Gerald: Sarah inspires me
“Budoy” star Gerald Anderson admits he is happy with his developing friendship with Sarah Geronimo, his source of inspiration.
“As much as gusto kong sabihin na kami, (but) we’re (just) friends. Hindi po kami nagsisinungaling sa inyo. I’m proud na kaibigan ako ni Sarah. Yes, she does inspire me. I’m just really happy na nakilala ko siya in a different level,” Gerald said at the thanksgiving press conference for his TV drama “Budoy” at the ABS-CBN compound on Tuesday, February 28.
Although many people wish they’re already a couple, Gerald doesn’t want to put on pressure on their friendship because he and Sarah are enjoying what they have now. He just feels happy giving her joy.
“Kahit na hindi kami, then nakikita ko naman na kahit papaano masaya siya kapag magkasama kami, what else can I ask for? Nagkaroon ako ng isa pang magandang relasyon or friendship with a person who’s really amazing, beautiful, outstanding and masarap kasama,” he added.
Respecting Sarah’s family
Gerald has a high regard for Sarah’s family, who is very protective of her. He respects her family’s stand that Sarah may not yet be ready for a relationship.
“Malinaw na gusto ko sya, like I said, inspirasyon ko siya. Pero nirerespeto ko yung pamilya niya, yung stand nila na kumbaga si Sarah andoon pa sa stage na hindi pa siya ready na magka-boyfriend, ganoon din yung mga magulang niya,” Gerald said.
He observes that Sarah’s family is very “welcoming and warm.” Gerald respects the fact that Sarah’s mother, Divine wants a non-showbiz guy for the pop princess.
“Kung ano ang opinion ng nanay niya, wala akong magagawa kung hindi sundin iyon. Wag natin baguhin iyon or kontrahin iyon. Masaya ako na ang friendship namin ni Sarah is really high and she gives me inspiration.”
Will Gerald wait for Sarah’s sake?
“Mahabang proseso iyon eh. Hindi ko naman pwedeng sabihin na willing akong maghintay kasi kailangan rin naming makilala ang isa’t isa on a different level, yung makapag-bonding kami, yung makapagkwentuhan kami ng matagal. You can never know someone hangga’t hindi mo siya nakakasama ng matagal,” he replied.
Gerald admits he felt giddy when Sarah suddenly called him ‘Babe’ at the pilot episode of “Sarah G Live” on Sunday, February 26.
“Nakita nyo naman na nagulat rin ako. Sa totoo lang, hindi ko rin alam kung bakit nangyari iyon. At the same time, kinilig rin ako. Nanghina yung tuhod ko noon,” Gerald said, smiling.
Proud of Budoy
“Budoy” is down to its last two weeks and Gerald feels overwhelmed at the positive feedback he is getting from viewers of the ‘advoca-serye,’ where he plays a mentally-challenged character.
“Hindi namin alam (noon) kung paano ito tatanggapin ng mga tao, pero nakita namin na sobra silang natutuwa kasi kahit ganoon sya (Budoy), punong-puno sya ng pag-asa. Doon pa lang, na-hit na naming yung goal namin na makapagbigyan ng inspirasyon ng mga tao,”he said.
He will miss the show, especially co-actors Gerald has gotten close to. And he’s glad his role as inspired others.
”Budoy” is more than personal sa akin. Kapag lumalabas ako for mall shows, kapag lumalabas ako for mall shows, parang nakikita na rin nila si Budoy. Kahit mahirap yung role, tinanggap ko ito for the challenge.”
