Proof that somehow you understood what you have read, ant to practice writing. Shouldn't be so hard.

    good suggestion yung mini-review.

also, if i might add (since forum naman ito and as mentioned, to "liven it up" or more "interactive"), maganda rin siguro na kung nalalabuan o merong part dun sa book na medyo hindi naintindihan, post it here. at para dun sa mga nakabasa, share nyo thoughts ninyo.

@PINOY what are you planning to read this 2012. I'm still looking for interesting titles and it would be better if some of us will have similar titles so we can discuss them here.

    Sali ako!

I'm currently reading Steve Jobs. I actually started reading book in December but I'm just halfway through it as of this morning. Will post a mini review when I'm done.

    50 books in 2012! Hehe

Everyone's welcome. I'll try to get a copy of that within the month so we can discuss the said book in detail.

    Is that an autobiography?

    1. Kitchen - Banana Yoshimoto

"Truly great people emit a light that warms the hearts ofthose around them. When that light has been put out, a heavy shadow of despair descends."

Back in '09 I read the novella "Kitchen" in ebook form, and just today while bookhunting at Booksale (where else) I realized it was only half the package. Turns out the book has 2 separate novellas in it (surprise!). The other half was "Moonlight Shadow" which I have just read. Both are love stories that tap lightly on death and mourning. Yoshimoto is like the Japanese Amy Tan with a stroke of Murakami in my opinion, the way she evokes modern existential (feminine) angst ofthe young Japanese. We see them endure pains and the very weird ways they cope. But in the hands of Yoshimoto, thanks to her casual and unconceited tone, we see less and feel more.

No, it is not an autobio. Walter Isaacson wrote the bio. Yes, you should get a copy. Steve's life is interesting and Isaacson's organization of the material is masterful.

Quick question: How important is Useless the Elder and Useless the Younger in the story?
The book is about a thief, Eugenides who was caught and imprisoned by the king of Sounis. The king's magus one day comes to Gen's prison cell with a proposal to steal a treasure on the enemy kingdom of Attolia. This treasure is no ordinary treasure, this treasure can steal a kingdom. But the task is not easy, even for a thief who can steal anything!
In scale of 1-5. I would rate the book 4. It would be nice if there would be a map included in the book. The setting is medieval, with lands ruled by kings (and queens too!). Included are myth stories in their world which I find interesting. There are also a lot of twists and surprises in the story which had me laughing. It didn't disappoint.
As for the two uselessess, the younger useless is important because he is the future heir to Sounis. The elder one is a traitor. They both have stories of their own which the writer only partially revealed. I guess that in the next books we'll know more about useless the younger.

    1. The Thief- Megan Whalen Turner
    2. Hunger Games- Suzanne Collins
Staged in a future civilization called Panem, the hunger games is the first book of the famous Trilogy YA book by Suzanne Collins. This is about a girl, Katniss who is forced to join a brutal deathmatch when her sister was picked, thereby replacing her. This is a story what it takes to survive.
At first I had a doubt on starting on this book. I'm not the type who reads more famous titles (I prefer finding hidden gems). What can I say. I'd rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. We have here a kickass heroine with an unpredictable loverboy partner, Peeta. Medyo love story-action-drama type na may halong social concepts. Who would not hate the capitol? It is fast- paced so you wouldn't notice that you are done reading the book. Enjoyed the book but I guess I have to continue with the next 2 books to fully apppreciate it. (and the movie too!)

thekaisermarc, when will you be reading the next book of the series.

Oh the Hunger Games, can we talk about that in this thread later? I'm sure a lot of you guys have read that already.

Just realized, 50 books for 2012 would mean 1 book almost a week, and I'll have two weeks more or less as buffer. Make that one week, since the world ends December and we'll be missing that final week of the year. Darn it inubos pa tuloy oras ko, bwiset na end of the world yan.

Darn it, I have a book scheduled na to start with, masimulan ko lang, ok na ko.

started reading it on the 1st, along with the thief since i was all alone in the holidays and got books for company. started on catching fire today, katuloy nung HG. i think my curiosity on this book got the better of me. may trailer na rin kasi for the movie. if this wasn't YA, hindi rin siguro ganaanong mapapansin. If adults (and not teens 12-16!) were the ones involved in the games, I think it would be different.

    2.Dangadang - Aurelio Agcaoili

Napakagandang historical novel. Parang pinagsamang buru quartet ni pramoedya ananta toer at hundred years of solitude ni gabriel garcia marquez pero mas rehiyonal. Kwentong kailokohan.
