WORKING in ERNST AND YOUNG LAOS

I have this job offer from a friend to worked in EY Laos as Staff 1 under advisory and assurance services . Do you think ok to? With this job I will let go of my job here in the Phil. but not in an auditing firm. I am about to leave the country on march 1 but I had still the option not to.
    any insights with this

    IF I WERE YOU

    Primary consideration:
    - How much will you be earning there vs how much will you be spending there (Laos)
    - How much will you be earning here vs how much will you be spending here (Pinas)

    Secondary consideration
    - Will you be able to work effectively and efficiently though you will be away from your loved ones

    ------
Late last year (Nov-Dec), I was engaged to perform internal audit procedures for an E&Y Singapore client so for a month I was able to experience working in Singapore.

I asked for the normal salary for my level there and compared it to what I am currently earning here in the Philippines then the disparity is that wide. Even if I would have to spend more in SG, I think I will be able to save more money there. How do I know, I was still able to save (to some extent) even with the budgeted per diem provided to me during that engagement.

Even the taxi driver how I had a chat with, laughed his *** off when he knew how much I was earning in the Philippines given the level of experience. More than SGD 3,000 is really a glaring difference.

I am seriously considering applying for them as the Managers there were actually indirectly telling me that there is an opening for a Senior level. The only thing that is holding me back is loyalty with the local affiliate! With 3 on-going engagements and upcoming ones if proposal would be accepted, goodluck na lang kung makaalis kaagad ako!

My parents are also endorsing me to a person who can help me apply and be accepted to E&Y Qatar.

    ---

My final piece of advice, do not let opportunity pass. It may only come once. You'll never know.

    Mabuhay Pinoy Accountants!

  7. #7

At the rate you are becoming conscious of the corruption not only in politics and judiciary, but also in business and professional practice, mas magugustuhan mo talaga magwork or even mag-migrate sa ibang bansa. Hire & fire na naman ang common business practise when it comes to employees, kaya madalas wala na ring loyalty ang mga employees sa employers.

Well, ganyan talaga....Mabuhay ang global pinoy CPAs.

the "MAIN" reason to consider when working abroad is the salary!

  11. #11
More often than not, it's not like that nagpapaalipin ng dahil sa pera. It's just like mayroon lang mas malaking offer sa ibang bansa and some had chosen to leave. But for those who aren't that blessed with good education(even pros nga eh), being a DH, driver at iba pang mararangal na trabaho overseas ang pag-asa nilang makapagprovide ng kabuhayan para sa pamilya nila. I'm so proud of those kababayan natin na handang iwan ang bansa makapag-padala lang sa pamilya nila.
We have our own views when it comes to brain drain. God bless OCWs.

-from a professional that had been fed, educated, raised and loved by an OCW.

  13. #13
hehe fortunately naipasa ko ang board exam last oct wyl working and un nga may offer to work there pero i have not met their schedule requirement kaya wait ulit ako for any other vacancies..kasi gusto nila january3 alis na...which is I think not possible because of my current work..

ako kasi , after passing the board , hindi ko inexpect na sobrang hirap pala magapply ng work dito with your desired salary . akalain mo . cpa kana minimum padin ang ipapasweldo sayo . .

My work load here in E&Y PH is WAY heavier when I was with E&Y SG for 1 month last year. Siguro di comparable dahil 1 engagement versus multiple engagements plus admin works. Kung san ka for a certain period of time, dun ka talaga.

Mas may work-life balance ako dun kesa dito.

Not sure kung nadinig mo lang yan sa ibang tao kaya mo nasabi or personal mong naexperience but the way I saw it and even with fellow Pinoy Accountants in SG I saw that time, mas nagagaangan sila sa trabaho dun.
