Coco Martin and Angeline Quinto shine in ‘Born To Love You’

Despite the gloomy weather, fans of both Coco Martin and Angeline Quinto trooped to the Born To Love You premiere night at SM Megamall in Ortigas last May 29. Even Coco’s and Angeline’s celebrity friends proved to be just as excited with the event as early birds Paulo Avelino, Melissa Ricks, Vina Morales, Jed Madela, and Julia Montes were among the first to be seated in the theater. The cast of Primetime Bida’s hit fantaserye Aryana—Ella Cruz, Paul Salas, Michelle Vito and David Chua—also showed up at the premiere.

Sam Milby, Robi Domingo, Joem Bascon, and Jason Francisco all arrived solo. Slater Young, Markki Stroem, Kit Thompson, and Carlo Romero elicited some screams from fans while walking down the red carpet.

Coco’s other Walang Hanggan co-stars also showed their support for him at the premiere. Dawn Zulueta was there with husband Anton Lagdameo while Richard Gomez came with his wife, Ormoc congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez.

“The movie is cute. Ito yung movie na gusto mong matawa, gusto mong maiyak, gusto mong ma-in love. Cute yung acting ni Angeline. Gusto ko yung brand ng acting niya. Maraming mga touching moments. Maganda yung scene na nasa riles sila ng tren, magkayakap sila,” said Richard. His wife Lucy also agreed with the novelty of the movie. “I think it was refreshingly funny. Si Coco was his usual cute and adorable character. A very, very nice combination. It was very unpredictable. Akala mo maiiyak then biglang matatawa ka. Para siyang loka-loka. It’s cute. Very cute.”

In Born To Love You, Coco plays the role of Rex, a talented photographer with a sad past. He crosses paths with Joey, an outspoken tourist guide whom he can’t seem to get along with at first. What ensues is a journey of discovery for both of them on what really matters in life.

After a grueling eight months of shooting, Coco admitted he feels fulfilled after watching the outcome of their hard work in Born To Love You. “Sobrang nagpoapasalamat ako sa lahat ng taong sumuporta at nagmahal sa amin ni Angeline. Finally napalabas na rin yung pelikula. Masasabi ko na sulit ang hirap at pagod namin dito nung napanuod naming yung acceptance ng audience. Hindi ako nag-expect pero nung napanuod ko na yung pelikula habang nag-du-dubbing ako, nakita ko na yung potential eh. Kumbaga kahit ako bilang artista na ako mismo yung gumaganap, kinikilig ako and then nakaka-inspired, nakaka-in love. Kaya sabi ko sulit talaga,” he shared.

Angeline, on the other hand, admitted that she had premiere night jitters. “Sa totoo lang po, kanina pa ako naiihi bago pa magsimula ang palabas. Pinipigilan ko na lang. Maraming maraming salamat. Kahit medyo maulan talagang nagtungo kayo dito. Talagang sobra yung pasasalamat ko sa ABS-CBN sa napakalaking tiwala na binigay nila. Kung tutuusin, nung pinapanuod ko hindi ko alam kung paano ko nagawa yun kasi halos eight months naming shinoot yung pelikula at kanina nung pinapanuod ko parang sobrang naiyak ako sa sobrang saya kasi at least yung pinaghirapan namin natapos na. At yung mga tao dito sa Megamall, sa labas pa lang ang dami ng tao,” she said.

Finally, there are reports from bookers of other movie productions na kumikita sa takilya ang pelikula nina Angeline Quinto at Coco Martin na Born to Love You.

Now, makakahinga na nang maluwag si Angeline who, for the last few days, admitted na ’di siya halos makatulog habang nalalapit na ang showing ng movie.

Star Cinema and Cinemedia, which co-produced Born to Love You, still have to release the figures ng kinita ng movie on its first day.

Basta ayon sa mga tao behind the two productions, may dahilan for them to wear those happy smiles habang showing ang pelikula.

Lalo na, of course, si Coco, who takes to the movie as his most important challenge to date. Naturally, si Direk Jerome Pobocan din dahil this is his first movie bilang director.

NAG-LAST shooting day ang The Healing, pinagbibidahan nina Batangas Governor Vilma Santos at Kim Chiu, last Saturday.

Natapos ng direktor na si Chito Roño ang pelikula ng 37 days dahil na rin sa rami ng commitments ng mga cast lalo na nga ang Star for All Seasons.

Sa last shooting day, dumating ang ever supportive husband ni Ate Vi na si Senator Ralph Recto pati na ang kanilang anak na si Ryan Christian.

Dumating din ang mga anak ng isa sa cast members na si Janice de Belen bilang suporta sa kanilang ina. Halos kumpleto ang buong cast at ang wala lang ay si Kim, na nasa ibang bansa. Andu’n din si Pokwang.

Napakabongga nga raw ng last shooting day dahil nagpa-raffle si Ate Vi para sa staff ng movie, ganundin si Pokwang.

Ngayong tapos na ng Star for All Seasons ang nasabing movie under Star Cinema, pinag-iisipan daw nitong tanggapin ang indie film na inaalok ng director na si Adolf Alix.

Although hindi pa ibinibigay ni Ate Vi ang kanyang oo, mukhang interesado raw ito na gawin dahil bukod sa maganda ang material ay five shooting days lang at madali niyang maisisingit sa kanyang schedule.

Balita rin namin, tapos na ang kontrata ni Ate Vi sa Star Cinema kaya wala na siyang commitment sa nasabing produksyon at puwede nang gumawa sa iba.

Pero inaawitan daw si Ate Vi ng ABS-CBN para gawin ang Vilma special para sa golden anniversary sa showbiz ng aktres.

May offer din daw na pelikula kay Ate Vi ang TV5 at co-producer ang Regal Films pero hindi pa raw tinatanggap ng aktres at hindi pa alam kung makakaya pang gawin dahil magiging busy na rin siya para sa darating na eleksyon.

Muling kakandidato si Ate Vi bilang gobernador ng Batangas sa darating na eleksyon for her second term.

Samantala, kasabay ng pagtatapos ng shooting ng The Healing ang bago namang TVC ni Ate Vi, ang Generics Pharmacy, na magkakaroon ng official launch ngayong June 7.

Next week, nakatakdang dalhin ni Boy Abunda ang mahal na ina sa Germany para ipagamot ang sakit nito. Matatandaang na-diagnose ang ina ng TV host na may dementia at ilang buwan na ring sumasailalim sa treatment.

Hindi naman daw lumalala ang kondisyon ng ina pero gusto ni Kuya Boy na mas bumuti pa ang kalagayan nito.

More or less, two weeks lang mawawala si Kuya Boy kaya baka pansamantala muna siyang hindi mapanood sa Bandila at The Buzz.

Sobra raw kasing selosa Bianca Manalo, ibinasura na ni John Prats?!

HINDI NA raw nakikita sa bahay ni John Prats si Bianca Manalo kaya naman maugong ang balitang hiwalay na sila.

Nasulat na namin before na nagli-live-in na ang dalawa kaya madalas na makita si Bianca sa mansion ng mga Prats. But lately, nowhere in sight na raw ang beauty queen which prompted some tongues to wag.

May nasulat na John initiated ng break-up. Fed up na raw kasi ang binatang dancer-host sa mga demands at pagseselos nitong si Bianca.

Sobra raw kung magselos itong si Bianca and in her jealous fits ay away ang madalas mangyari. Even the girl who’s closest to John ay inaaway rin daw ng former beauty queen.

As reported in a website, nag-away raw nang todo sina Bianca and John during a dinner in a restaurant. Peeved, John called it quits.



FINALLY, WE saw the controversial cover version of Angeline Quinto ng And I’m Telling You na kinanta niya sa ASAP recently.

We can’t quite get it when some people started bashing Angeline for singing the now popular song na inawit nina Jennifer Holliday at Jessica Sanchez sa American Idol.

May mga nagsasabing binaboy ni Angeline ang kanta.

We beg to disagree. What the televiewers were wanting to see siguro ay ang plakadong version ni Angeline ng pagkakakanta ni Jessica.


There’s one thing that they seem not able to realize. Iba ang areglo na ginamit sa kanta ni Angeline at iba rin ang arrangement sa version nina Jennifer at Jessica.

While it’s true that Angeline made quite an effort to reach her highest notes in the song, naitawid naman niya ang kanta nang mahusay.

Ang problema kasi sa atin, ang gusto nating makitang version ang ating ini-expect, not realizing that music offers a wide array of arrangement ayon sa boses ng kumakanta.

Kung gusto n’yong maaliw ay panoorin n’yo na lang ang sa Youtube ang fierce cover version ng dalawang beki ng And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.

Super aliw kami when we watched it. Ang husay ng pag-impersonate nila kina Jennifer Holiday at Jessica Sanchez. But easily, it was Jennifer’s impersonator who stood out. Naloka kami when he mimics Jennifer lalo na kapag ibinubuka na niya nang todo ang kanyang bunganga.

Go watch it and we’re quite certain na maaaliw kayo. Tiyak na mawawala ang pagod mo while watching it

Pagkaiksi-iksing maong shorts lang daw ang suot nito, kaya lantad na lantad daw ang katakam-takam na legs nito na busog na busog at balbon.

Eh, dahil mahusay na dancer din si Gerald, kaya bonggang-bongga rin daw ang ginawa nitong paggiling.

Coco, kakaiba ang macho appeal



NAPANOOD namin ang pelikula nina Coco Martin at Angeline Quinto na Born to Love You kamakalawa nang gabi.

May comedy moments ang movie, lalo na si Angeline, pero mas romantic-drama ang dating nito kesa romantic-comedy dahil may kabigatan ang kuwento nito.

Si Rex (Coco) ay isang struggling photographer, na tila galit sa mundo dahil hindi niya makalimutang iniwan siya ng kanyang ina (Eula Valdes) nu’ng paslit pa siya.

Nangako ang nanay niyang babalikan siya, pero hindi ‘yon natupad hanggang sa namatay na ang kanyang ama (Tonton Gutierrez) dahil nagkabalikan pala sa Amerika ang kanyang ina at ang dati nitong nobyo (Albert Martinez).

Sa isang Korean wedding ay nakilala ni Coco ang tourist guide at translator na si Joey (Angeline). Palpak ang unang pagkikita ng dalawa dahil nagkaasaran sila at nabuwisit sa isa’t isa.

Galing sa mahirap na pamilya si Joey. Siya ang breadwinner at panay ang sali niya sa mga singing contest para magkapera. Nag-aral mag-Korean si Joey ay dahil pangarap niyang makapunta ng Korea para hanapin ang kanyang Koreanong ama.

Nagkataong nagkasama sa isang out of town photoshoot para sa isang Korean product sina Rex at Joey. Sinusupladuhan ni Rex si Joey dahil asar siya rito. Bilang ganti ay minamalditahan din ni Joey si Rex.

‘Yung away-away sa simula ay nauwi rin sa swit-switan. Naging magkasintahan sila, pero sarado ang puso ni Rex sa inang nag-abandona sa kanya.

Nang dahil kay Joey ay matututunan niya kung paano ang magmahal, tumanggap at magpatawad.

Bagong kombinasyon ang Coco-Angeline, pero in fairness ay may chemistry sila at may kilig ang fans sa tambalan nila.

Bet namin ‘yung eksenang nag-inuman ang dalawa sa may beach. Nu’ng una ay pa-shot-shot pa sila, pero pagtagal-tagal ay tinutungga na nila ‘yung Tanduay mula sa bote!

Aliw rin ‘yung nagyakapan sila sa gitna ng riles ng tren, na nagpa-panic na si Angeline dahil may paparating na tren pero ayaw umalis ni Coco sa gitna ng riles.

First time ito ni Coco na gumanap bilang romantic leading man sa isang mainstream movie.

Nakeri naman niya, kaya lang ay konti lang ‘yung kanyang pakilig scenes at mas marami pa rin ‘yung eksenang nagda-drama at nag-eemowt siya.

Hanggang sa dulo ng pelikula ay ang bibigat ng mga eksena niya.

Kilig ang fans doon sa airplane scene na hinawakan ni Coco ang kamay ng nalululang si Angeline, at ‘yung naglalambigan sila matapos linisan ni Angeline ang bahay ni Coco, na ayaw magpahalik ni Angeline dahil pawisan ito.

Kakaiba ‘yung macho appeal ni Coco na Pinoy na Pinoy at masang-masa ang dating. Ang guwapo niya nang gupitan siya ng bangs at ahitan ng balbas ni Angeline.

In fairness kay Angeline, para sa isang first timer umarte ay natural na natural siya sa harap ng kamera. Benta rin sa fans ang mga jologs na hirit niya, na simple pero nakakatawa.

Naalala namin ‘yung kuwento ni Coco nu’ng presscon na nu’ng simula ay parang robot kung kumilos si Angeline at wala itong kaalam-alam sa pag-arte, pero hindi namin ‘yon nakita sa screen dahil sakto lang ang ibinigay na akting ng baguhang singer-turned-moviestar.

May chance na mas gumaling at lumalim pa si Angeline kung mabibigyan siya ng magagandang acting projects pagkatapos nito.

Si Coco ang isa sa mga sumulat ng istorya ng Born to Love You (gamit ang tunay niyang pangalan na Rodel Nacianceno). Katuwang niya rito sina Rondel Lindayag at Deo Endrinal. Isa rin siya sa executive producers ng pelikula.

Malamang kay Coco nanggaling ‘yung idea na gawing dramatic ang Born to Love You sa halip na light at feel-good rom-com lang na kagaya ng usual Star Cinema flicks.

Si Rondel Lindayag (na creative head ng mga teleserye ni Coco tulad ng Walang Hanggan, Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin at Tayong Dalawa) ang sumulat ng screenplay ng Born to Love You.

Bilib kami sa galing ni Rondel pagdating sa mga teleserye at natutuwa kaming nagko-crossover siya sa pelikula, pero sadyang iba ang TV sa film medium kaya sana next time ay makagawa siya ng mas magandang materyal.

‘Every Breath U Take’ Grosses P42.8-M in 2 Weeks

The Piolo Pascual-Angelica Panganiban starrer–”Every Breath U Take”–has raked in P42.8 million in 2 weeks.



Topping the local box-office for the weekend period of May 23 to 27, 2012 is “Men in Black 3” with a 5-day gross of P71.22 million.
“Every Breath U Take” settled for second place on its second week with the current total gross of P42.8 million.
The other Pinoy movie, “The Mommy Returns“, has grossed P30.6 million in 3 weeks.
The highest-grossing movie in the Philippines for the year 2012 so far is “Marvel’s The Avengers” with a current box-office total of P640.26 million.

Piolo Pascual Denies Romancing Cristine Reyes

Piolo Pascual is too busy for love.

According to the actor, he is juggling far too many projects of late to be able to explore matters of the heart.

"I was segueing from one set to another. I finished shooting for ‘Every Breath [You Take’]. And then the TV show [‘Dahil Sa Pag-ibig’] and we’re also doing Star Magic movie to segue to Kris’s [Aquino] movie [‘Undo’]. So, I hardly have time for anything else," said he in a recent interview with PEP.

Because of his loaded schedule, rumors romantically linking him to “Dahil Sa Pag-Ibig” co-star Cristine Reyes is just that though he admits that they have gotten to know more of each other in the course of work.

"You know what, inevitable naman 'yan [his closeness with Reyes] sa trabaho, especially when you’re together every day sa soap," he said. "[Pero] hindi natin puwedeng bigyan ng malice yun.”

He added, “You know, I’ve always been a friend [to Reyes].”

The 35-year old hunk pooh-poohed the odds of this friendship blossoming into something more intimate, saying he respects Reyes’ beau, Rayver Cruz.

“I’m Rayver’s friend before I became Cristine’s friend. Matagal na kaming magkatrabaho ni Rayver. Mag-Kapamilya, magkapatid kami sa Star Magic,” he said.

Candid as he was in discussing seemingly inconsequential worries, Pascual was quick to lose himself in rhetoric when it comes to questions relating to his ex-girlfriend, KC Concepcion.

Asked if he is bothered with his name being constantly dragged into issues involving Concepcion, Pascual said, "I’m good. I mean I shouldn’t complain. It’s a blessing. It’s a blessing to be alive every day… to be waking up to a new day and having something worthwhile to do. So, it’s a blessing."

He went back to being outspoken when talking about the movie he is set to do with Aquino.

"We already had a preliminary meeting with Kris and Direk Chito [Rono] and Star Cinema. So we hope to start rolling in June," he said.

Pascual described the film as “serious.”

“A lot of people think it’s horror but it’s not," he said hinting that he and Aquino will have some steamy scenes for the movie.

"Mag-asawa [kami dito], so it’s quite legal," he explained.

Sino pa ba naman kasi ang maniniwala sa guranggang lolang ito na araw-araw ay salit-salitang binabanatan ang mga artista ng Dos out of sheer envy for the simple reason that she’s no longer being acknowledged by Piolo Pascual and the rest of the gang for they know that she has nothing but her own selfish interest in mind and not in any way the betterment of the artist involved or the industry as a whole?

DZMM, kinilalang trusted brand ng Reader’s Digest!


Nakamit ng DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 ang Gold Standard Trusted Brand award sa radio category ng Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands 2012 noong Mayo 31.

Ayon sa ABS-CBN Manila Radio Division head na si Peter Musngi, ibinabahagi ng DZMM ang pagkilala sa himpilan bilang isang ‘trusted’ o pinagkakatiwalaang brand hindi lamang sa anchors at production staff kundi sa mga tagapakinig nito.


“Talagang matamis itong unang pagkakataong kinilala kami bilang isang ‘trusted brand’ mula sa tanyag na Reader’s Digest. Napakagandang pagkilala sa atin nito,” aniya.


Kabilang ang DZMM sa mahigit 40 kumpanyang kinilala ng magazine mula sa walong bansa sa Asya.

Sa nakalipas na 14 taon, nagbibigay ng parangal ang *Reader’s Digest sa mga produkto o serbisyong pinaka-tinatangkilik at pinaka-pinagkakatiwalaan ng marami batay sa isang taunang consumer survey.

Enchong acts, swims, floats

Shortly after spiels and a brief dance number, actor-swimming champ Enchong Dee gamely dished on his onscreen and off-screen activities at a recent product launch in Jollibee, Roosevelt in Quezon City.

“I keep saying that I wish I could star in a biopic of Andres Bonifacio,” Dee enthused when asked about his dream role. “Ang dami-daming pelikula tungkol kay Jose Rizal,” he elaborated. “Why not make one about Andres Bonifacio? He fought for the country as much as Rizal. I’d gladly do that, given the chance; [a biopic] will last for a very long time. You have to show it to the kids who study history.”

No allergies

Dee discussed his ongoing Jollibee endorsement, which includes in-store appearances and the promotion of two new float flavors. He wouldn’t be endorsing cigarettes or products he doesn’t like any time soon, he said, and that his current fitness routine isn’t very strict.

“I’m so thankful that I have no food allergies,” he said. “I’m not obsessive about my fitness regimen; I just have to move more than I eat. I’m not the kind whose weight seesaws with dieting, tataba tapos papayat… I still swim when I get the chance.”

The 23-year-old admitted that shedding his “boyish image” can be difficult, as he had gotten used to roles for younger actors.

“At the moment, those kinds of characters are easier for me,” he said. “But yes, [I’m growing as an actor]. I have to constantly improve myself; I have to learn what my job is because if I don’t, I’ll get left behind.”

New show

The ABS-CBN talent will be appearing with Kim Chiu and Xian Lim in the new teleserye “Ina, Anak, Kapatid.” He said he respects all the directors that he works with, like his old coach, and appreciates the “freedom” that acting allows him.

“In both swimming and acting, you have to be smart. Being an athlete, there’s a strategy for everything. You have to attack a certain role [differently] than the one you previously did.”

The self-proclaimed “lola’s boy” acknowledges the continuous support of his family. Dee’s parents constantly remind him to remain humble amid his success, and to respect other people in the business. “Because they’re the ones who’ll help you,” he said. “They’ll lift you up. Kung mayabang ka, they’ll laugh at you if you fall.”

Mom’s way

As for courting 17-year-old actress Julia Montes, he revealed that his family is similarly respectful. “My mom never gets in the way even if she dislikes people who are special to me. She just gives advice. She knows how responsible Julia is, and she knows how much she loves her family. That’s the criteria of parents… it’s easy for us to appreciate.”

Nothing wrong with planned buyout of GMA 7, says Revillame

WILLIE Revillame let it slip that “something big” would happen in November.

LOS ANGELES, California—TV host Willie Revillame sees nothing wrong with the attempt of business tycoon Manny Pangilinan, chair of Media Quest Holdings Inc. which owns TV5, to buy another broadcast network, specifically GMA 7. “It just means more opportunities for more artists,” Revillame told reporters.

Pangilinan, who is also chair of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), has reportedly offered up to P45 billion for a 100-percent stake in the Kapuso network. The amount is still under negotiation.

Revillame let it slip that “something big” would happen in November 2012 in relation to the unprecedented deal.

Major changes

“If this will improve industry conditions, then I’m in favor of it,” he told the Inquirer during the after-party for “Wil Time Bigtime” at the Shrine Auditorium here.

Revillame was certain that major changes would follow if the acquisition pushed through. “Pwede nang magpalitan ng stars. It should be exciting to finally be able to work with artists from the other station, like the hosts of [the noontime game show] ‘Eat Bulaga.’” he said. “A new management [for GMA 7] would mean new plans and new programs. Both networks can help each other.”

The TV host said it was “natural” for people to react negatively to a new idea. “But this one is Mr. Pangilinan’s move and we must respect that.”

Revillame was in this city from May 24 to 26 to help launch the Kapatid network’s two international channels, Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International. With him during a media gathering held at the Scientology Celebrity Center were his fellow TV5 talents Nora Aunor, Aga Muhlach, Derek Ramsay, Ruffa Gutierrez and “Wil Time Bigtime” cohosts Mariel Rodriguez and Camille Villar.

Pleasant recall

During the May 26 show, Revillame gave away a total of $30,000 in cash prizes in the segments “Family Apir,” “Kantanong” and “Baligtaran.” A video on the show’s history was shown, starting with Revillame’s transfer from ABS-CBN to TV5, through the signing of what was reportedly a billion-peso contract with the Kapatid network, and finally ending with the reformat of “Willing Willie” to “Wil Time Bigtime.”

He said he didn’t mind people still referring to his TV5 show as “Wowowee,” the ABS-CBN production he hosted for over five years. “It was where I started. I became known to people because of that show. I’m pleased with the recall. It’s like I’ve planted something in a small pot, then transferred it to a bigger area to make sure it grows—it grew better on TV5 soil.”

Kapamilya taunt

What made him and his production team frown, Revillame said, was that ABS-CBN organized a fundraising show last week (“Para Sa Inyo, Kapamilya”) at the Home Depot Center in Carson City on the exact same date and time that they were in the United States.

Kapamilya stars Charice, Martin Nieverra, Xian Lim, Erik Santos and Kim Chiu performed in the event.

“We had announced our show way before that,” insisted Claro Carmelo Ramirez, president of Pilipinas Global Network Limited, TV5’s international arm. “We only want to make people happy. As they say, we’re here not to subtract, but to add, to give people more choices.”

ABS-CBN has operated The Filipino Channel (TFC), a Filipino subscription-based TV network for 12 years now and claims over two million subscribers worldwide.

Second event

An estimated 5,000 people came to watch “Wil Time Bigtime” at the 6,500-seat Shrine Auditorium on May 26. Also present at the event were Ramirez, Revillame’s business managers Vic del Rosario and Alfonso “Boy” Reyno Jr., his legal counsel Leonard de Vera, TV5 executive vice president and chief operating officer Bobby Barreiro, News 5 head Luchi Cruz-Valdes and TV host Erwin Tulfo.

The second of two launch events were held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on Saturday.

“We’re not here to compete [with ABS-CBN],” Revillame reiteratead. “We’re here to inspire more Filipinos. Bagong putahe naman ito.” PGNL and the US-based cable provider Dish Network inked a deal on Friday in San Francisco.
