The presence of the Consul General Anne Jalando-On Louis at the Cabramatta International 9s tournament to watch her Philippines National Rugby League team win the Bowl Trophy left a good impression on her.

Refer to Rugby League's first ever press releases in local Philippines media it has her support all over it:

It looks like the Philippines National Rugby League team made an impression on Consul General Anne Jalando-on Louis and Consul Marford Angeles:

Jaime Pimentel is considered to be one of Sydney’s Filipino community “elder statesman” and “community leader”. He migrated to Australia with the first wave of Filipino migration into the country in the 70’s so has seen 5 decades of change with the influx of Filipino migration into the country.

He came to support the inaugural Philippines National Rugby League team at the Cabramatta International 9’s last February wearing his vintage 70’s era Australian Kangaroos International Rugby League jersey – he considers himself “a true Rugby League believer”. Like so many Filipinos living in the ACT, Queensland & NSW, he has adopted Rugby League as his choice sport.

Jaime Pimentel is now in his 80’s, he needed assistance and support to come and watch his fellow countrymen in Australia play the sport he has come to love. As a previous reporter he still does free lance writing for local Filipino-Australian press. Watching a Philippines National Rugby League team on the “footie field” was a dream come true for him and this is his story:

Another Filipino-Australian Andrew Everingham, makes his NRL debut for South Sydney joining Kevin Gordon & Matt Srama of the Gold Coast Titans:

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news...ectid=10792986
“The Rabbitohs opened the stronger, with debutant winger Andrew Everingham enjoying a dream start to his NRL career by scoring with his first touch after just 80 seconds thanks to a lovely flick pass from centre Matt King.”

1/2 a decade ago we only ONE Filipino-Australian playing in the NRL - Craig Wing in 2012 we have THREE!!!

For the local Pinoys not initiated to Rugby League the NRL or the National Rugby League is the premier Rugby League competition in Australia equivalent to the NFL for American Gridiron!

To prove that his debut performance last week was no fluke Andrew Everingham scores the only two tries in a losing South Sydney team against Brisbane last night:

Stricken Yow Yeh's year could be over
    Steve Mascord March 23, 2012 RABBITOHS 12 BRONCOS 20

“It wasn't long before Greg Inglis picked up where he had left off the previous week, confronting the defence in the north-eastern corner and allowing winger Andrew Everingham a clear passage to the try line…………
It was Inglis and Everingham again. This time the giant former Golden Boot winter stood in the tackle of three defenders, laid the ball back rugby-union style and Everingham tried to pick it up. Whether he was successful was down to interpretation. The youngster did not have control of the ball at any stage nor did he cleanly drop it, so video referee Clark awarded Souths a ''benefit of the doubt'' try”

Here is a press release on Matt Srama another Filipino-Australian playing top level Rugby League in the NRL with the Gold Coast Titans:

Even before we had our first training run in Sydney or Brisbane with the creation of the Philippines National Rugby League in Nov 2011, Matt Srama one of the three Filipino-Heritage professional Rugby League players playing in the premier NRL competition in Australia. Spent some of his holiday time in the Philippines over Christmas 2011 to introduce Rugby League to Filipino orphans:

Andrew Everingham declares for Philippines Rugby League

Long and winding road before Everingham scores sensational six
    April 13, 2012

"Having scrapped around with the Sea Eagles and Western Suburbs for six years he has emerged emphatically from anonymity in the past month at Souths, scoring six tries in his first four NRL games to establish a record that exceeds even the formative achievements of Israel Folau."

"While Everingham had to wait until his mid-20s for a first-grade debut, he has already represented his country. He joined brother Chris in playing for the Philippines at a rugby sevens tournament in Borneo 18 months ago, and hopes to one day play for the nation of his mother's birth in league."

Between 2005 - 2009 I was the only posting on this thread as well when I was involved with the PRFU:

    http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/...ht=rugby+union
We Play Rugby Union In The Philippines!!!!!

It just takes a couple of years to establish a new sport in the Philippines especially with Basketball such a dominant sport.

So I expect to be the only one adding to this thread for the next couple of years as well

Just some education when you talk about the 2 codes of Rugby:

Both codes of Rugby are popularly played in the UK, Australia, NZ & France & in these countries when you call the sport Rugby you tend to be talking about Rugby Union. So you refer to the other code in its full name as Rugby League or League.

BTW many of the Filipino-Australians who have done the Philippines proud winning the Div1 A5N series in Manila over the over the W/E are League players in Australia & not Union players:

    Matt & Oliver Saunders
    Cleo Gomez
    Brian West
    Jaime Urquijo

In the previous PRFU national squads there were even more League players than Rugby than the 5 in this tears series.

Thanks for checking out my League post Hopefully I'll reach the 18,570 views on the Rugby thread I started than the 7 years it has taken that one

I have used both threads to educate local Pinoys about the sport called Rugby so I'm glad local Pinoys are now aware that there are 2 codes of the sport.

Everingham’s performances on field coupled with his training efforts throughout the pre-season and season proper led the Rabbitohs to reward him with a contract extension.
Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire says Everingham is developing into a quality first grade footballer.
    Biography:
    Name: Andrew Everingham
    Position: Wing/centre
    Junior Club: Beresfield Bears

Matt Srama - the kid who could ease Ricky's mind
by: Marhie Mcdonald From: The Australian May 05, 2012 12:00AM

“A 21-YEAR-OLD who has played only as many NRL games as his age will be Ricky Stuart's barometer over the next fortnight to help select the best hooker for his NSW Origin side.
Matt Srama tonight goes up against Robbie Farah when the Gold Coast battles Wests Tigers for the annual Larry Corowa Cup. Then, next Friday night, Srama lines up against Michael Ennis when Canterbury comes to Queensland.
But Srama won't be giving either No 9 an arm-chair ride. Compare his statistics with both Farah and Ennis over the past two rounds and the player with Polish/Filipino heritage can certainly hold his own.”

Even Kevin Gordon gets a mention scoring the opening try for the Gold Coast Titans on the W/E!!!

Robbie Farah inspires Wests Tigers victory of Titans
    Steve Ricketts AAP May 05, 2012 6:30PM

“FULLTIME: WESTS TIGERS 15 (B Ayshford R Farah tries B Marshall 3 goals R Farah field goal) bt GOLD COAST 14 (K Gordon D Mead tries A Sezer 3 goals) in golden-point extra time at Skilled Park. Referee: Gerard Sutton, Alan Shortall. Crowd: 14,254.

The Titans played expansive football at every opportunity in the first half. However, their first try came from a bomb, with winger Kevin Gordon leaping over his opposite Beau Ryan to score in the 13th minute.”

“I got some good news a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been chosen in the Philippines International side for their inaugural international match against Thailand.

It’s surreal today that it’s around and I can play my part for the country of my mother’s birth, me and Kevie Gordon will be there, and my brother Luke Srama will be captaining the side. It’s something to look forward to at the end of the year, but my main goal is to reach the semi finals and win the premiership with the Titans!”

    Jon Tuxworth June 16, 2012

His younger brother Kevin is living the high life as a Gold Coast Titan, but Matt Gordon insists he'll be more than happy with his lot when he represents Canberra against Northern Rivers at Cessnock today.

But the 24-year-old knows today's opening clash of the Country Rugby League regional championships is a chance to press his claims for an NRL call-up.

    Hi All,
Another Andrew Everingham “feel good” story with him making the professional Rugby League competition in Australia:

    http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/l...709-21ru7.html

Everingham takes chance by the Rabbitoh ears
Date July 10, 2012 Ian Ccullough

“TWO years after he was working as a barman at Wests Ashfield Leagues Club, South Sydney winger Andrew Everingham admits he's still coming to terms with his brilliant debut season.

With his dreams of cracking the NRL ebbing away, the 25-year-old was offered a lifeline last December by Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire.
