Ateneo winning on Wednesday MIGHT change the complexity of the finals series. Although we are all aware of DLSU's stature now, we must realize anything can happen and nothing is impossible.

Well, I just wish for an epic finals clash.. We know for a fact that Ateneo and DLSU has such a rich rivalry history. I hope this series will just bring the best in both teams (and schools) and that volleyball in general, will benefit from this.

And..and...sana wala pong injuries or any untoward incidents na maganap..

btw, kelan ang individual awards? Thanks yow

    FOR MY DLSU:

1.) COUNT 1-2-3 APPROACH- para sa love kong si REYES. 123 as in SET, JUMP, SPIKE. nakakatuwa na nag-improve na yung opensa at approach sa bola ni reyes. i-maximize sana siya ni esperanza, huwag siya bibigyan ng bara-barang bola O MABAGAL NA SET. dahil hindi pa kaya ni reyes ang "through the block shots", para rin to sa lahat ng spikers ng dlsu
2.) NASAN ANG QUICK PLAY NI GUMABAO?- ibalik ang mga baon na back quick ni gumabao. it will be an ice breaker point for la salle

6.) BIGAT NG SERVE - patusok na serve pero siguradong IN at hindi error. nung last game nila. wala naman masyadong service errors. unlike nung mga nakaraan. kitang kita.

If Ateneo wins on Wednesday, we will have a championship series. If not, they might as well kiss their title hopes goodbye. They must contain the monster in Maraño because she got away with 20 points in their last meeting. They should place their serves well too because DLSU easily received their serves in their last meeting especially in the 5th set.

ADMU must win game 1 for them to have a chance at the title...
if LA SALLE wins game 1, tapos na ang kwento...

Is this Ateneo's last "good chance" at a crack to the crown (I believe marami sa magagaling nila ang mawawala next year)?

If so, they have to win. However, I think La Salle's got this, and will win this series in at most 3 games.

  9. #29
    DLSU in 4-5 sets...
A must-win situation naman for ADMU this wednesday and saturday if they want to extend the series to game 3...

Go La Salle! 2 games for the crown!

    I totally agree.

Bottomline is, the Lady Eagles must contain Marano. That girl surely has a lot of intensity. The LEs must learn how to match her, if not in terms of determination, at least with skills.

It's interesting how these teams have opposite offensive power. The Eagles bank heavily on open spikers while the Lady Spikers concentrate in the middle. Strangely, though, on the Ateneo side, Fille Cainglet cannot do much damage when she's in front, despite her smart attacks. It's really Valdez who is able to penetrate the strong blocking of La Salle. I think Cainglet needs to do more backline spikes.

About serving, meanwhile, these are the top two serving teams. But obviously, it's only Valdez (and the erratic Gervacio) that can pose real damage from the blue side. Almost all La Salle players serve well.

I really hope Ateneo students and alumni flock to the arena for this match. Unlike La Salle players who have this amazing and consistent firepower within themselves, Ateneo needs more support from the crowd and from other people.

    One Big Fight!!

Fans of both squads will take the outcome of the series personally.

La Salle definitely has the upper hand and it's their championship to lose. BUT..

    Ateneo will win if:

They serve really big -- Nacachi's and Ho's serve will be too light for the Lady Spikers. Only Valdez's serve will do the most damage to La Salle's reception.

They check Marano's middle and running spikes -- She will be definitely unstoppable on Wednesday.

They let Valdez spike from the back row. Ho, Cainglet and Gervacio will be marked girls. Only Valdez will find her spikes penetrating the strong blocking of La Salle.

They're able to psyche out Cha Cruz who will take the cudgels for her team -- blocking Cruz and digging her spikes can influence the outcome of Cruz's game.

Keys to win: Mindset -- treat each point as if it's match point; Gorayeb's coaching -- Steady the girls to focus on the task at hand as Ateneo will find the game one hell of a roller-coaster ride with the momentum shifting from one side of the court to the other; and crowd support -- they'll be needing all the support they can get from Katipunan and elsewhere; La Salle will be flocking to the Arena en masse on Wednesday.

La Salle will win if they're able to execute their game plan, that is, control the game at the net.

Prediction: Ateneo in 4 hard-fought sets.

good luck to both teams on wednesday.

di ko alam sinong ichi-cheer ko sa kanila ... but I'm looking forward to an exciting match. basta no injuries sana kase daming players nagka injuries this season.

since these 2 schools have such rivalry in uaap, sana mapansin din ng marami how exciting volleyball is and gather support from influencial people.

Wishing all the luck for the Lady Eagles!

You are the underdogs here but hoping for a pleasant surprise.

Their last meeting was not bad at all. May pag-asa naman.

    ONE BIG FIGHT!!!

So, the format for the WV finals is best of five?

This is even longer than the MB, which is only best of three, why the change? TV rights?

Any news with regards to the venue? Is there a chance they will play at Araneta, to accommodate more paying fans.

magpapakita kaya ulit si Mama Eagle sa La Salle-Ateneo UAAP women's volleyball finals series na magsisimula bukas?

    abangan!

Hanggang four games lang po ang maximum.
Ateneo needs to win three times. So, let's say Ateneo wins games 1 and 2, then La Salle wins game 3. Whoever wins game 4 will be the champion.
So, essentially, it's a Best of Four series.

I agree with most people's statement here that game 1 is very important for both teams because it will most likely dictate what would happen in the finals series. A DLSU win would really be a huge blow the Ateneo's confidence and beating them with a 2-0 advantage in the finals (on top of a 2-0 advantage in the elims) would be next to impossible (not totally impossible). An Ateneo win, on the other hand, would start sending reminders of that painful season 72 loss and it can really give pressure to the girls.

Good middle attackers have always scored high against Ateneo (Ortiz, Soriano, Marano) and this is what's going to kill Ateneo if they leave it unanswered, even Mika Reyes had a lot of clean hits during their last encounter. A lot would depend on Lazaro's game as well; she's usually the barometer for Ateneo's performance because everything stems from her reception. When Ateneo gets a good reception, Ferrer plays better and Gervacio gets more touches. Gretchen has been improving over the past few days and this improvement will be well-utilized when they receive well (like their last game). Lastly, MENTAL TOUGHNESS. Their opponents' trashtalks and taunts should only motivate them to do better.

As for DLSU, Galang has to play better than how she played during the last Ateneo-DLSU match. Her serves will also be needed since she really gives the receivers a hard time. Maintain their blocking, service and setting (although more sets should be given to Gumabao) and they are good to go.

My prediction: DLSU in 2 games.
