Alleged rape scandal rocks Big Brother Brazil

Police are investigating a cast member of Brazil's most popular reality TV show Big Brother Brazil for allegedly raping a fellow contestant.

Police have removed 23-year-old student Monique Amin from the house because they believe she may have been assaulted by 31-year-old Daniel Echaniz after a drink-fuelled party.

But both have denied they had sex, even though Amin initially said she could not remember what happened in her bed.

Night visions cameras showed the male model get into bed with Amin, a university student.

Echaniz appears to have sex with Amin despite her appearing unconscious.

The next day she appeared in the confessional "Diary Room" and claimed she had no memory of the incident.

But when police interviewed her she confirmed some consensual sexual activity.

Police spokesman Antonio Nunes said: "Both of them did confirm they had consumed alcoholic drinks and that they were aware of their surroundings, and they confirmed touching each other under a comforter," said policeman.

Police took the contestants' underwear and sheets from the show's set, and the host voted Echaniz off for "inappropriate behaviour".

The party was televised on Brazil's Globo TV and showed Echaniz and Amin kissing and touching each other earlier in the night.

Network officials told local media that authorities were investigating because of the fact that Amin appeared to be unconscious during the alleged sex assault.

Brazilians for years have been glued to the country's top reality show, which awards a prize worth $830,000 to the winner.
