, but also filter as much of the noise as possible. In Photoshop, you typically might get a sharpness that looks higher, but you might get more noise, for example. We struck a slightly different balance when we use our algorithms.

GSMArena: So PureView technology essentially allows you to skip shooting in full resolution and relying on post-cropping on a computer, saving yourself from filling your memory card with large files?

D.Dinning: Yes, you won't get any benefit by shooting in full resolution and downsizing on a computer, other than the flexibility of being able to crop whatever portions of the image you like later.

GSMArena: Tell us more about the companion chip in the camera. Is it a first for Nokia? Is it being done elsewhere?

    D. Dinning: As far as I know, the way of doing it this way is unique to us. The companion chip takes the information directly from the sensor and scales it, before that data goes to the GPU. The GPU has less load because of this scaling chip. What that means in practice is that in video we are able to handle over one billion pixels per second.

Kakapain pa yan ng Apple, Samsung and the other phone manufacturers. Siguro they might come out with similar technology after 5 years. Yung mga China made phones baka mauna pa.

    Just guessing though..

that's why nokia should know better and launch 808 for everyone ASAP, and please nokia, do not cripple the sales of this phone by choosing which market for availability, much like what you did for n9

they should make a WP (windows pureview) a pureview for the widows phone ASAP din hayzt...

di na ako aasa sa meego na pureview hahahahaha

They probably did, but because of the limitation of their OS's, they just can't.

Remember, Nokia began developing this technology 5 years ago. That's how advance Symbian is.
