UAAP Season 74 Women's Volleyball: Possible End of 1st Round Scenarios

maybe someone here can help me out with this one. i will truly appreciate all assistance and corrections that will be made.

Scenario 1: ADU def. ADMU, FEU def. NU

- ADU and ADMU tied at 5-2.
- FEU and UST will be tied at 4-3.

Scenario 2: ADMU def. ADU, FEU def. NU

- ADMU, at 6-1, will be ranked 2nd.
- ADU, FEU and UST will be tied at 4-3.

Scenario 3: ADU def. ADMU, NU def. FEU

- ADU and ADMU tied at 5-2.
- UST, at 4-3, will be ranked 4th.
- FEU, at 3-4, will be ranked 5th.
- NU and UE tied at 2-5.

Scenario 4: ADMU def. ADU, NU def. FEU

- ADMU, at 6-1. will be ranked 2nd.
- ADU and UST tied at 4-3.
- FEU, at 3-4, will be ranked 5th.
- NU and UE tied at 2-5.

this will depend on whether or not the UAAP, through season host ADMU, will adopt quotient rule, win over the other rule and other means to break ties.

as my Observation. If FEU and ADMU wins by 3 sets, FEU will get the 3rd spot due to higher set ratio against UST and AdU..

if AdU will fall to ADMU in 4-5 sets, there's a possibility that they're gonna make it to the top 4 after the 1st round

maybe someone who has a better understanding of the rules on breaking ties in volleyball can post his/her inputs on this. hindi talaga malayo na magkaroon ng ties when the First Round of games end on Wednesday.

if adu loses, they need to lose in 5 sets. yung win/loss ratio will favor them tapos UST ang mawawala sa F4.

^ hindi pa naman usapang Final Four ito. rather, this is more of an inquiry as to how ties are being broken in volleyball.

unlike in basketball where simple quotient and win over the other rules can be used, iba yata ang rules ng volleyball in breaking ties. i'm certain that the First Round of games will end with several teams being tied. kailangan i-break ang ties to determine the seeding of the teams as a why to formulate the pairings for the Second Round.

I have a feeling na this weekend ang DLSU-UST round 2

^ the second consecutive DLSU-UST face-off will only happen if and only if Scenario 2 (ADMU def. ADU, FEU def. NU) happens and if UST will get the highest quotient among the three (ADU, FEU and UST) in case of a triple tie at 4-3 (3rd, 4th, 5th spots).

ang tanong na lang ay kung papayag ba ang ADU na matalo sa ADMU. if DLSU has UST as its kontrapelo, ADMU has ADU and ADU always performs well whenever it faces ADMU in any competition.


P.S.: hindi malayo na magkaroon ng DLSU-UST finals this season.

If the Scenario 2 Happens and then if the H2H matches of the tied teams are the basis of the triple tie to be Broken, FEU will get 3rd spot, UST will get the 4th spot and AdU will go down to 5th spot. So i think it's a must win for FEU and AdU respectively in order to position themselves in the top 4

^ i'm curious. how will a triple tie in volleyball be resolved? sa basketball kasi, simpleng quotient rule lang ang ginagamit to break ties- team with highest quotient gets the highest seeding, and vice versa.

so far, the race for the Final Four spots, from 2nd all the way down to 4th, is still a very open one, with Adamson, Ateneo, FEU and UST all contending to be a part of the semis this season. Ateneo may have the edge but i am starting to believe that UST might go up to as far as the 2nd spot come the end of the Second Round given the way the Tigresses are playing nowadays under the seemingly "free flowing system" of Coach Odjie Mamon.

pero from pre season hyped na DLSU-ADMU finals biglang singit din ang gusto din ng fans na DLSU-UST finals round 3.

Triple ties will probably be resolved by sets won vs. sets lost ratio in the games against the other two teams:

AdU: 3 sets won (vs. UST), 5 sets lost (2 vs. UST, 3 vs. FEU)
UST: 5 sets won (3 vs. FEU and 2 vs. AdU), 5 sets lost (3 vs. AdU, 2 vs. FEU)
FEU: 5 sets won (3 vs. AdU and 2 vs. UST), 3 sets lost (vs. UST)

FEU has the best sets won/sets lost ratio of the three.

These are the scenarios:

If AdU wins (regardless of how FEU does), AdU will be #2, ADMU will be #3, UST will be #4 and FEU will be #5.

If AdU loses and FEU wins, triple tie. FEU #3, UST #4 and AdU #5.

If AdU and FEU both lose, AdU #3, UST #4 and FEU #5.

UST will be ranked #4 no mater what happens tomorrow and will surely not face DLSU this weekend.

^ looks like it's a must win situation for ADU, ADMU and FEU tomorrow in order to maintain their respective positions in the rankings.

for ADMU, they have to live up to their own hype, which is why winning over ADU and maintaining a firm hold on #2 will be very important to the Lady Eagles.

for ADU, a win over ADMU tomorrow will catapult them to #2, which will be, if ever (correct me if i'm wrong), their best First Round finish in years. being at #2 will give Coach Dulce Pante's girls all the reason to do their best to be in the Finals once again.

for FEU, a win over NU tomorrow will give them a lot of encouragement, especially now that they are facing a Morada-less season although they are now stronger compared to the previous seasons.
