Actually, we could. Military strategy wise if you hold back your enemy long enough for your allies to gain control of the war then you contributed to the defeat of your enemy. This means, we dont have to win battles we just have to keep their forces in the Philippines so that our allies will have less to deal with.

It's always nice to imagine that one is in a video game with control of weapons and vehicles and not at the receiving end of such.

    Armageddon Speculation Scenario:

If the worst comes, expect ASEAN countries spearheaded by Vietnam and the Philippines to unite and maintain a theater of battle within the Spratlys while Taiwan uses it's Patriot missile batteries to defend itself from any hostile missile barrage and keep China occupied as North Korea re-engages South Korea. The US and Japan will have to support SoKor while Russia and China reinforces NoKor and probably take it to the next level by challenging US border through Alaska. Canada will be forced to join and contain the situation or just move to UK's turf of operations if the US can handle it alone.

And by the way, I just read in a newspaper today that Vietnam and the Philippines are talking about joint patrols and military drills in the Spratlys (which Chinese officials condemn as a provocation of their sovereignty) to protect their respective claimed islands. And given this existing information, a scenario of our participation in a WW3 may not be far-fetched and it could start right there. We could actually get schooled early with their new Aircraft carrier loaded with stealth technology J-20's doing the first strike before we can upgrade our military. Our latest naval acquisition might just be one floating wreck when it does happen. The second might escape since it's not yet on it's way here.

Or the thought that we could be the first to taste China or NoKor's ballistic missile shows resolve to put us out of the chess board before the Americans can establish regional balance in SEA and force Taiwan to go on high alert as it braces for the People's Liberation Army to stamp their infantry class. Vietnam on the other hand will have their hands full as the Chinese armored battalions roll over their territory and probably seek US support before the Spratlys get spoiled and nobody can live in it for the next 50 years. Palawan would fall as AFP WestCom braces for jungle and possibly, biological warfare. Protected wildlife and marine species are the first to go.

I can see India keeping itself busy with Pakistan and most likely engage in border wars again with China if they do side with the US. But they value Iran's oil and they might change sides or go neutral just to keep their country intact. Their nuclear advantage is not to be taken for granted but their political silence could be their downfall as well.

Meanwhile down South America, Argentina might re-ignite the Falkland wars as the UK watches it's borders up north alongside EU. Venezuela might just be grinning and taking it's time as it plans to join the fray.

Back in Europe, EU prepares it's missile shield and organizes an expeditionary force to protect EU affiliates that include Georgia and the caucuses (did I spell it right?) to keep the oil pipeline intact. The other former Soviet countries might just join Russia and keep EU from creeping in closer to central Asia and keep the US from slicing through the Middle East. But not without stiff resistance from a rejuvenated Taliban and Al Qaeda infested countries.

Middle East will be in turmoil as Israel prepares bombing sorties against Iran and protecting it's territory from different sides through it's Iron Dome. Most likely Syria will re-enter, Egypt will be conflicted within but will immediately help out through other means necessary to help Hezbollah by creating a series of tunnels again.

Africa might just be the continent that will try to stay away from it all. That is if the Islamic militants can't keep it up since the black market will be hard-pressed to sell more illegal weapons as shipping is virtually halted, inspected, or sunk for suspicion of carrying illegal shipments by the US-EU navies.

In the end, most countries will be thrown back to the Stone Age, crops withered as nuclear fallout contaminate vegetation and cities will be leveled as carpet bombing becomes reality.

President Noynoy might just end up where President Marcos exiled himself while the common Filipino tries to move out of NCR and move away from inevitable targets for destruction like air bases, regional camps, and navy ports. Guerrilla warfare will be our only course as the AFP is depleted and pulverized.

OFW's in conflicted areas will have no choice but hold it out or try to survive in any way that they can as the DFA is dismantled. The US will try to evacuate survivors back to Australia or Hawai with President Noynoy leading the pack of refugees. Death would seem to be the easy way out than slowly withering from starvation, war, or disease. We won't even have time to play Call of Duty just to imagine war when the reality of surviving the real deal means having to sell everything that you owned for a price of a decent meal and some shelter.

But for as long as we hold on to the thought that we will not repeat the same mistakes that our ancestors did before us, humanity might survive a horrible decision to kill each other before it's too late for regrets.

I'm even regretting this post but I think everybody deserves a point of view that desires peace rather than war by reminding them of the fatal consequences. May God help us if legacies are lost, generations wiped to a mere minority or extinct, progress becomes regress, and the battle-scarred human altered forever.

Speaking of Armageddon, if the bible is to be believed the destroyer of man will come from the North. The north of Israel. You'll bee surprised what country is due north of Israel. Far north of it.

actually, its always nice to imagine controlling a war machine while you massacre hordes of faceless and nameless enemies and not the one being massacred.
