    Hunter X Hunter Volume 16
    Story: 5/5
    Art: 5/5

Gon, Killua, and Biscuit decide to play the game seriously after their training and start collecting cards. The other teams in the group quickly form an alliance to prevent the Serial Bombers Team from winning the game. The players travel to Soufrabi, where they realize they fulfill the conditions to get the Hard-To-Get Card. The alliance has to beat the pirates in competitive sports and win eight games but most members of the alliance are useless. Gon’s team decides to come back with a group of stronger competitors to win Razor’s challenge. They find Hisoka, and Killua figures out that he's looking for a Nen Eraser in Greed Island. Gon’s team subsequently forms an alliance with Hisoka, Tsezguerra’s team, and some others. They win most of the games--halfway through, Razor changes the rules--if they win a Dodgeball game, they can get the card.

There were some very interesting panels when the boys reached Hisoka, who was taking a bath at a lake. By taking a bath, I mean only his knees were submerged but he was naked. After he greets the boys and calls them his little fruits (and gets his happy smile on), the images for those in the manga where his body (with the speech bubble conveniently placed), the boys expressions suddenly change and one of their comrades calls Hisoka a pervert. THIS MANGA, I CAN'T EVEN.

    Hunter X Hunter Volume 17
    Art: 3.5/5
    Story: 5/5

The dodgeball game continues with both sides quickly losing members. I was a bit disappointed with this because Biscuit was pretty useless all around but she's so powerful! Ugh. Gon uses his new Nen technique, shocking everyone with his power. The final three in the ring--Killua, Gon and Hisoka team up and manage to defeat Razor and earn the card. I really enjoyed that scene, seeing Hisoka so ready to go with whatever and him having fun playing without killing anyone.

Genthru threatens Tsezguerra and Gon's teams for the cards. The alliance forms a plan to lead Genthru in a trap, led by strategist Tsezguerra. Gon and Killua will have three weeks to heal and train.

Hisoka meets up with the Ryodan, who's found the Nen Eraser Abengane. Tsezguerra's final stage is to go back to the Battera mantion only to find out that the contract has been cancelled. They do not return. The bomb devils begin attacking Gon's team.

Battera's story broke my heart. To use that much money and to believe in something that sounds so fanciful (but does exist) just to try to save a life... T____T I enjoyed this volume a lot. I don't like sports, and it went too technical again when describing their dodgeball rules, but it was fun reading about how the team cooperated, especially with Hisoka in the mix. Bigger character than Leorio, yes he is.

    Hunter X Hunter Volume 18
    Story: 5/5
    Art: 4/5

The trio split up with their respective Bomber enemy. Biscuit and Killua defeat their opponents (Biscuit reveals her true form). Gon gets hit repeatedly according to a plan. Their plan succeeds and they capture the Bomb Devils.

They collect all the cards from the Devils which triggers an event for the #000 card--a multiple choice quiz open to all the players. The highest scorer will receive the card.

That was pretty funny, in the end, to have a multiple choice quiz. The trio complete the game and Gon meets more of his father's friends. Greed Island was a fun arc to follow, and is probably my second favorite after the Hunter Exam arc.

    Review:
Lacey Farrell, a successful real estate agent, witness the murder of Isabelle Waring, who's daughter recently died from an "accident". Reading her daughter's journal, Isabelle didn't believe that it was just an accident, making her a target of her daughter's killers. Obviously the next target, Lacey has to assume a different identity while the police works on the case. While living in a different city, she continues helping the victims. There she meets Tom, a dashing radio announcer who's cousin might just help her in solving the case.

I've been reading a lot of Mary Higgins Clark books lately, and this book's ending is a little bit predictable. It doesn't have much action but it's fine read nevertheless.

    Review:
Karl Vladimir Lennon J. Villalobos, or Intoy is friends with school transferee (and heartthrob) Jenny for more than a year. From more than a year, they have been also bed partners without any emotional attachment. Little did Jenny know that Intoy already has feelings for her. Just when Intoy is ready to declare his feelings, Jenny dropped the bomb that she's pregnant, and Intoy's not the father. After the revelation, Jenny stopped attending school and stopped communicating with Intoy.

Intoy struggles with surviving his heartbreak while searching for a job after graduating and contemplating the 'what-ifs' if he was brave enough to tell Jenny earlier on how much he loves her.

I had mixed emotions after reading the book, I was annoyed but entertained by the humor.

This book speaks of the current situation that some people don't want to discuss: sexual relationship without attachments.

    This is a must-read (for adults) !

funny, disturbing and unforgettable. haunted is a novel made up of poems and short stories. the main story circles around 17 people who joined in a writer's retreat, ostracizing themselves from the outside world for 3 months. all characters have their stories to tell, including mr whittier, the organizer.

i have read guts about 2 years ago and have never forgotten it. this is only my 2nd palahniuk, the 1st being stranger than fiction. the stories i love most are guts, exodus and hot potting.

    57. Darkly Dreaming Dexter
    Jeff Lindsay
    June 10, 2012
    Rating : 3/5

This was not as gory as I thought it would be. It wasn't overly descriptive and it had a sense of unreality to it. Compared to the true crime novels I've been reading lately--real, horrible crimes described and done to real, living, people, this seemed less, I don't know, realistic? Yes, the way the bodies are found are gory and frankly, really creative but it's desensitized--the victims don't feel like they're human and are just bodies--no families to cry over them, no backstories, no 'I-ended-up-in-Bluebeard's-castle-because-working-there-would-give-the-family-money-and-honor'. And then it's told from Dexter's point of view, who doesn't identify himself as human (although some parts in the book prove otherwise) and continually refers to himself as a monster. He has also appeared accepted his killing urges by referring to it as his "Dark Passenger", as a "backseat driver" who urges him to kill, and he is subject to its whims. Does that make it okay? Maybe it helps him sleep at night, thinking of it that way (even if he as the narrator maintains that he doesn't have a conscience). At least Elizabeth Bathory was honest--let me torture these maidens and kill them so I can use their blood to make my skin look younger.

The writing is engaging. Most of the parts that have suspense in them usually have Dexter in a trance-like state, which is just a little bit annoying because it doesn't feel real, like things are only happening in a dream. I'd have also liked to read more about Dexter's victims, in a way that gives the readers more details about what Dexter is killing them for. The two times Dexter killed in this novel, the reasons were alluded to and briefly mentioned, but weren't delved into enough. Sure, he was convinced they were also serial killers but we never got to see his process of "researching" his victims and proving they're guilty of the crimes.

And it will sound weird but for a book about crime and death and sociopaths and blood, the humor during normal conversations in this book is funny.

before i go to sleep is sj watson's debut novel. it is a psychological thriller about a woman with amnesia. she wakes up everyday without remembering who she is and can only make new memories until she falls asleep again. she is helped everyday by her husband and a doctor who she consults with. this doctor gave her back a journal that she is working on to help her cope with amnesia. however, as she reads her journal, she gets more questions than answers.

dragging at some parts, but overall a nice read. the ending is a bit rushed and will leave you wanting for more.

This is definitely better written than most books of this genre. The mystery was easy to solve, though I applaud the writer for unraveling it the way he did--he didn't introduce the suspect until midway through, and didn't let the real reason show up until the end, so when he did it, it was a bit obvious even with the curveballs he tried to throw. Or maybe that's just me, I pick up context clues quickly and there aren't a lot of books that surprise me.

It's an all right read compared to most books, and it's pretty good/very good compared to most LGBT books. The best thing about this is the 'mystery' took precedence over the romance.

I enjoyed this. This was much better written than the first one, although there were still a couple of awkward parts in dialogue and even if part of the plot was supposed to be scary, it wasn't at all. Despite that, the story was intriguing and the character development was great. This also had a better balance between mystery and romance (the first one was 99% mystery). Honestly, while the mystery is good and interesting, it's the relationship between Adrien and Jake that keeps me wanting to read more of this series. On to the next book!

I already have all the copy of the entire series but after reading the first one I don't think i'll pick up the next installment. But just to get to say that i've read the book, maybe i'll read it. If i'm get bored then maybe.
