    Australia in Suzuki Cup?

With the next Suzuki Cup coming up, who here would like to have Australia invited to participate in future Suzuki/AFF cups? Australia was invited to join the AFF soon after they switched to AFC and I think having them in the Suzuki Cup would be a good shakeup giving some tough competition to the likes of Thailand and Indonesia

But since the Suzuki Cup is classified as a minor tournament by FIFA, expect the Aussies to send a "B" team of MNT reserves or even the Olympic/U23 "Olyroos" rather than the big names like Harry Kewell or Mark Schwarzer

if AUS participates then PHL's little chance of winning would only diminish.

i say bring them in. including aus adds prestige to the tournament.

but this should also be taken as a sign that we join oceania instead

If only the U-23, it's fine with me, but if the senior team, hell NO. LOL.

Afraid of a little (tough) competition, are we?

Australia would most likely send their U-23 or (at most) senior team reserves since (naturally) they would want to keep the big names for more important tournaments like the AFC Cup and the World Cup.

Even if they did send the senior team, I for one would welcome it as it would force everyone else to improve their quality of play, unless they want Australia to win the cup all the time But seriously, by having a tough competitor like AUS, SEA teams will have an incentive to shape up and finally shake off the image of being the "poor ugly step-sister" of Asian football.

do we really want to go back being "THE" minnow? with the kind of coach we have, that's not unlikely to happen.

  10. #10
NO! there's no thrill if we face them in a ssoww ssoww tournament where we are still ssoww ssoww also hahaha. Should we face them in the future, better of in a more prestige tournament but first we get the task done in the ssoww ssoww tournament. Save Aus and the likes for the next level so there's still thrill, that's if, if we continue to develop like this. Fly me to the moonriver wooot wooot

oks lang kung AUS B team. since aff is mostly under not so good asian teams.

could we also have those minnows in east asia and oceania for better competition. the more the merrier. and more experience to all the countries. except kung ayaw ng thais, indons at nag fefeeling magaling sa asia.

But the kicker there is if AUS B/U-23 participates and still wins the cup, that shows just how bad the quality of SEA football is compared to the rest of Asia/AFC

^ eh ano naman kung ganun ang mangyari? it's not just the Philippines who'll get the beating. all SEA countries will need to work harder to improve their respective football programs in order to keep up with the better of ASIA/oceania.

    Noooooooooooooo.

Screw them, sa East Asia sila sumali

Let them in, at least we don't just lose in a small tourney. Having AUS on it at least brings this tourney to look a little bigger.

That's my point, having a tough opponent like Australia will force everyone else in SEA to improve their game. As it is now there's hardly any improvement in SEA football with mediocre (at best) teams playing against other mediocre teams in SEA. To give you an idea of just how mediocre SEA is, just look at the friendly match last October between AUS and Suzuki Cup champs Malaysia

I totally agree with you. Bringing a big team like the aussies will surely make the other national teams play harder to avoid getting embarrassed. Though, Australia might only field their youth teams as this tournament lacks the prestige and competition to bring their first squad.

On the plus side, if we can somehow manage to score an upset against them, it will surely boost the popularity and support for football in our country tenfold.

Well I suppose we're better competition than the island-nation teams that Australia routinely beat back in the OFC.

okay for that, PHI Azkals will benefit by gaining more experience.

at sana maaply nila ang experience na yan.

and expect a MASAKER game kung AUS kalaban...
