So many whiners everywhere...damn! What is the added expense for people who go to public school? Nothing. Instead of living within ones means, focusing on what is important (education for your children) everyone whines about the added cost? If everyone stopped throwing money away at lazy relatives, fiestas, birthday parties, drinking sessions, cellphones and unnecessary gadgets there will be enough money for another 5 years of education!

k+12 is the norm worldwide. We need to follow this norm to be accepted as being competent. Maybe if we were competent with a focus on education and learning rather than splurging on vices we wont be a nation of call center agents, maids and caregivers. (Nothing wrong with these professions but if this is the most we can aim for, something is seriously wrong)

Stop whining, embrace learning and education and stop the stupidity, the country will prosper.

We are all aware of the financial burden this will impose on the national budget. However, I believe it's worth it for all the reasons already laid out. Besides, I think no one's really contesting the benefits. The main problems seem to be just (a) the lack of resources and (b) the current overall quality of education, both of which are intertwined.

However, I think we don't have to wait for the current system to be perfected before we can augment it to improve it. Our elections have been fraught with cheating, and only a fool would think it would go away soon. Imperfect system. But I think it was still a good idea to go ahead with automation, instead of waiting for manual elections to be perfected and for all its kinks to be fixed.

Similarly, doing things linearly for the K12 system - raise standards of education to high levels, and then (only then) add the needed two years - is inefficient. I'm all for a progressive implementation of the needed measures.

From what I know, the 12-year requirement was proposed around 80 years ago, but because of lack of resources, was never implemented. Recently, APEC members met and came up with shared standards, which includes a 12-year pre-tertiary requirement. PH was given some leeway to catch up with everyone else: the deadline is 2020. That means by that time the country should have produced its first batch of graduates who studied under such a program. Otherwise, PH can no longer be part of the APEC economic regime.

Because of lack of resources, the country has more problems, including lack of teachers, books, desks, etc. In general, this is the result of eight decades of accumulated problems, with the assumption that one problem can't be solved because we need to solve others first, leading to the current crisis.

Thus, it's up to citizens to decide what to do. If they are willing to accept the consequences of not following APEC (and other requirements, including Bologna, etc.), then the government can delay.

Also, it will be difficult to raise standards with what is essentially a 12-year program crammed into ten years.

bout damn time. competence is everything in the international setting. however, this doesn't sit well with the student militants.. after all the education budget got reduced.

Good News! Unless kuryente lang to from ABS,

the K-12 program will offer tracts for Advanced Preparatory Subjects for college, to those high school students who would continue to college, and more importantly, to those who wont be able to go to college, the Vocational-Technical Tract with diploma will be offered.

I am so in favor of this. Such a wonderful development. Finally, an end to the broken dreams of millions of high school students after toiling for 10 years would just face a dead end in their student life, cos they cant afford to go to college.

This is more chance for those high school students to achieve and become more, rather than just ending up as household helpers, or street sweepers, etc.

    Definitely a great news.

I was disagreeable before too, when it was still not clear if there will be an option for Vocational-Technical.

Some of the private schools already have Grade 7, magdadagdag na lang ng 5th year.

As to the public, 10 lang ang Basic ed nila, the 2 years to be added will turn the highschool into a highschool-vocational in one.

The benefit to the millions of students outweigh the inconvenience and disadvantage in this case.

Ive witnessed high school students cry before their parents pleading to send them to college, but the parents could not cos of financial strain, it was so heartbreaking.

pero this a big chance for those students to have a better life and future.

    So Im really so excited!

I heard over the news(bandila), it will be implemented on 2016. Kapag nakababa na si Noynoy sa pwesto? Very convenient on Aquino administration...madali kasing dumaldal kesa mag-implement.

does anyone here knows the curriculum of grade 7 next year? or may narelease na bang curriculum for the additional 2 senior high years? thank you.

    meron din palang Arts/Music/Sports track,

yung Sports, I dont think its necessary, since nagiging scholar pa nga sila ng mga colleges and universities, so nakakatapos pa sila.

pero yung arts and music, Im approved of this too. para naman yung mga nagiging back up dancers or singers, kahit papano may tinapos naman, and pwede din silang magka diploma.

@BeerhandBop, yeah I remember. And Im glad it will finally come true.

dami dami nagspespeculate and panay "give this a chance" ek-ek.

sige nga.. how many of you guys have kids who are going to school?!? ilan ang pinapaaral nyo?

quality education ang pinaguusapan dito, which does not necessarily mean that quantity of time would cover it.

if the PGMA scholars are to be a measuring stick of what "vocational schooling" is, we're in big trouble.

the 2 Senior Years, would provide awesome tracts for different students, depending on their needs and interests,

Advanced Studies, would help students who want to go to college, to test their interests, this will also provide good foundations for their knowledge in their preferred course,

the Arts,Music and Sports tract will help students at least get a diploma for their preferred interests, kahit papano, para naman hindi minamaliit ang mga performers at athletes.

those who have no talent nor athletic skill, as well those who could not afford to go to college, they'd be awarded a technical-vocational diploma, to enable them to seek jobs and be treated fairly cos they would know their rights, para maging skilled worker naman ang Pinoy at ma uplift tayo sa image ng pagiging source of international maids or mga nagiging unemployed na lang dahil walang skill.

    ayaw nyo ba nun?

This is the mentality which keeps many Filipinos dumb. That education is magastos that it has to be ended as soon as possible. People would rather spend their money on cameras and cellphones than on books and education. People would rather burn their time watching TV and going on Facebook and Twitter than to spend their time reading.

If you don't want to spend on education, wag na lang mag-aral di ba?
