okay lang na magdisagree ka. Sure, why not?

Disappointing for Every Breath U Take. For a movie na nirelease ng SC for the month of MAY, disappointing ang result niya. Yung previous May movies like Here Comes the Bride, In The Name of Love, BFF, Caregiver/ LAHAT sila lumagpas ng 100 Million. Im not saying, nalugi, disappointing lang. Magkaiba yun.

Part of the problem which seem to plague this message board, and most social networking sites, has nothing to do with a film's quality or success. I think, it's mostly partisanship. The ABS-CBN crowd will heckle a film from GMA films and vice-versa, the GMA crowd will heckle a film from Star Cinema...it's very counter-productive in promoting FILIPINO films, and very childish, if you really think about it.

People seem to take some sadistic delight whenever a film flops. So, they tend to hold films which gross over P100M as the benchmark for success, and everything else are "flops"...even if it's rarely the case, again, if you factor in cost and other revenue streams (like dvd sales and tv airings).
Yes, net income and profit margins are more important than revenues. But net income only becomes relevant when you have all the data on hand, when you know how much the box office receipts and production costs are.

For the purposes of this thread, I think it's still better to use gross revenues in determining a film's box office success precisely because the public don't have complete data on every film's total cost. How would we know which film earned the highest net income when we don't have the data that would allow us to compute the profit margins? How can we accurately say that a producer is happier with an 18million grosser versus a 50million grosser when we do not know for sure how much that producer spent to make each film? How can we be unbiased with our opinions when we do not have the proper metrics to follow?

Feeling ko lang, with Star Cinema and GMA Films, its free lang to advertise sa mother networks nila.

    For Star Cinema this 2012

    Disappointing:
Every Breath U Take, 50 Million

    Okay:
    A Mother's Story, 25 Million
    My Cactus Heart, 25 Million

    Surprise Hit:
    Corazon, 50 Million
Born To Love You, 30 Million (opening)

    Blockbuster:
    Unofficially Yours (140 Million)

according to someone I know from abs, DISAPPOINTING din ang results ng Born to Love You, in fact , Star CInema gave it a grand premiere night, patunay na they had a high expectation for Coco Martin at the box office him being a very popular TV star. (Corazon did not have a grand premiere night)

Plus Born To Love You was shot in the States medyo may kalakihan ang cost. It again boils down also to the NET INCOME factor.

But the most disappointing of all is Every Breath U Take considering that Angelica was part of Here Comes The Bride and her previous romcom (and drama as well) movies did good at the box office.

If we factor in the 'coco martin' effect, di pa naman tried and tested sa commercial boxoffice at sobrang sugal na ipair siya kay Angeline Quinto.

Tapos yung EBYT, expected gross ay more than 100M kasi piolo at angelica p yan.

Anong Born to Love You was shot in the States?

I think Born to Love You proves that just because you're a big TV star doesn't mean that your movies will be box office hits. For example si John Lloyd.

  13. #853

Well, maybe you should check the various GMA Annual Financial Reports posted in the GMA Investor Relations website.

Till I Met You was the highest grossing GMA movie for the year 2006 with a theatrical gross of more than 90M. If IWALY grossed more than 100M then wouldn't it be declared the highest grossing movie for that year?

As for The Promise, it grossed 60M as per the 2007 FR.

And if you review the disclosures for the other years, you'll find out that Let The Love Begin grossed 110M and My Bestfriend's Girlfriend grossed 107M.

    just check the FRs first.

We can't blame people if they're too fixated with just the grosses of movies as most lists and reports only show the theatrical grosses of movies.

Still, I think this discussion is good. At least it can make people think harder before labeling a movie as flop or labeling an actor as not bankable.
