    Your Thoughts on E-Books?

With the trend of e-books now, are you guys more open to the idea of e-books taking over the traditional print books? Like yung ibang textbooks ginagawang e-books na lang para ang bitbit na lang ng mga tao or ng mga bata is tablet or laptop?

Different strokes for different folks. I prefer to read the traditional way.

Not everyone has access to electronic hardware let alone access to e-books while yes it is a good project in the long run to save resources, but does all the inhabited islands in this country have 24/7 electricity?

almost all the books ive read in the past few years are ebooks, but download them and then print them out. sakit kasi sa mata, even with an ebook reader. mahal kasi ng legit, tsaka minsan nakakatamad maglib.

I think E-books are great! I'm a Kindle owner, and I have surpassed the need for an actual book! I love e-books. Not only are they less expensive, but they are also environmentally friendly.

    This.

I have an iPad and I must say that iBooks makes me feel like I'm turning the pages of a real book. Tsaka mas convenient dahil may bookmark, puede mag-highlight at may built-in dictionary na rin. But there are times when I feel like reading the traditional way kaya meron pa rin akong mga tunay na libro. After all, nothing beats the feeling of flipping the pages of a real book.

I prefer pa rin yung nagbabasa ka ng totoong book. masakit sa mata ang mga e-books

tsaka, hindi lahat kaya maka afford ng I pad or any gadget na pwede ang e-book

It also depends on the book content.

Novels, biographies, poems, etc - I have no problem with these coming in e-book form

Textbooks in Math, Physics, Accounting, etc - Sometimes you need to compare info from one page against something else from a different page (e.g. a table, a formula). Here's where bookmarks and paper books could come in handy. And no, it's enough even if the file provides a link to the referred table or formula, and back to where you were. Sometimes, you really need to be able to look at both parts simultaneously.

@rehan (post #12): How were you able to edit your post? Do you have Academe special privileges? Just curious.

@ubermensch: Wala po akong special privilege. Normal PEX user lang ako. Available lang edit option sa post ko kaya ayun nag-edit ako.

^ Thanks. Interesting. Then I guess you're lucky. What I know is that the edit function is not available to PEXers in general.

I like ebooks, I don't have to carry heavy loads when traveling, I have all my readings in my kindle and ipad. Ipad for the pearl technology, no backlight so it feels like you're reading from actual paper and ipad for books with illustrations, graphs and such. What's more, kindle battery lasts for at least 2 weeks.

I mean Kindle for the pearl technology. Sorry.

Since I can't edit the original post, let me point out a word I missed (see text in bold).

^Perhaps they should develop a technology that enables cross-book comparison however it will be really painful to the eyes but as we get used to the technology it'll eventually be easier for us.

unless trees becomes extinct that's the only time that i would switch to an ebook. but i have an ebook almost everything i want even magazines if you know what i mean.

I too rave the smell of a freshly opened book but sometimes its hard to read books while in transport. Siguro for books that are non-instructive e-books (i.e. novels) would be good but for manuals and workbooks, I don't think e-books will be a good idea.
