Paano mag-apply ng PhD sa US?

I am inquiring for someone else.

Say someone in late 20s. Nagtapos na ng masteral degree, at may 7 years na experience as college professor. Field of study - English and Literature.

Ano ang chance niya para mag-apply for a PhD sa US?

Kailangan ba maraming pera to apply?

Tell your friend to contact PAEF = Philippine-American Education Foundation. They administer the Fulbright Scholarship too.

Normally, your friend will be asked to take the GRE, TOFEL or IELTS. He or she would then contact the university where he or she intends to apply.

You don't have to be rich to study PhD in the US if you get sponsors or s scholarship. Many research-oriented universities there offer a full ride plus stipend.

Plus once accepted and given financial assistance (scholarship, research or teaching assitantship) sila na din mag-e-issue ng paperworks for your student visa.

you must be very bright or rich. You must be very smart to get scholarship or grants. Otherwise prepare dollars if you intend to be a regular student whch spell a status 'paying'.

Since the TS interest is about pursuing PhD, then it is assumed that the individual is atleast above average student, not necessarily very smart.

Question pala ni TS e kung kailangan ba MARAMING pera to apply?
ANSWER: NO..big NO. Hindi kailangan ng _maraming_ pera to apply. I believe typical application fee is less than hundred dollars. Read, fill-up, and send. Iba nga di pa sinasama ang bayad. Maganda sumulat ka muna sa grad committe (department level) and inquire about their programs, research interest and prospect of assistantship. Establish some communication.

Thank you so much po. Forwarded this information sa kanya. She doesn't have the money for it.

How to afford taking that test?

Tama ka. Kung may available man ay teaching assistantship. OR kung willing yung prospective applicant, gamitan ng kaunting creativity o diskarte. Apply in a related field na may research money at gawing cognate ang kaniyang major field.
