yes, and simon was very young then. he was parang the mba discovery player of the year. sya ang pumalit kay eugene quilban at donbel belano (the only player who owned a quadruple double) na iniwan sa ere ang davao in favor of playing in the pba.

mente really played for iloilo megavoltz, a back-up at the 2 spot of vince hizon. pero ilang beses ko lang yata napanood si hizon sa buong pagsubaybay ko sa mba kaya starting five din si mente kadalasan. at mba pa lang, fan favorite na yan.

tingin ko maski nung nag-umpisa nang malagas ang teams sa mba, nag-stick pa din sya sa liga e. mababa ang level ng competition na nakasanayan nya at nung pumasok sya sa pba, pa-downhill na laro nya. so sayang ang prime years.

maganda kasi ang training ground ni Danny I pagdating sa PBA & ang lalakas ng nakabangga na na bigman that cause him to gain experience.

unlike Adducul, he dominate in MBA kaya sa isip niya malakas na siya.

pero pagdating niya sa PBA daig pa niya si EJ Fiehl maglaro, ayun di na siya nakarecover..

pero para saken mas gusto kong na retain yung MBA then nawala na ang PBA. nakakawalang gana na manood ng PBA ngayon. wala ng thrill.

MBA = Great, great concept .... poor execution on the part of the organizers & team franchises.

Vince Hizon signing a contract for P700,000++ a month .... that will bury your franchise really quick.

poor marketing and management skills of the MBA..
if they only know back then how to use the popularity of the players and the league back then..

i believe they come to the point wherein PBA is really threatened by them.

I'd say poor budget management, poor screening of franchises and loose player recruitment rules, did the MBA in.

** I recall ABS-CBN even subsidizing the salary of a few of the marquee players (e.g. Adducul), which is never a good idea for any professional league.

** Most of franchises they selected had shaky finances since the start (e.g. Mondragon of Pamapanga Dragons, Iloilo Megavoltz, etc).

** PARITY ...... Like the PBA today, the MBA then had elite teams and dead-beat teams.

The MBA had a very relaxed set of rules when recruting local & Fil-Am players.

The elite teams always got the best players, hence was always in contention .... poor teams, just cant win big.

The imbalance was extremely obvious ..... the PBA should learn lessons from the dead.


OT: Well at least, there was no pimp teams in the MBA then ... like Pimp Daddy Bert Lina has been doing for a long time in the PBA.

the one rule of the MBA that adopted the PBA (and possibly the FIBA) is the 8-seconds crossing the mid-line. (remember the MBA only have 23 seconds on the shot clock?)
