Biography
Early life
He dropped out of school when he decided to become a singer. During his school days, he played bass guitar as a member of a band. During the years of 2001–2 when he was 14–15, whilst working as a waiter in a family restaurant, located at Jamsil-dong, he was introduced to a new set up management company CEO. Initially he was to debut in a 5 member group. Han Yeon of B2Y (now disbanded) was to be the Leader and Kim the maknae. While the group underwent training together, they were asked by their company to debut in China as a Hallyu project group, but the group rejected the offer and disbanded. Kim proceeded to audition for DSP Media (formerly DSP Entertainment) and became a member and leader of SS501. Kim went back to school and graduated in 2006 after debuting as SS501. In 2011, he enrolled in Chungwoon University to study stage production management.[3]
2005: Debut
SS501
On 8 June 2005, Kim made his entertainment debut as the leader of SS501. The group appeared in the 2006 show, Thank You For Waking Me Up where he was proven to be a heavy sleeper, and the MNet show Idol World in 2007, in which SS501 did various activities in Japan.
In May 2008, Kim joined the cast of We Got Married in episode nine. Known as the "Lettuce Couple", Hyun Joong and Hwang Bo went on to win MBC's Best Couple Award. The couple made their official exit from the show in episode 38, on 14 December 2008, due to scheduling conflicts with Boys Over Flowers.
2009: Acting, Boys Over Flowers and H1N1
Whilst in Japan, in 2008, Kim was casted as Yoon Ji Hoo in the Korean drama Boys Over Flowers. Where he won Best Actor Award at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2009[1] and Popularity Award at the 45th PaekSang Arts Awards.[2]
In 2009, SS501 released the album SS501 Collection, in which they each sang a solo song, along with being featured in a mini drama music video. Their Asia Concert Tour began in mid-August 2009 in Seoul at the Olympic Park. They continued their tour in Shanghai, Taipei, Bangkok before returning to Seoul for a closing encore concert. They staged two concerts for the encore closure on the 27th Feb and 28th Feb 2010 respectively.
In September 2009, during promotions in in Yokohama, Japan for Boys Over Flowers, Kim was diagnosed with H1N1. He was treated in a Toyko hospital and was discharged on 15 September 2009.[4] While recovering from H1N1, he could not attend the Seoul International Drama Awards. To accept the award on his behalf, his members of SS501: Heo Young Saeng, Kim Kyu Jong, and Kim Hyung Jun were present for the award show.
He has also been the spokesperson for cosmetics brand, Tony Moly, an established company with numerous branches across Korea and Asia, including Taiwan and Hong Kong. He had since ended his contract with Tony Moly in End September 2010, and he had been chosen to be the Spokesperson for The Face Shop.
2010: SS501 comeback and leaving DSP Media
In April 2010, he appeared opposite Jung Ryeo Won in the music video for Korean Singer Gummy's new song "As A Man" (남자라서).
In June 2010, SS501 released an album titled Destination, produced by Steven Lee. Their title song "Love Ya" was well received, rating high in record sales and online music stores, and it went on to top Music Bank's K-Chart. However they ended promotions after two weeks, because SS501's contract with DSP Media ended.
On 19 June 2010, he then appeared at a concert in the Philippines along side BEAST.
On 28 June 2010, it was announced that Kim has officially left DSP Media and joined Bae Yong Joon's KeyEast Entertainment company.[5] Although Kim has left DSP Media he stated that SS501's activities will be top priority in their contracts.[6] and definitely has not disbanded. Kim explained in an interview that, at the time, there weren't a company that would accepted them as a whole, thus the group decided to take the chance to focus on their solo activities.
Kim played the lead role in the drama Playful Kiss, a Korean adaptation of Japanese shōjo manga Itazura na Kiss as Baek Seung Jo, who has a stand-offish personality. On the 7 November, Kim was interviewed by CNN's Anna Coren due to his success in Playful Kiss. Playful Kiss Special Edition is a big hit on Youtube as it is the first Korean drama to air on YouTube. Its first episode garners 1 million views just in 5 days and it proves so popular that there is a record channel view of 6.3 million and 17.5 million total upload views.
Kim was invited to perform at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou as the representative of South Korea to sing "Sunshine Again" with other 3 other singers from Chinese-speaking countries.[7] In the early of December 2010, Kim went to Singapore and Malaysia to promote The Face Shop.
2011: Solo artist
In May, Kim named his official solo fanclub 'Henecia', which is a combination of 'H' and the Latin term 'benecia', which means 'blessed'.[8]
On 8 June 2011, Kim released his first solo debut mini album, Break Down. It was produced by Steven Lee, who composed SS501's hits, "Love Like This" and "Love Ya". The title track "Break Down", featuring Double K., is a high energy dance track, with a R&B heavy "Please", as the second lead track. The album exceeded 70,000 pre-ordered copies in 10 days.[9] It peaked at number one on Gaon Weekly Album Chart for the week starting 5 June 2011[10] and was the best-selling album for June on Gaon Monthly Album Chart with 100,433 copies sold. It also top the Oricon chart in Japan in the International Imported Album category for the first week of July.[11] The album's title track "Break Down" was the first place winner for two consecutive weeks on Mnet's M! Countdown music show, for 16 and 23 June 2011; and also won for two consecutive weeks on KBS's Music Bank.[12] Break Down is certified platinum in Taiwan and Kim was presented with a platinum record by Warner Music Taiwan CEO Chen Ze Shan in a press conference held in Taiwan.[13]
Kim was also the first Korean to appear on Taiwanese TV show The Person. In July 2011, he also held the first of his nationwide concert in Japan. In August 2011, Kim Hyun Joong starts his Asian Tour, and become the new Ambassador of Seoul.The tour continued from November in seven cities across Japan: Sapporo, Sendai, Hiroshima, Yokohama, Nagoya, Tokyo and Fukuoka.[14]
On 11 October 2011, Kim released his second mini album Lucky. It debut at number 5 on Billboard's World Chart.[15] It topped the Gaon Chart again for the third week of October, 2011 and was the highest selling album in Hanteo Album Sales Chart for the month of October, 2011. On 25 October 2011, Kim released a digital single together with Seohyun entitled "The Magic of Yellow Ribbon", which is the theme song of a commercial for The Face Shop. On 28 October, He along with Ha Ji Won acted as emcee at the 2011 K-Pop Super Concert held at Gwangalli Beach in Busan, which was broadcast on SBS on 6 November.[16]
In November 2011, Kim won the 2011 KIA Soul People’s Choice award "Style Icon Award" for the third consecutive year.[17] On 9 November Kim announced at a press conference for his Japan Tour that he has signed a deal with Universal Music Japan for his Japan-based music activities.[18] Kim had successfully completed his Japan Tour that started on 9th of November, attracting over 30,000 fans. Kim won the Best Male Solo Artist in the 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards that was held in Singapore.
On December 15th 2011, Kim released his digital album : Marry You/Marry Me. The digital album consists of 4 songs, namely Marry Me, Marry You, Marry Me (instrumental) and Marry You (instrumental). The music videos for Marry Me and Marry You have both been released on his official Youtube account on 15th December 2011 12 AM KST. On December 20, KHJ received 4 awards from Yahoo ( Yahoo Buzz Artist in Taiwan,Hongkong and Korea, and most search solo artist.
SS501‘s Kim Hyun Joong has announced that the official name for his new fanclub will be “Henecia“!
KeyEast Entertainment opened a fanclub naming contest for fans to submit their suggestions to. Over 500 names were submitted, and fans were asked to vote for a final three. Kim Hyun Joong then chose his favorite out of the three and revealed that it was “Henecia”, a combination of the letter ‘H’ from his name, and the Latin term ‘benecia‘, which means ‘blessed’.
Through his official homepage, KeyEast wrote, “We will now be taking members for ‘Henecia’, the new fanclub that’ll promote alongside Kim Hyun Joong’s solo album.”
The fanclub was created under Kim Hyun Joong’s hopes of communicating more directly with his fans during his upcoming solo debut. Membership is open to not only Korean fans, but international fans as well, and various benefits will be handed out.

We met him in different times, at different stages of his career. Some met him since his SS501 days. Others met him during the showing of We Got Married, where he played the role of the young groom together with Hwang Bo, another singer who was his wife in the series. I met him as well as many others in Boys over Flowers. He was Yoon Jihoo in that drama. There were converted fans when he became Baek Seung Jo in the Playful Kiss, the Korean drama that was its third interpretaion of what originally a Japanese manga. The latest fans must have been mesmerized with Hyun Joong during the launching of his solo albums Breakdown and Lucky.
Though Hyun Joong came into our lives in various periods we all backtracked to look at his personal history and career path. We investigated him and by doing so discovered facts and figures as well as myths about him that many afterwards became virtual walking Hyun Joong encyclopedias. It is amazing how many fans knew and remembered what he said in numerous occassions, events, and incidents. Many can recite by heart his past health issues,funny remarks and jokes that earned him being the 4D man. Fans were aware of his sad and crying moments,the tough times,his so-called past love life, who were his childhood friends and friends in the entertainment industry, his rebellious school days, his family dynamics, his personal preferences when it comes to girls,drinking and sleeping habits, score in soccer games, his Uzoosin creation, etc,etc. If there is a degree of Bachelor of Science, major in Hyun Joong, many would qualify to graduate with top honors.
As a consequence of different times of arrival in Hyun Joong’s world we came to develop our own preferences and biases. In the fandom lingo,there are camps according to certain ships that has nothing to do with the maritime industry. There are special groups by virtue of their association and clubs. There are fans who know each other personally.There are fans who have formed online communities and its members eventually met face to face. While some have remained just that online friends and stayed time and space challenged.
It is not difficult to look for information on and about Hyun Joong. The internet is a mine field where blogs both dedicated and generic on Kpop exist in numbers containing current articles and pictures on his latest activities as well as those archived. These pictures are both genuine as well as photoshopped ones. Uploaded videos in Youtube are updated very often by fans forever on the Hyun Joong lookout. Other social media sites are resource rich on information tracking down Hyun Joong’s whereabouts. The amont of data generated on him must be staggering it could fill a library. And his clothes and paraphernalia will need a museum.
But beneath all the ruckus and everything else fans do for him or in his behalf, somewhere lies where the fascination began with Hyun Joong. How did he came into her/his life? Each fan must have a a story -a love story. Let us begin …
It has been reported that Kim Hyun Joong has secretly donated 100 million won to help people in need.
On December 26, a spokesperson for the Red Cross reported that Kim donated 50 million won to the Red Cross in early November before his concert tour in Japan.
Kim also donated 50 million won to the Briquette Delivery of Love. After secretly donating total 100 million won, he went to Japan for his two-week concert tour.
A spokesperson for the Red Cross said, “In early or mid-November, Kim’s manager visited us without any previous notice and donated 50 million won to help people in need. He asked us not to let other people know about this.”
Regarding this, a spokesperson for Keyeast, Kim’s agency, said, “Because he did it personally, we didn’t know about it. We think he just didn’t want to make a big deal out of it.”
Kim has been very popular in this year, releasing two mini albums and ranking first in domestic music charts and TV music programs. He is also releasing a single album in Japan through Universal Japan on January 25 next year. He is already receiving attention from the Japanese music scene and advertising industry.
Kim is holding a fan meeting in Seoul in January next year, and then, he is going to start performing and promoting his first Japanese single album.

Early last November, a person came here and handed us a white envelope from Kim Hyun Joong.
At first, I thought I saw it was 5 million won, but when I looked closely into the envelope again, I realised it was actually 50 million won. We were shocked by the amount and so questioned him in detail. He said that Kim Hyun Joong was deeply touched by what he saw during his briquette donation last year (OKT: remember when he personally delivered the pieces?) he promised that he would do it again this year. But he was too busy to do it again this time because of his overseas schedule.
So he was really sorry about that and he promised to take part in the delivery next year. He asked us to distribute the 50 million won to those senior citizens who live alone and in poor neighbourhoods. Also, he asked us not to say anything to the media about this donation so we couldn't post this story on our homepage. But today, there was a news article out. Maybe the Red Cross revealed it.
I was thinking since the story was out already, I wanted to post it here too.

On December 15th, singer Kim Hyun Joong released a new digital single called “Marry Me” through numerous Korean music sites.
Kim Hyun Joong personally took part in the production process because he wanted to thank fans for their support in making his solo debut such a success. He also asked fans to share photos of the happiest moments in their lives, which were incorporated into his music video.
The MV shows the selected photos near the end, after it finishes telling the story of a couple’s love through the years.

Kim Hyun Joong and Suzy surprised the crowd at the ’2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards’ (2011 MAMA) with a joint performance.
At the 2011 MAMA at Singapore Indoor Stadium on November 29th, Kim Hyun Joong presented a stage for the fans right after winning the Male Artist Award.
During the performance, Kim Hyun Joong came down from the stage and reached out his hand to Suzy, and Suzy, as if she’s been waiting, grabbed Kim Hyun Joong’s hand and stepped on to the stage for a great dance together.
Kim Hyun Joong and Suzy had matching outfits in black and Suzy’s black mini dress in particular was absolutely cute.

Kim Hyun Joong stood proud as a hallyu star in Singapore, as many foreign media outlets rushed to report his every word.
Kim was bombarded with questions at the welcome meeting event held in Singapore on November 29 for the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA).
Kim will be attending MAMA as a nominee for both the Male Singer Award and the Best Solo Dance Performance Award, and at the press conference, he received questions from press from Korea, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan and Germany.
Everyone seemed to be interested on whether Kim had any plans to visit their own country, and showed great interest in Kim’s future plans for overseas promotions.
When the Hong Kong press asked whether he had any plans to visit Hong Kong, Kim said, “I visited Hong Kong because I was awarded for three years in a row at the Yahoo Asia Buzz Awards which [awards its nominees based on] online polls. I hope I get to go this year, too.”
The Philippine press asked whether he had any new projects for his Philippine fans, and he answered, “I’ll be acting again in a drama in April next year. My Philippine fans will also be able to see me act then.”
The Japanese press wished to know how he felt about being a solo singer and what kind of music he wished to sing in the future. Kim said, “It’s true that solo promotions are physically and emotionally more draining than group promotions. I still have a long way to go, but I’ll work harder.”
The German press asked Kim what he thought about German women. He answered, “I don’t know about German women, but Germany reminds me of dark beer and sausages.” He made his audience laugh by saying, “I believe that Germans drink a lot of dark beer even during lunch.”
The 2011 MAMA will hold a grand show in Singapore with not only Korean artists, but artists from around the world to fit its main concept Music Makes One, a dream to bring the world together through music. The show will be aired live in 13 countries around the world, while recorded versions will be aired in seven.
Kim Hyun Joong collaborated with a world-renowned jewelry designer Justin Davis.
Justin Davis, who worked in collaboration with Kim, is a world-renowned fashion jewelry brand loved by the world celebrities such as Eminem, Paris Hilton, Amuro Namie, and Hamasaki Ayumi. It is well known as a trendy but classy brand.

Kim is going to meet his fans at the 2011 Kim Hyun Joong Fan Meeting in Seoul that takes place at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium on January 21 at 6 p.m. next year.
At the fan meeting, Kim is going to perform some of his songs from his first mini album, Break Down, and his second mini album, Lucky. He will also have a talk with his fans to closely interact with them.
Kim’s domestic and overseas fans are enthusiastically responding to him as he has announced that the fan meeting will be his first schedule of 2012. Many fans from diverse countries are planning to attend his fan meeting.

Singer Kim Hyun Joong makes time together with the fans to start the new year.
Kim Hyun Joong will be holding ’2012 Kim Hyun Joong Fan Meeting in Seoul’ on January 21st, 2012 at the Jamshil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul.
Kim Hyun Joong is planning to present colorful performances of some of the songs off of his first mini album ‘Break Down’ and the second mini album ‘Lucky Guy’ at the ’2012 Kim Hyun Joong Fan Meeting in Seoul’. Kim Hyun Joong will also spend some time together with the fans to feel closer to each other.
The Korean and overseas fans are already zeroing in and when the tickets went on sale for the fan meeting on December 21st, there were upwards of 10,000 people trying to connect at once resulting in all seats being sold out within 30 minutes. The requests for more dates from the fans who have not been able to purchase the tickets are pouring in.
Kim Hyun Joong’s management company, KeyEast representative relayed, “Kim Hyun Joong is really looking forward to the day to meet with the fans. Even with the busy year end schedule, Kim Hyun Joong is working hard to prepare for a cool memory with the fans. You can bet on it.”

On December 22, Kim’s agency Keyeast reported that Kim is currently receiving attention from the music and advertising industries in Korea and Japan even before his single album release in Japan through Universal Japan.
Kim is already a TV commercial king in Korea and overseas countries. He is currently working as a model of clothing, cosmetics, jewelry, snack, and beauty brands. Also new exclusive modelling contracts for alcoholic beverage, home appliance, and food service brands are now under discussion.
Because he once topped the Oricon Chart, beating Lady Gaga and Beyonce, after the release of his first solo album, Break Down, many people are paying attention to his activities after his single album release.
Kim is holding a fan meeting in Seoul in January next year and releasing a single album in Japan.

I went the Tokyo concerts Sunday afternoon and evening, it was great. I was at the fifth row for the afternoon, only 9 steps to the stage (I measured it). Didn`t dare to take out the camera to take pictures, but used my iphone to take notes, will write a detailed FA later today.
THanks for all the translations, I only understand a little bit what HJ said, and his answers pleased the crowd very much. He looked tired during the evening session, his voice lower than afternoon, but he was very high at encore.
Bae Yong Joon sent flowers Sunday, I was taking pictures of the floweres and wonder whether BYJ sent flowers (I didn:t see any on Saturday), then I saw whole bunch women (older ones) taking picture of this particular red flower stand, heard them whispering "Yongsama", the king still rules.
For the afternoon session, HJ tossed a colorful hat to audience and it landed on my right, three Japanese women jumped up and fought for it, I mean really fought for it on the ground. OMG, it`s quite a scene, 3 properly behaved Japanese women fought tooth and nail for a hat, after several minutes (that long), the lady next to me won, she held it tight. When the concert ended, she ran out fast, as the other two women still tried to pry the hat from her, LOL.
When HJ left the venue, he was filming the fans, his van left first. Starlings, he is staying at the hotel we stayed last year for the first love story fan meeting. They ate in the hotel, the dancers and staff brought water and food in. Not sure if they went out later.

Kim Hyun Joong 1st Japan Tour
Tokyo International Forum-Hall A
Today is the day, I get to watch TWO Hyun Joong concerts, very excited waking up. It rained yesterday and proved Hyun Joong/SS501 are truly rain god. But today the sun is out and the weather is very good, makes me more cheerful.
It doesn’t long for me to get to the International Forum, I get there a little after 10. The first concert starts at 1:30pm so I thought I would be early, oh, boy, am I wrong. When I exit the subway station, a couple hundred Japanese fans have already lined up the sidewalks in an orderly manner across the street. I decide to stay on this side of the street and get myself a prime spot. We wait patiently, more and more fans come out of the subways station with each train arrival.
At 1100ish, men in black make their presence and start to rope off the sidewalks, that means wuri star is coming. Soon, big vans with tinted windows start to arrive, they make a left turn in front of me and enter the forum parking lot. They all have tinted windows, so it’s impossible to see inside. One van came with a cameraman standing through the sunroof filming the fans, we all cheer and wave happily. I am sure they will use some footage for 1st Tour DVD, so I may have a slim chance to see myself for 1/10th second, wishful thinking. The last two vans are gray, the kind Hyun Joong rides in Japan, so it seems everyone knows even though the windows are not rolled down. Fans call out his name and wave madly, I am sure he can see us and feel our love.
As soon as these two gray vans enter the underground, the guards take off the ropes and the crowd starts to move to the Forum Hall A where the concert is held. It’s a very nice venue and is the largest among his tour locations, it has two floors and holds 5000 seats. All tickets for the three additional Tokyo concerts were sold out and it’s quite an achievement. Some tickets with good seats were auctioned for over 50,000 yen. The tickets are not cheap by any means but still hard to get. Fortunately I have a wonderful cousin in Japan and she was able to get some tickets for me after several attempts. One time online ticket sale started at 10am, she and her husband started to dial the numbers using 4 different phones at 09:57, but they couldn’t get connected for 10 minutes, and all the tickets were gone by the time they were able to get connected. For the additional Tokyo concerts, Henecia membership (additional fee) was required to apply for tickets, so my each ticket costs 50%. The tickets are quite expensive even by Japan standards. My cousin mentioned even many famous Japanese singers charge no more than 7000 yen per concert. When I was in Hiroshima I saw a concert schedule and fee posted in the venue where Hyun Joong’s concert was held, Japanese singer concert tickets 5,000-6,000yen, DBSK 8,500 yen (the highest and the only one sold out). So in a way, wuri star has made it selling out all his concerts.
Sorry about the sidetrack, back to the concert venue. I follow the crowd towards the venue and I want to get a lightstick since the one I bought in Seoul was broken. I get in the hall and see a long line is already formed, it must be the line to buy souvenirs, so I stand at the end of the line like an orderly Japanese fan. But the line doesn’t move at all for 20 minutes, I finally realize this is actually the line for entrance for the concert. Why do they even line up even everyone has a ticket with a seat number? The concert starts at 1:30pm and they will let us in at 12:30, and right now it’s only past 11. I don’t understand at all but I am not willing to give up my spot, so I wait patiently in line for a seat will be mine regardless when I get in. There are notes for fans to write question for Hyun Joong and he will also pick some lucky fans to go on stage. I write down my question and seat number and drop the note in the box.
At 12:30 sharp, the staff let us in, each fan is handed a plastic bags with DATV flyers. They also put up signs no photo no video, each bag is inspected. But I have a new camera hidden underneath my scarf in the bag and I hope to take some close up pictures. I rush up the escalator, but another line is formed quickly in front of me, the one for souvenirs. I line up again, they are selling towels with HJ’s name too, I want that too. But right before it is my turn, they put “sold out” stickers on the lightstick and towel, I can’t believe this, I end up settling on a fan. Again, I don’t understand why they always sell limited amount of stuff like this, they could’ve made much more money and more fans happy. I can only sigh, I will have nothing to wave.
Anyway, I go into the hall, it’s very large inside, each seat is spacious and comfortable. I am so lucky my seat is at the 5th row, to the right side. It’s only 9 steps to the stage (I measured it, ^.^) I have a very good view of the stage, I don’t dare to take out my camera, so I use my iphone to take pictures of the stage and my seat, but one security guard stops me right away. Aigoo, it doesn’t look like I will be able to take any pictures, I hope MurderQ or Ahila will be in attendance because they always take wonderful pictures regardless where.
I notice the crowd is younger than the one I attended last year for 1st Love Story fan meeting. Everyone seems very happy and whole hall is filled with excitement. The seats start to fill up quickly. There’s a big screen on stage and 2 smaller ones on each side. Hyun Joong’s songs are playing and his CFs for Seoul ambassador and Japan Thermwear are showed too. Time passes quickly, 1:30 came and went, no signs of Hyun Joong. The crowd starts to get restless and starts chanting “Kim Hyun Joong, Kim Hyun Joong”. Finally at 1:40pm, the music for “Let it go” starts, everyone is on her feet screaming and waving. My seat is quite close to the speakers and the sound is quite loud. Finally, a figure emerged, wuri star stands on the raised platform, dressed in a black military suit. He walked down the stairs to the main stage while singing, this is the first time I watch him performing this song, even though I have watched the videos many times. To watch him performing live is always so much better, he is a very good dancer. His hair yellow and curly, kind of long too. He dances with full energy and sings most of the lyrics live. This is a short song though.
Next is “Breakdown”. I have watched it live several times in Seoul and enjoyed it tremendously. His moves are precise and smooth, but somehow I am used to the costume and hairstyle back then, so it is a little strange to see him dance with yellow hair and that costume. I have to say I like the image in June better. He has lost some weight, his face is smaller and his legs are getting skinnier, his black pant look quite loose on him especially the thigh part. Oh, how I wish to watch the 20’s choice performance, those arms, abs, legs, drool. Having to perform so many concerts in such a short time has taken a toll on his body I think. Anyway, his performance is still excellent, the whole concert hall is on fire, fans sing along and chant “break down break down”. This one always gets my heart pumping faster.
After Breakdown, Hyun Joong gets off the stage to change, “Please” MV behind the scene is showing on the screen. This is the first time I see the part where they shoot on the rooftop at night, he was so focused during the shoot. When the MV finishes, Hyun Joong is on stage again, he is in a different outfit, white shirt, black jacket and black sparkling pants. As usual, the dance is good, to watch him perform is truly enjoyment to the eyes. I glue my eyes to him and don’t even think about taking any pictures. The fans remain standing and wave lightsticks. I look around, half of the lightsticks are the green U:zoosin with the alien, and half are the multi-color one for the tour, it’s quite a scene to see thousands of green and white lightsticks waving at unison.
Next song is Thank You. He has sang this song many times over the years, and his singing has improved loads. After several dance songs, he is sweating profusely, I can actually see sweats dripping from his face. He signs with his whole body and you can feel his passion. Again, the fans sing along as well.
It’s talk time after Thank You. The MC and translator (2 ladies) come on stage, it’s about 1:55pm. They bring 3 white triangle stools for them to sit. Hyun Joong uses an orange towel to wipe his face. I notice his handsome bodyguard standing on the side of the stage the whole time, is he still scanning the crowd and looking for any signs of troubles? No rest for him either, he is indeed a good bodyguard.
(Note: please do not repost this part.The talk session lasts quite LONG, till 2:45pm, almost an hour, To be honest, initially I was a little disappointed at the limited number of songs in previous concerts and was hoping he would sing all songs in his two mini albums, the long talk makes it more like a fan meeting than an actual concert. I want to see a full concert, held in a stadium with better stage set up. But I understand that he doesn’t have enough songs to hold a full concert yet. After watching him sweating so much, I was actually quite relieved that he got a chance to sit down and rest a little bit. Maybe next year, after some more albums, he could have a full scale concert, in Olympic stadium, in Budokon, or even Tokyo Dome. I believe he can sell out Budokon for sure, and I will have to make more trips to Japan)
First part of the talk is questions about Tokyo (questions are slightly different between afternoon and evening sessions). There are translations about the talk and I won’t repeat here. I am glad I could understand a little more what he was saying thanks to all the Korean news and Korean dramas I have been watching. There are several funny parts:
- He was asked about dog, he imitated different dog barking sound (US, Japan and Korea), cutest to the max
- He asked about how cat meow in Japan, also imitated cow, sheep
- One question, he had to think and count with his fingers for a while, but ended up holding only 2 fingers.
- He is coming to play a soccer game in Japan next year.
His answers seem witty and funny, draw many laughter from fans, he knows how to please the crowd. He is definitely more confident and more matured than last year’s fan meeting. While he is listening, he constantly scans the audience and you can see how happy he is that every seat is filled and all the fans are cheering for him.
At 2:25pm, he picks 3 names from the drawing box, he is very playful and teases us before he reads out the seat number in Japanese, fans are like “Ahhh, Ohhh”. The lucky 3 are 2 women and one little girl. His face lights up when he sees the little girl, saying “Ibuda” (pretty in Korean), he also lifts up the little girl and carries her at fans’ request, so cute. The lucky 3 receive a gift from him, he shakes their hands and gives them a hug (which draw some protests from the audience).
At 2:43pm, the talking part is finished. He leaves the stage to change. His Japanese song “Smile” is playing and the screen is showing behind the scene for his 2012 calendar shooting. They show his many smiles, his smile is so beautiful and bright, lights up the whole city and makes you smile in your heart too. I love the part he patting the little cat, I just imagine him patting my cat, that would be a nice picture, ^.^
He comes out to sing a ballad song, I am embarrassed to say I don’t know the name of the song, but it is a beautiful love song, his voice is getting better and better. Someone help me, is it from the new Lucky Album? Again, I was so busy working watering my money tree before the trip I haven’t even listened to the whole album yet.
He did Kiss Kiss next, this is a light hearted one, kind of cute. But I prefer the breakdown, manly type more. He changed costume again for “Do you like it” and “Lucky”. He is very lively, has some fancy footstep and leg shakes. The whole place is on fire, everyone is on her feet (or his, I saw a couple guys). At one point, he bumped into a female dancer and almost tripped. It will not be good if falls on stage.
He talks briefly after “Lucky” and says he would sing “One more Time” from Playful kiss OST. He walks up to the raised platform while singing and goes under when the song is finished.
Fans start to chant his name loudly for encore, 2 minutes later, he and all the dancers come out on stage, they dance Kiss Kiss and Lucky, he runs around like a little kid, he asks fans to jump, OMG, I can feel the ground shaking. So many otherwise properly behaved jumping singing, the power of our star. At one point, Hyun Joong picks up a towel and Ms. Now slimed down Thunderous Thigh wipes his face using the towel, it’s sort of motherly or sisterly action, but draw daggers from my eyes (I am sure many other pairs). Hyun Joong has a goofy colorful hat (you can see in the last picture from MurderQ posted by Nanet), and he tosses it to the audience, 3 ladies are on the floor fighting for it. (PS: Nanet, even though I want it very much, but I don’t think I am brave enough to join the fight, plus, it is in public, and most important thing, it’s right under Hyun Joong’s eyes, I want to keep my “good” “proper” image)
The concert ends at 3:18pm.
I am so happy, it’s good to see him performing on stage again and also get the sense that he has made it to be a successful solo singer. I am sure the load he carries on his shoulders was heavy, but at least some can be lifted now.
I look around, everyone is smiling, and I am too.
Part II - Evening session
Part Two
After the concert ends, everyone gets up and leaves, I am very happy because one more to go even though the seat on the 2nd floor, kind of far from the stage. This is another strange thing in Japan, all the seats are the same price and you don’t get to pick, I don’t understand at all.
As the afternoon session people leave, the evening session fans have already arrived, so the hall becomes a very busy place. A line has already formed along the side, well, I will not join this time. There are some congratulatory flower stands in the hallway, people are taking pictures. Senders are: Universal records (Hyun Joong signed with them for Japan market), Look! S publisher (I think maybe HJ had interview with them); Music On! TV, DATV and two names I can’t understand; last one is from Bae Yong Joon. Many fans whip out their cell phones and take pictures, they look very excited as they see Yongsama in person.
I wander around a little, people everywhere, getting hungry so I get some snacks from a bakery store. I find a deck outside to sit down and take out my iPad to write fan account. After a while, a group of younger girls come with a big banner and put it on the floor, it’s full of messages to Hyun Joong. A cameraman shows up and starts filming the fans with the banner. His equipment is labeled Keyeast. I ask him (in Korean, so proud of myself) whether he is from Keyeast in Korea, is he filming for DVD, he says yes and asks me where I am from, I say US, he is like, “interview, interview”. I say my Korean is very limited, I have to say it in English, he says it’s fine. He turns on the camera, and I just start talking, I say I went to his Busan fan sign meeting and breakdown promotion, congratulate him for a successful concert, be happy, be healthy, blah, blah, can’t really remember much. After he finishes, we realize that I didn’t mention I am from US, so he turns on the camera again, I say I am from LA, etc. Later when I look at myself in the mirror, I look horrible, OMG, hope they don’t use this, I will be too embarrassed to see my puffy face on screen,
Soon it’s for the evening session entrance, I meet with another foreign fan, she has watched all sessions except Sunday afternoon one! We only enter 15 minutes before the concert starts, again, lightsticks and towels are not available. Our seats are on the second floor, we can see the whole stage, but it’s kind of far. She sat at 1st row in Hiroshima and Hyun Joong came down stage to shake hands with fans in the front. They are showing his CFs on the screen again.
At 6pm, everyone starts to chant his name, wuri star is on stage several minutes later. The performance is the same, Let it go, Breakdown, Please, Thank you. His outfit is different than afternoon session. Again he is drenched in sweats. Time for the talk session, the questions are slightly different than the afternoon session. He talks about his drinking ability, 5 bottles; marriage, he thinks for a while before answering. Even he still gives funny answers and makes fans laugh, I can’t help but to notice that he looks tired, sometimes he just stares blankly, he smiles a little less, his voice lower than earlier, poor boy. He is asked to do Kiss Kiss in slow motion, and he does it several times, making us all laugh out loud.
3 fans are picked by him to go on stage, a young boy (very handsome and cute) is picked. Hyun Joong immediately pulls him close, he really loves kids. The boys says he wants to be as tall as him, Hyun Joong says calcium, etc. Each fan is given a gift by Hyun joong and gets a hug too.
The talk session ends at 7:08pm, Hyun Joong leaves the stage to prepare for the second half of the performance. Smile MV is playing again on screen, I will never get tired watching his smiling face. He comes back on stage again and does Kiss Kiss, Do you like it and Lucky guy. He dances with full energy, no signs of fatigue, even his singing is still strong, no panting. (I remember a couple years ago when he was doing a De Ja vu performance with 501 boy, he was so exhausted and you could hear his panting clearly). But according to the fan who has attended many sessions, HJ was singing all live for the first few concerts, and now he sings most of the parts live but skips some when the background music is loud. I remember he said during one interview that he practiced Breakdown for a month in order to sing live. His efforts have paid off for sure.
He sings One More Time last and goes under the stage when he finishes. Everyone is screaming for him, he comes out with dancers for encore. He has his gray hoody sweater on his shoulder. They goof around on stage, fans throw stuff on stage, towels, stuff animals, Hyun Joong picks some up and puts them aside. At one point, takes down his sweater and gives it to a fan, everyone screams, we all want one. Later I saw picture that he gave it to a little boy, of course.
As soon as he leaves the stage, some fans start to rush out of the hall, I pick up my bag and follow them, they know where to see Hyun Joong off. We run at full speed, I am not kidding, soon, we arrive at the parking lot exit, there are already many fans on the side walk, several layers deep. A restaurant nearby is blasting Hyun Joong’s songs, smart way to get business tonight. Several minutes later, a gray van came, Hyun Joong is sitting on the ride side holding a camcorder to film the fans. Everyone screams and waves, the van moves very slowly due to the traffic, so it gives us a few more precious seconds to see his face, I take a short video too, but I don’t quite know how to zoom in, so he looks small in the video. I will try to post later when I figure out how.
I wish I could go to more concerts, Hyun Joong is like a drug, once you get addicted, you just want more and more. Hopefully next year I will be back for Budokon or Tokyo Dome concerts.
Part III - 2011-11-22 Haneda Airport
I was going to be a good tourist and make good use of my railroad pass, but seeing Hyun Joong on Sunday just makes me want to see him more. Since he will fly to Fukuoka today so I will have a chance to see him if I go to Haneda airport. My cousin’s husband even looked up the route for me, which one is the shortest. I still debated whether to go or not in the morning, I was tired since I stayed up late to write the fan account. But when I got up, I knew I would go, people guess he will leave after 12, that gives me plenty of time to get to the airport. Thank goodness Haneda is much closer than Narita, I made my way there without difficulties. The problem was that it has two terminals, which one, which one. I decided to go to the last stop and if I didn’t find anyone there then go to another one.
I arrived Terminal 2 a little after 11AM, I was sure there would be some Japanese fans waiting so I started to look around for groups. Soon I found a couple dozen women gathering together in one of the entrance, ah, must be them. And the good thing is that Hyun Joong hasn’t arrived yet. I asked one fan whether she knew which flight he would take, nobody knew, but somehow they know when and where to wait. So I let out a sigh of relief and took out my camera to take pictures, and, NOOOOOO, I forgot to put in the SD card. When I was write the fan account, I pulled out the SD card and inserted it to my laptop, this morning I was in a hurry trying to post and completely forgot to put it bag. Darn it, I want to @#$%^. My cousin called to check on my progress, I told her about the SD card, she said just buy one in the airport. She usually keeps extra in her wallet, she is very smart, but stupid me. I went to a couple store and nobody sells SD cards. I would have to go to different floors to check and I was afraid he would come in when I am gone. OMG, what to do, finally, I gave up the SD card and went back to the waiting area, at least I still have my iphone, it’s a new 4S and picture quality is not bad, 8mp.
I was looking at the screen for possible flight he would be one, 12:30, 13:15, etc, almost one per hour. Then I saw the automatic check in stations, you could buy tickets too. My curiosity got me and I went to one computer to see how much it costs for a ticket to Fukuoka, if I know which flight he would be on, theoretically I could purchase one and take the same flight. I started to press the touch screen, ok, one way ticket to Fukuoka is about 367,00 yen, about US$478, kind of expensive for a 2 hour flight. But it seems they have seats available on all flights today. After several minutes, I completed my research and turned around, got a shock of my life, all the fans were gone, I mean, no one was hanging around. I swear it was just a few minutes I was on the computer and how come this happened. Has Hyun Joong already arrived and left right behind my back, I want to @#$%. But I didn’t hear scream or cheers, it seemed impossible that the fans would watch him walking by silently. Maybe they went to another terminal, I made my way down stairs to take the monorail to go to Terminal One. But I stopped myself before got on the monorail, I needed to make sure they are not here. So I went back up to the departure lobby and scanned the crowd for any signs of groups. Finally I saw a group standing at one end of the departure hall, also there were uniformed staff standing around close by, I ran towards the end and saw the ladies were lining up in front of a particular gate, several airport security were standing by, one even holding some ropes. OMG, what a relief, I joined the line behind the rope, there were about 50-60 people now.
Sometime after 12, we saw a familiar face, Hyun Joong’s handsome bodyguard Mr. Jeon walked in with someone in uniform (airport security head). He is such a polite young man, he bowed nearly 90 degrees to that man when he left. He saw us and bowed to us, two Japanese fans gave me two bags of presents, he accepted graciously. He discussed with the security people and left after a few minutes. Looks like Hyun Joong would take the 13:15 flight. Everyone took out camera and camcorder to get ready, we waited and waited. Some people stopped to ask who were waiting. Finally, around 12:45, airport security started to get busy, a Keyeast staff came in with a camcorder, all the signs that wuri star is coming soon. Then it just happened, a group of men walked in, he was right in front of us, he walked slowly, like a leisure stroll, he was wearing a gray light weight long coat. He was looking straight most of the time, then he turned to his right, smiled and wave at us. He got in the security gate in a few seconds. From my angle, I could see him taking off his coat. I took a couple pictures, after he disappeared from our vision, I checked my phone, OMG, all I got was a blurred side view, looks like a Monet impression painting, today is just not my day. Oh, well, I am sure other fans take better pictures and videos, I think I should just give up doing this when I see him, how can I just had one lousy picture when he was so close in front of me, aigoo, me complete camera idiot
After several minutes, I jumped and realized I could buy the same flight ticket, I could do it, I would fly there with him and take the train back. I ran to one computer and started to press the buttons on the screen, tickets for this flight is still available, I entered my name, age, gender, then selected a seat, all the window seats were not available, Ok, I will take the aisle one then, now, it asked for my credit card, wait, let me go back to check the seat one more time, OK, set, I opened my wallet and took out my credit card, at that moment, the screen refreshed, the first flight available would be 14:00, they just closed the 13:15 fight. What is this, I can’t believe this. The computer refused to let me on the 13:15 flight. I gave up and exited the screen. So much for the day, I sighed.
This is the first time I saw him in an airport coming and going, I kind of wonder where are the rest, it seems they have some sort of standard operation procedure for going/coming to airports.

The Style Icon Awards took place at the CJ E&M Center and Cha Yae Ryun, Kim Min Jun and Park Young Rin served as MCs.
Kim Hyun Joong had earned the most votes for the People’s Choice award, and it was his third consecutive award that he had been honored with at the
particular event.
He stated, “I’m so glad to be able to receive this award three years in a row. If it weren’t for all my fans, I wouldn’t have been able to win this award. Thank you
to all my fans.”
The event is an annual event that awards the figures that have produced the newest paradigms of style for the past year.

On November 2nd, some pictures of Kim Hyun Joong were posted on an online community board titled, ‘Kim Hyun Joong with an edge even in sweats’.
In the pictures, Kim Hyun Joong is seen wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and a pair of darker grey sweat pants that appear to be flood length. He also
appears to be placing an earpiece. The outfit is obviously not a stage outfit and it is as casual as can be, but the natural yet stylish feel is undeniable. Kim

Singer + actor Kim Hyun Joong shows good manners are as natural as breathing for him.
A clip from the ’2011 K-POP Super concert’ held on October 28th was posted on an online community board recently. The clip contained the footage of the MCs of the event, Kim Hyun Joong and actress Ha Ji Won.
The two MCs had a short break during the rehearsal and a body guard approached Kim Hyun Joong to shade him from the sun with an umbrella. Kim Hyun Joong didn’t even hesitate for a second and pointed to Ha Ji Won to the body guard, so he would instead shade her from the sun.
This came so natural for Kim Hyun Joong that he afterwards drank some water from a bottle in a nonchalant manner.
After watching the clip the netizens commented, “Kim Hyun Joong never disappoints. His manners are awesome”, “He is so thoughtful”, “How can you not like someone like him?”, “He bows to even his junior peers, no surprise here really. Kim, who is currently on a nationwide fan meeting tour titled, Kim Hyun Joong-First Tour 2011 in Japan, said, “I’m all the more pleased to hear the news of topping the Oricon Chart while I’m on the tour in several cities to meet fans. I’ll make an effort to put on the best performance while remembering the fans who always give me strength.”
With the release of two mini solo albums this year, Kim solidified his status as a hallyu star in Japan, and further proved his popularity by selling out tickets to the national tour immediately after sales began in September. Reportedly, those same tickets are being resold for 15 times more than the original price.
Having started his tour in Osaka on November 9, Kim completed fan meetings in Sapporo, Sendai, and Hiroshima before moving on to Yokohama, Nagoya, Tokyo, and Fukuoka.

Ahead of his anticipated eight-city Japanese fan meeting tour, Kim Hyun Joong's new mini-album "Lucky" debuted at #1 on the Oricon import albums chart

Hallyu superstar Kim Hyun Joong made a promise to his Filipino fans when he swung by Manila for a promotional tour last August. During his press conference at the EDSA Shangri-La hotel, he promised to release an October follow-up to his hit solo debut mini-album, "Breakdown." As far as Henecians, (as his fans are known) are concerned, "Hyunjoongie" never breaks a promise, and look! It's true!
KeyEast Entertainment, Hyun Joong's management, has released the album jacket photo for "Lucky," his second mini-album. The retro-themed album cover features a vintage-styled image of Hyun Joong in a purple and red polo underneath a sports blazer, blue slacks, and three rings on his left hand, which apparently is brushing his ear. In keeping with the "lucky" theme, behind him are faded images of what appear to be lottery cards; in front of him are two cards, one of which features his mascot, U:ZOOSIN, beside the word "Jackpot."
KeyEast has also released the track list of "Lucky." Produced in collaboration with Day Break and Common Ground, the title track and first single is an energetic, guitar-driven uptempo track featuring a brass section - a brass section!! - and plenty of bravado. The mini-album "Lucky" also features the frantic album opener "Do You Like That," the heart-touching ballad "I'm Your Man," and the swoon-inducing love song "U."
Looks like Kim Hyun Joong is really making do with his promises. I distinctly remember him saying that he will try to include a Manila stop to his Asian-wide tour. Given the incredible reception he had the the "Hi-Five Touch" event in Trinoma, will this be the next promise he keeps? Stay tuned.

My initial take on Kim Hyun Joong’s second mini album Lucky is he has done it in a playful mood. The concept of which I have no doubt he had a huge part,tailler la part du Lion, as the French would say it. Now with its execution and what he has released so far is that – it looks like it is a caricature of what gambling is all about.
Gambling has been resorted to by humankind from the earliest time. The trial and error employed to get on with life is gambling. Everything taken with a risk ,big and small is gambling. And the stakes are what we put up for grabs. The best gambler they say, sizes up the situation , wary of opponents’ moves , know when to stop ,know when to walk away or even when to run. Wish we can do our lives using that formula?
But gambling lost its natural character the way culture has bestowed on it when it was institutionalized, made into an industry and rules were imposed on it. Gambling was either legalized or made illegal. Then it was even turned into a social disease and its avid practitioners declared psychologically unfit.
Now here comes Kim Hyun Joong . How does he look at the whole thing? Mon pied! It is a brilliant concept! And he played.
You can see how he depicted it in his facial expressions -he is such a tease . He turns his face and swings his body,only Hyun Joong can do oh so sexily. He was throwing away playing cards , paper bills, coins all with Uzoosin in them. Yes,stereotypical but with a twist. Uzoosin in currency? Who would think he could be there?
His mug shot’s the best, I died laughing when I saw it. The police would have turned in their badges if they ever encountered one like him. Come to think of it,why do they make people having their mug shots look miserable? They could be posing nonchalance and disarming like Hyun Joong. He is the epitome of cool.
If his makeup looked heavy on the eyes,it is a caricature of a gambler’s steely eyes forever wary of opponents’ moves. If he looked sleek with his velvet suits and pomaded hair, it is only a hyperbole of how gamblers are supposed to dress.
And after all the wealth and fame vanished, he goes back to where it all begun-with nothing.Is there lesson learned here? Maybe.
He has humored gambling in a good way. In a fun way with a tinge of realism. Of course, it wasn’t meant for us to be distracted away from his song and dance. We can’t be !No way! The tune is catchy,the lyrics’ awesome,the dance moves steeped in rhythmic movement.
Kim Hyun Joong has transformed himself in Lucky.
Yes, Kim Hyun Joong has done it masterfully again !

Kim Hyun Joong totally rocked the Springs Cocoon Shenzhen Bay Stadium yesterday night in the “Very Perfect” 2011 Shenzhen Concert. The main features of the programme were supposed to be the 4 heavy-weights female artistes of the Chinese music industry…but…Kim Hyun Joong proved he was the KING of the night.
Someone remarked that Chinese Sina Weibo was also in a frenzy yesterday, with many non-fans getting a speed-up lesson on who this mysterious blondie is. She said:

According to the company on September 20, Seohyun will now join Kim Hyun Joong, Won Bin, and Park Min Young who have already been the leading models for almost a year for the company.
