but of course, a sample of 40 students in a total fil-chi population of, uh, i'm really not sure... i'm just talking about my experience here...

I only said some Ateneans and some people.

anyone can fail, even Ateneans or whatever school you come from. Sipag, intelligence, relentlessness, practicality, connections, luck, etc. are needed for success. Even timing. I think the most important is sipag.

No one should really preach about what college they went to or what education they got.

Wouldn't it be awesome if you got super rich and successful without proclaiming to the world that you are an Atenean, or from UP, or Harvard and whatever?

Isn't it a bonus (personality wise) to discover that THAT guy or THIS girl, who is the protagonist in a rags-to-riches story, got educated in X university, without him/her bragging about it?

We all know from the moment Manny Pangilinan became famous that he prides himself being an Atenean, so we take it as meh...okay...so what?

But we all know the other Manny...not Manny Pacquiao lolz...I'm referring to Manny Villar, who made himself rich and never bragged about his UP education...only until the Presidential election when he narrated his life story. But prior to that, during his days as a senator, there was never a moment when he said "look at me, I'm from UP".

He was known in the UP community as an outstanding alumnus, but beyond that there was nada.

And when people found out that he was from UP,

^ i don't think it's about people preaching about which college they went to, but more about people asking which college you went to, then when they discover you're from ateneo (or la salle or up, whatever the case may be), they just can't get over it... and sometimes persecute you (or the school) for being an alumni of that college...

Hi. Hindi ako graduate sa ateneo, dlsu or UP. Graduate ako sa isa sa mga college/university located sa U-Belt/mendiola/recto area.Napansin ko lang kapag ang isang fresh grad ay hindi galing sa Top 3 universities ang mostly na available na job samin ay receptionist, admin assistant, telephone operator, customer service representative, clerk yung entry level job talaga yung pang rank and file, pero kapag ang fresh graduate naman ay graduate sa Ateneo, La Salle or even UP ang inooffer agad sa kanila ay Managerial to executive level na position such as Finance Manager, Corporate Communications Manager, Brand Manager, Senior Manager for Treasury mga ganun. Kaya for me mas believe ako sa mga employee na nagstart from a very humble position and worked his/her way up to an executive position kasi sila yung mga employee na mas experienced at marami pinagdaanan na hirap unlike graduates of UP,ateneo and La Salle na hindi nakaranas ng hirap boss agad sila sa company. Well in my case nagstart ako magwork sa Bank of the Philippine Islands as a Teller for five years bago ako na promote recently as Analyst sa BPI Head office. Kahit mabagal ang promotion kumpra sa mga kasabayan ko na tga ateneo na ngayon ay Vice President for Finance na ay okay lang sakin kasi mas natututo ako at mas nalalaman ko ang pasikot sikot sa company.

hehe...simple...DLSU graduates have own business...Admu or UP..employee lang or usually corrupt public officials

Great read! Applies to anyone regardless of school.

Maraming tao sa Pilipinas who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth think that they don't have to work as hard since their parents are well off. And I think Ateneans probably have the richest if not the most powerful parents inthe country. So I think them believing that success is owed to them because of their school and because of their parents is where their source of kayabangan is. I believe a lot of people who are mayabang but not backed by hard work are doomed to fail.

^a valid observation, but a hasty generalization... rather unfair to majority of the ateneans who work hard for their success... but yes, still a valid observation...

Ateneo is still the best school this 2012.

Not generalizing, pero yes, Ateneans have too much self-esteem.
Only a few I know who are humble and polite enough to work under a non-Atenean boss.

It's much more difficult to get into Ateneo than La Salle. For those who passed both and choose La Salle, preferred ng mga Chinese ang La Salle kasi sikat yung school sa accountancy, engineering at IT. Most Chinese parents discourage their kids to take up courses in the liberal arts and encourage their kids to take up "pre-professional" degrees. I was torn between Legal Management in ADMU and Information Technology in DLSU and I ended up with the latter.

As a non-Atenean, what I observed from Ateneans right after graduating is that they're very conscious with the image of their position. Many are unwilling to start from a low position unless it's a multinational. Some friends of mine took more than a year to find a job because of his self entitlement. In terms of business, image plays a factor as well by preferring businesses that look good like real estate or retail over "less visible" businesses like manufacturing or import/exports.

    That's just my observation though.

As to both Ateneans and Lasallians, the graduates in general lack loyalty to the employer. Kaya mid sized firms dislike getting Ateneo and La Salle graduates kasi umaalis agad pag may ok na opportunity. This isn't good for the Ateneo and La Salle community because it is through these midsized firms that you learn the trade in order to start your own business.

really po? Ilan po ang nagtake ng ACET this year? ang alam ko lang po kasi ay yung passing rate na usual 20%. Sa DLSUCET po kasi, 11.6% lang ang nakapasa out of 23000, almost 2700 lang.

  19. #58
Hindi ko sure yung exact figures pero sa section namin same number of students ang kumuha ng ACET and DLSUCET. 2 lang kami nakapasa sa ACET at mga 7 nakapasa sa DLSUCET.

Ateneo has fewer courses than La Salle with almost the same number of applicants, so it's much harder to get in. For DLSUCET we chose different courses, may engineering, may accountancy, may IT whereas for the ACET I think all of us chose JGSOM courses. I'd like to think the same is true with other Chinese high schools.
