Survival Tips for Freshmen please :)

I am starting my freshman year in ADMU this 2012. Can you guys give me some tips in order to survive my first year? What to expect from certain teachers and what they require from us?

  2. #2
First of all, what's your course. It depends on your course on how will you survive

  3. #3
I passed my first choice BS EU but I'm not sure if I wanna transfer since I like what the course has to offer.

  4. #4
Okay. BS EU is not as challenging as some of the courses out there, but it is STILL challenging. Just don't forget to read your Literature readings, minimize procrastination, and maximize your time studying. Try to have the highest QPI you can have since freshman year is the easiest year you'll ever have in Ateneo.

With BS EU, you'll have the chance of going out of the country on academic capacity.

    From which HS are you?

  5. #5

I'm from Assumption San Lorenzo. That's why I'm planning to take up BS EU even though it's not really challenging because of the junior term abroad that they offer

  6. #6
But other courses has also junior term abroad. The BS EU JTA is just more publicized.

  7. #7
Oh. I forgot. Spend time with your block, and attend OrSem. :>

BS EU? I think you mean AB European Studies, but it does have the Business track, if that's where you're inclined.

Like SOM majors, you'll have classes like Accounting and Finance, and you'll also have EU-centric business subjects, which are made more relevant given what some EU countries are experiencing right now financially like say, Greece.

Congrats on passing the ACET, before anything.

Survival tips? The easiest thing in Ateneo is to slack off, moreso since freshman year is technically the easiest and hardly stressful. With that, I agree that you should try to get high grades this year, 'cause it won't get any easier the following years.

Be yourself to everyone you meet, get along and make friends with your blockmates, hang out with them after school since your scheds end well before noon.

Try new things, allow yourself to experience them but know your limits.

The rest is completely up to you, on how you'll understand and make of all the stuff that you'll encounter, be it people or events or whatever.

Really? What other courses have junior terms abroad? Specifically, Europe?

Thanks stellarxplosion! I really appreciate the advice. I'm just desperate for tips since I always hear Ateneo horror stories about impossible assignments, terror teachers and hell weeks so I dunno what to think anymore.

  11. #11
Well, they just push you to do better.

All those impossible stuff will make you better, I swear.

Some courses in SOM, SOSE and even SOSS have the JTA, provided you reach an average QPI of 2.8 before your junior year. That's like having at least a B or B+ in every subject in your freshman and sophomore years.

The Ateneo has hundreds of partner universities in America, Europe and Asia. I have two friends from AB EU who just recently left for France and Spain, respectively, for their junior term abroad. The timeframe for JTA varies by school; SOM and SOSE JTA-ers left summer 2011 and returned just this month.

^let me correct that. I am from SOM and I am currently on JTA.

basta sa first day wag masyadong mag suot ng pormal para di halata na freshie

^ don't overdress talaga. And beware sa mga upperclassmen. Don't ask if you can. Most probably iiligaw ka nila

All the courses under the School of Management has JTA. Europe has been a popular choice.

Some courses under the School of Humanities, School of Social Sciences (AB EU included) and School of Science and Engineering has also junior term abroad.

Wow! I never thought the SOM had a JTA 'cause it's really not included in the course description that I read in the booklet Ateneo gave. If you don't mind me asking, what is you SOM course and where are you currently having your JTA?

  18. #18
I'm BS Legal Management and I'm here at USA. I wasn't able to get Europe. no slots left

Aww. That's too bad. Another reason why I chose to apply to AB European studies is because I want to be sure that if ever I have the opportunity to have a JTA it would surely be in Europe. Thanks for all your advice!

Don't worry. I'm not the show off type who wears dresses and heels to class. A pair of jeans and a shirt always works for me. Heck, I don't even wear shorts if I can help it
    Thanks for the advice!
