UST Tigers enhance bid for 14th UAAP title in row

MANILA, Philippines - Perennial titlist University of Santo Tomas continues to set the pace in the race for the UAAP general championship, assembling 170 points after 16 events in Season 74.

On the hunt for their 14th consecutive general crown and 39th overall in the collegiate league, the Tigers copped a sixth diadem at the start of second semester hostilities – men’s fencing – to take a 15-point lead against their closest pursuer, De La Salle (155).

The España-based bets earlier ruled women’s beach volleyball, men’s taekwondo, men’s and women’s judo, and men’s table tennis in the first sem to make yet another strong case for the overall crown.

The Archers, who won men’s swimming in the first half of action, gained from their runner-up finish in women’s fencing to hike their tally to 155.

Undeniably, UST has one of the best sports programs in the Philippines particularly its recruitment program. However, we should consider that UST sends teams practically to ALL UAAP sporting events in both divisions.

Also, UST is losing grip on high profile sports like men's basketball, women's volleyball, and cheerdance. Although cheerdance does not count in tabulation, it is very popular among UAAP fans.

Mas masarap ipagmayabang ang General Championship title kung champion ka rin sa basketball and volleyball (also cheerdance).

Their lead over La Salle is very slim and they're neck and neck in the ongoing sports. I smell a transfer of the crown this season.

^I think there was a year na mas mababa pa sa 15 ang lead ng UST sa DLSU bago pa mag-start ang 2nd sem pero they still managed to win the overall title.

    This year will be exciting!

Sana magstep up din naman ang other schools para maging exciting ang overall race. Last time na iba ang nanalo eh 1999, tama ba?

^1997-98 yung academic year/season na ang nanalo ay ibang university (UP). Sana nga maging mas mahigpit ang labanan for the overall title.

    GO GO GO USTe!!!

Sa tennis malamang DLSU-NU sa men and DLSU-UP sa women. Sa women's chess DLSU 1st, UST last place. Sa men's chess UST 3rd, DLSU 4th. Sa baseball DLSU tied for 1st, UST far 4th. Softball UST 4th, DLSU 6th. Men's football UST 1st, DLSU 4th, Women's football UST 3rd, DSLU 4th. So ano kaya sa tingin nyo? Di kayang abutan?

kapag nasweep ng DLSU ang tennis both divisions 2x to beat sila sa finals.

sa women's football right now naglalaban DLSU-UST and DLSU right now is leading 2-0 sa huling update kanina.
