Some Iligan residents complain of insufficient aid

MANILA, Philippines – A group of evacuees in Iligan City complained of not getting the same contents in their relief goods.
They claimed that the aid is not enough.
"Dapat pantay-pantay. Hindi ‘yung ganito, nag-aaway nalang," said Susana Mascayo, one of the evacuees.
But the tension later subsided when they learned that more help is on the way.
Another evacuee, Milagros Garcia, skipped lunch as she lined up for two hours just to get relief goods at the Baldo P. Laya Elementary School.
Garcia said she didn't mind, recounting how she saved her 3 children as flashfloods swept away their home.
"Marami, maririnig lahat ng iyak ng tao, humihingi ng tulong pero hindi mo magawa kahit sarili mo man mahihirapan ka,” she said.
She became teary-eyed upon seeing Kapamilya stars arriving to distribute relief goods.
Milagros believes that her Christmas is now complete now that her family survived the killer storm and that she has finally met actor John Lloyd Cruz.
Help from UN
The United Nation's World Food Programme (WFP) also came in to hand out more relief goods.
The WFP said programs that will help flood-ravaged victims rebuild their lives should start as soon as possible.
"We use food-for-work and cash-for-work and that can immediately get people back on their feet,” said Stephen Anderson, country director of WFP.
Family Access cards
Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman, meanwhile, said they have started listing the families affected by Sendong.
Soliman said the list will determine who will be given Family Access cards, which will serve as basis in distributing relief goods to victims.
“The listing of outside the evacuation center has begun, I hope, by yesterday afternoon, and this is important because we will be giving relief packs starting tomorrow with noche buena favors. So we want to make sure that everybody gets a pack by tomorrow or Saturday. We just want to make sure that our listing is complete and that we are able to serve everyone and no one is left behind,” said Soliman.
Government will also give shelter assistance to victims whose houses were damaged by the storm.
Meantime, police warn residents in Iligan and Cagayan de Oro City against living in areas considered as danger zones.

Paliwanag ni Stephen Anderson, "We use food for work and cash for work, and that can immediately get people back on their feet. "
“This is important because we will be giving relief packs starting tomorrow, with a Noche Buena flavor. So, we want to make sure that everybody gets a pack,” aniya.
