What is important ay extended pa ang showing ng The Healing on its 5th week.

Anyway, at the end it is still the producer who would know kung kumita ang movie nila o hindi.

Si nura ba may blockbuster movie pa for the past 10 years? WALA.

There's too much emphasis on the 100 million peso mark when box-office success should be measured by the number of tickets sold because ticket prices have increased dramatically over the years. If we only calculate box-office gross using today's standards, blockbusters of decades past would not be included on the list of all-time hits -- when they should be.

For example, FPJ's "Ang Panday" in 1980 grossed 10 million pesos in Metro Manila (based on Isagani Cruz's book Movie Times) when ticket prices were 8 pesos . This means that the original Panday sold 1,250,000 tickets in Metro Manila. Adjusted to today's ticket prices, say at an average of 130 pesos, that means "Ang Panday" grossed 162 million pesos in Metro Manila alone and should be included in the Top 50 list.

Another example is the original "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" starring Vilma Santos and Maricel Soriano. I remember an article in Panorama Magazine in 1986 that the movie grossed 14 million pesos in Metro Manila. If ticket prices then were an average of 14 pesos, that means the movie sold a million tickets in Metro Manila. So in today's ticket prices, that movie grossed 130 million pesos in Metro Manila alone and should also be included in the Top 50 list.

In the US, the highest grossing film domestically in today's dollars is "Avatar" at $779 million. But if the number of tickets sold are adjusted to today's ticket prices, "Gone With The Wind" is the highest grossing film domestically of all time at $1.6 billion. I think this is a fairer measure of box-office success if one were to put together a list of ALL-TIME box-office hits. If we only want to compare the box-office prowess of today's young stars (say, Sarah Geronimo vs. Angel Locsin, or Judy Ann Santos vs. Claudine Barretto), then its okay to just use the recent/current, unadjusted grosses. But if we want a true list of ALL-TIME box-office hits then it would be interesting how Sarah Geronimo's ticket sales compare to Sharon Cuneta's, or how Judy Ann Santos' recent hits match up against Vilma Santos' all-time hits in terms of the actual number of tickets sold.

It would be great if Regal, Viva and other prodco's could release the box-office receipts of their old movies so we can accurately adjust their grosses to today's ticket prices. If we do that, we will most likely see past blockbusters included in the Top 50 top-grossing Filipino films of all time, like "Kahit Konting Pagtingin" (FPJ & Sharon Cuneta), "Batang Quiapo" (FPJ & Maricel Soriano), "Gaano Kadalas Ang Minsan?" (Vilma Santos & Hilda Koronel), "Till We Meet Again" (Nora Aunor & Tirso Cruz III), "Once Upon A Time" (Dolphy), "Paano Ba Ang Mangarap?", "Sinasamba Kita" (Vilma Santos & Christopher De Leon), "Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?" (Sharon & Gabby), "Bukas Luluhod Ang Mga Tala" (Sharon Cuneta), "Bagets" (Aga Muhlach & Co.), "Maging Aking Ka Lamang" (Lorna Tolentino & Dina Bonnevie), "Pido Dida" (Rene Requiestas & Kris Aquino), "The Flor Contemplacion Story" (Nora Aunor), "The Maggie De La Riva Story" (Dawn Zulueta), "Vizconde Massacre" (Kris Aquino), along with old Rudy Fernandez, Bong Revilla, TitoVic&Joey, Robin Padilla and Aga/Regine movies.

It would also be interesting to see if the 2000 blockbusters "Anak" and "Tanging Yaman" would place higher on the list once their grosses are adjusted to today's ticket prices.

Just a thought. Thanks for reading. :-)

May balat daw ba si Ate Vi?
    by Dapat Lang/Pete G. Ampoloquio, Jr. Aug 27, 2012

Astute ang kanyang observation kaya ilalabas natin for you guys to savor and ponder on.

Vi?

“Kasi po I remember 3 years ago, ‘yung last movie niya na In My Life, September 16 naipalabas ‘yun at sobrang lakas rin nun sa takilya dahil 1st day palang naka-20 million na.

“Kaya lang, after ten days of showing, bumagyo ng superlakas.

“But then naka-137 million pa rin.

“Last July 25 naman, naipalabas ang The Healing,” he further elaborates.

Well, at least Ate Vi was able to prove to all and sundry her formidable strength at the box-office.

If it’s any consolation, during its 5 weeks of showing, The Healing has been able to amass a whopping 130 million.

Hahahahahahahaha!

    ‘Yun lang!

    ==================

Si Nora for so many years ay wala ng hit na movie.

Pero walang dapat ikalungkot, dahil Vilma Santos will still continue to d movies at marami pang box office hits na magagawa.

Unofficially Yours #13? that movie was nonsense, wlang kwenta. how can it be ahead of Hating Kapatid? the first time I saw those numbers I knew they are manipulated. Sadly most people dont know this and are made to believe false info.

RP's Highest-Grossing Film of All Time!

Tabular ranking for top earning films has never been easier. Thanks to the advent of technology! Nowadays, box office receipts for a particular period are readily available via the Internet..

The 2009 Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz starrer, You Changed My Life, is listed as the highest grossing Filipino film of all time. Throughout its run in local cinemas, the movie has accumulated a total revenue of 230 million pesos. But could there be a possibility that another film actually grossed higher?

Let us go back in time, like 1971, when transistor radios and black&white TVs were among the latest household technology. The year when one movie broke all existing box office records. Guy & Pip starring Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III stayed in theaters for 6 long months and raked a phenomenal 8 million pesos. At first glance, 8 million is a measly figure compared to 230 million. However, we have to make some calculations here to get the real picture:

In 1971, ticket price average is 2 pesos; while 2009 ticket price average is 140 pesos. Adjusted for ticket price inflation, Guy and Pip's 8 million pesos gross is equivalent to 560 million pesos at 2009 average ticket prices, making it the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time!

Afterall, it was during the 70s when Nora Aunor phenomenon swept the entire country.
